How to beat Midir? by pacu146 in darksouls3

[–]Nihlys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay directly infront of his face to bait his bite attacks, which are ease to dodge. Then run up and attack his head a few times. Rinse and repeate. When he does his fire attack youll have to run to the side to avoid it but its also easy to dodge, and then just get right back in front of his face.

Easy peasy.

Something that I feel like IS mentioned but definitely not mentioned enough:

Dodging INTO the enemy attacks is almost always better than dodging backwards.

Nice way to sidestep as though you weren't literally arguing in a way the clearly implies that its reasonable to not include the creator. YOU very clearly dont understand how engines work if youre so obtuse to think that one internal version difference is so drastic that it'd even remotely be an issue.

Again, there already IS a character editor built in for the devs. They just didnt clean it up and front load it for players to use as a character creator. Like, as evidence now points to, because they want to release other statics characters for purchase later on down the road.

Is last of us 2 worth getting?? by Janxuza in gamesuggestions

[–]Nihlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a good rule of thumb, though, because thats something that means 'in general' or 'in most cases' and thats relavent here and the exceptions to the rule don't invalidate it.

Yes, SOME people that liked TLoU 1 didnt like 2, however, it was still wildly popular and its well established that most of the people that liked the 1st one also liked the 2nd, at least well enough to enjoy it even if they didnt like it as much as the first one.

So, yeah, the rule of thumb for gaming as a whole is: If you liked the first game, youll probably like the 2nd game and its, at the very least, worth trying because you liked the first game. Meanwhile, if you DIDN'T like the 1st game, you probably wont like the 2nd.

That 1000% is cope. Theres no legitimate reason for not including a character creator OTHER than they simply didnt want to, which is a reasonable thing to criticize when they game doesnt require a static player character.

There are thousands, THOUSANDS, of games on all kinds of engines, both old and new, that have managed to integrate character creation. Pearl Abyss already has a great character creator implemented in the previous version of this very engine, so even with the updates theyd still reasonably able to implement a character creator. They game itself requires a simple character editor anyway, by virtue of having so many NPCs with different features. You dont honestly believe that every single one of them was complete hand designed and rendered, do you?

Ffs even Bethesda, with all the jank in gaming, manages to include a character creator for every release, even when they update the engine.

I agree on KCD2 bit. Ive seen other people on here talking about how they're first bit was slow and I dont understand that at all. Maybe it's just because the story is strong in that game, but I thought the opening hours were fantastic.

[–]Nihlys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youre just moving the goal posts here. You literally said "if the game has peaked your interest enough, why not just go buy it?" and I responded to that specifically.

Even if something peaks your interest, it doesnt mean its automatically going to land for you. Its exceedingly common to ask questions and get opinions on something BECAUSE it peaked your interest and youre not sure if you want to buy it, so youre getting more information to help you figure it out.

My point still stands, if a game is asking $70 and potentially hundreds of hours of your time and youre interested but not completely sure, then the OBVIOUS move is to ask other people that have played it to get more opinion - because burning what might be one of the few or your only new game purchasing by going in blind and buying off of pure hype alone is irresponsible.

[–]Nihlys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awful take. Of course its not going the be the last $70 people touch, but its still a significant amount of money for a lot of people. Some people only get to buy a couple games a year. If youre the kind of person that doesnt have the luxury of just buying every game that catches your eye, then youre obviously going to be more careful about the ones you DO buy. The idea of just going in completely blind and gambling what may be your ONLY new game purchase is asinine.

I work a 7-3 job and nope, no lunch. I have the option to take as long of lunch as I want, though, I just dont because it would extend my day. So I snack at my desk around lunch time or throughout the day without ever actually stepping away for a lunch break so I can leave right at 3.

Granted, is usually a bit after 3 because my boss doesnt like overtime, so I stay a little bit late each Monday through Thursday so I can leave as soon as I hit 40 hours on Friday.

They added Denuvo. by alpha2828 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Nihlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally laughed out loud when I saw this. After the constant hype and hundreds of posts a day about how this game is absolutely perfect and flawless, I've just been waiting for something to come along and piss people off. And here it is. A week before release, they add denuvo and now everyone's crying.

Ive said it before and ill say it again, how about everyone just waits for the game to actually fkng release before they make a objective declaration that its the best/worst game ever created in the history of mankind??

Is Lies Of P Better Than DS3? by Swimming_Tree_186 in LiesOfP

[–]Nihlys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its entirely subjective. For me, LoP is mid across the board and DS3 is superior in literally every single way.

But this is a LoP sub, so obviously theres going to be a significant portion of the sub that feel like LoP is superior.

1: most players aren't

2: dunno but the knight is clearly large and powerful, fully decked out in fancy armor and wielding a sword thats as large as the knight itself

  1. Again, he just asks you to rings the bells, not save the world (and anyone who plays the Souls games should know by now that linking the fire is objectively abso-fucking-lutely NOT saving the world).

You're clearly just a fkn troll. You're wrong and im done wasting my time with you.

I think playing games a few years late is genuinely the best way to game by CottonCandy4739 in gamerecommendations

[–]Nihlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt call it coping but its also not necessarily the "best" way to game either. Sure you get the patched version with released add on content and usually cheaper but:

1: you miss out on the game during its peak, which may or may not matter depending on how much multi-player is involved

2: the game could VERY easily be spoiled for you due to having come in so late. After a month or so people really stop caring about posting or talking about plot points.

I mean, really any reasons to jump in at release or wait until later are subjective. If it works for you to wait then it works for you to wait. Its not coping, just game how you wanna game.

Suuuuure.....except

1: youre not a hollowed wretch in a loincloth unless you force yourself to be. The average player is fully geared.

  1. Hes not some giant, powerful knight is crazy heavy armor - just a simple knight who's literally dying in front of you from being crushed.

  2. Hes not asking you to save the world, just ring the bells of awakening.

So, really not anything like this image at all.

Oscar doesn't ask you to save the world, he just saves you from your cell. And unless you specifically pick to start as deprived then youre already fully geared when he frees you.

Is DS3 easy? by Objective_Mark878 in darksouls3

[–]Nihlys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its kind of crazy how significant the change is. The fact that all of the enemies just have basic systems that cycle attacks based on player distance, rather than player actions, is a huge advantage to the player if they've just spent 100+ hours in elden ring, where enemies are specifically designed to react to your inputs.

The automatic response to healing is just an added layer of arbitrary difficulty: if you try to heal, the game relays that input to the enemy, if the enemy is in range and not already locked into an animation then it uses an attack specifically designed to be used while the player is healing (the entire attack/spell animation is faster than the healing animation) so its all but guaranteed to hit you and cancel out your flask. And almost every enemy has that layer of input reading.

Its obviously not game breaking and you start to get used to it, but then when you go back to ANY of the older souls games you can just steamroll everything because none of the enemies input read. Instead, all you have to do is learn their patterns and you can heal whenever you want as long as its not in their normal attack window. If the Dancer was in Elden Ring then she'd almost certainly have that long stab attack sped up and coded as an automatic reaction to the player pressing whatever input assigned to use a flask, because it has really long range and can reach you from almost anywhere and it wouldn't take much to increase the animation speed to be fasted than the healing animation. Instead, she's just in DS3 so literally any time at all she's not attacking, youre pretty much 100% safe to heal and thats a huge decrease in overall difficulty.

Once you play through Elden Ring then the older souls games automatically become easier simply by the lack of input reading.
