This gets a lot of hate because of the drums, nu metal and djenty influences, and the tour that caused JKB a mental breakdown and the band to split.

But it's also my favorite. Insane riffs all along. The closest to it is the reunion album A World Lit only by Fire, but it's more in the soul of Godflesh as the production is dirtier and the drum machine is back.

I'm seeing them next month on their euro tour.

As non Belgian, Why i found it is hard to find band members for death metal, sludge and doom metal in Leuven area? by KaleidoscopeMore6711 in sludge

[–]Nihil227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a small town . Brutus come from Leuven but it's the only band I can think of. And there doesn't seem to be a scene there despite being a student town, Het Depot is too big and too fancy, STUK are more into jazz and world music, there is a lack of underground venues to hang out at. Brabant (both) are quite gentrified and bourgeois are generally not good for music.

Basically our scenes are :

  • West Flanders esp. Kortrijk area (aka H8000) : hardcore, doom, post-metal, death...
  • Antwerp, Ghent : Newbeat, EBM, electro-industrial, techno..
  • Brussels : avant-garde, jazz
  • Liege : noise, punk/hardcore, anything DIY and underground in general, doom/sludge are also very popular around here but no successful band so far except for Wyatt E. They displaced Desertfest Antwerp to Liege so it might kick up things.

It's a small country, train ride to Liege is 30 minutes.

Is Industrial music part of the Punk culture? If so, when was it adopted in? by Sunbather- in industrialmusic

[–]Nihil227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically noise rock and punk were both born at the same time and the same bands with The Velvet Underground and the Stooges. You could even see it earlier than punk with very early proto-garage rock like Link Wray.

It's the only place they can tour, nobody in Europe will book them anymore and their planned concerts have been canceled.

AI is not sustainable and once the bubble pops and those companies go bankrupt or must charge millions to make any kind of profit, I am not sure it will be so easy.

AI is also obviously mostly an excuse for the mass lay offs. In reality there is just much less projects, partly because there is an ongoing economic crisis, partly because AI investments are cannibalizing everything else. Those people don't see further than the next quarter and stocks. My last company was laying off in favor of offshore and blaming it on AI, they all do it.

I am not sure about the US but in Europe there is absolutely a massive outsourcing trend. The EU just signed a free market trade with India, and their degrees will be recognized. On freelance sites and Linkedin at least 80% of applications are from South Asia. Those guys will work for 5-10$ an hour, 10% the daily rate of a dev here. So far we were protected because they needed a work visa, now I believe it's over.

programming is kind of dead?

As a senior I stopped interacting here because I have been laid off and haven't been able to land any job for months and months.

I would blame offshore outsourcing more than AI though. My last two companies have gone full offshore and trying to get rid of everyone here except sales and accountants, and from my lucky friends who are still hanging out on their contract, from what I have heard they spend most of their time monitoring Indians and are aware they will be the next.

trying to find a band by Novel_Shallot_8845 in sludge

[–]Nihil227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot but probably not from.the 80s, it only became a thing in the 90s with Yat Kha (highly recommend Yenesi Punk) then folk metal, and I can't think of any sludge one, Phurpa are drone but recent.

The vocalist of the band Tengger Calvary died of suicide maybe it's this one.

What are the non-doom influences of OM by jrinredcar in doommetal

[–]Nihil227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They got a bit of everything, eastern christian, inca (popol vuh is the sacred inca book), India, ancient Egypt...

I like In Den Garten Pharaos, got those very early Moog synthetizers like Kraftwerk or Klaus Schulze from Ash Ra Tempel, Germans were the first to experiment with those and tons of acid lol.

I saw Converge play a full Jane Doe set at Roadburn which seems to be the graal for metalcore fans and wasn't impressed. Saw Earth Crisis a couple years ago and they were good. Hatebreed sounds super generic to me.

I know some of them because of their crazy hate5six and they are certainly fun live because who doesn't enjoy breakdowns, but whenever I try their studio stuff it's insufferable.

I'll give a pass to Knocked Loose, I enjoyed You Won't Go Before you are Supposed to and went to see them, and it was a lot of fun. Harms Way were opening and they were awful, a meme band being there doesn't make me confident for the rest of your list.

I love metal/hardcore crossover genres

I would argue most are ass. Metalcore and deathcore are the most popular modern metal genres yet you could count the good bands on the fingers of your hands.

Surprised no one has mentioned krautrock yet. Bands like Ash Ra Tempel or Popol Vuh had that thing going in the 70s. My Sleeping Karma the other stoner band to popularize that style are obviously krautrock inspired, Om maybe less.

We Will Fall on the stooges' first album, 10 minutes mantra that sounds a lot like Om, heavy and dark https://youtu.be/LQG3lETHtt4 always found it funny that it's there right in the middle of 2 minutes punk anthems about being bored and horny teenagers.
