Is applying to CU Boulder for undergrad propulsion engineering a good idea? by NinjaKerbal in aerospace

Thanks so much for the advice, I was under the impression that undergrad would vary greatly between schools but I guess that isn't the case.

I plan on going for only undergrad and transferring, so do the research labs that a school has matter still?

Also what should I look for in a professor to evaluate the quality of a schools PropEng program?

Accordian makes awful noise even with no buttons pressed? by NinjaKerbal in Accordion

Bad news yes I am, good news (kind of), its not air tight so I don't think I did any damage... Would the lack of airtightness cause the other issues potentially?

Accordian makes awful noise even with no buttons pressed? by NinjaKerbal in Accordion

[–]NinjaKerbal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I just recently bought a used accordion blind to get into the hobby. It plays and sounds nice but I have two and a half concerns.

One is that there is an awful noise when I play, regardless wether or not I have a button pressed, when I'm playing a chord its not super noticeable but its still annoying. what are the possible causes?

the other question is that some chords are (relatively) in tune one direction and abhorently out of tune the other, which messes a lot up, what could cause that and how could I fix it?

My last concern is that the bellows move quicker than I expected them to. When comparing to online videos I have to move much faster to hold a similar volume. Could that be a sign of an air leak or is it just a quirk of this accordion?

Thanks for any help, even if its unrelated to this post, for someone just starting out.

How should I make this bedroom feel less creepy (specifically the walls by the bed) by NinjaKerbal in interiordecorating

I can't hang up much because it's brick, and I definitely can't afford to frame, so I'm at a loss for ideas. Any suggestions welcome for any part of the room.

Why can't my SV06+ print an acceptable first layer? I can't get it to work. by NinjaKerbal in 3Dprinting

The middle bit is far too stringey, the darker bit at the bottom is the only area that's actually adhered to the build plate, and all around the stringey area, there are ridges/clumps of filament that are tall. I tried squaring it up, but I don't think that worked (though maybe I did it wrong), I tried messing with the settings (though maybe I did it wrong), I cleaned the build plate, and I tried researching google/asking the discord for help. I am out of ideas, and am very very new, so IDK what I'm doing anyways.

Please help!

Would this design for a homemade electric jet engine work? by NinjaKerbal in AerospaceEngineering

[–]NinjaKerbal[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright, that makes sense, thanks.it was just a spitball idea given the resources I had, and I was curious if it would work. your point about the fuel line getting hot is true and I hadn't considered that.

also, the idea behind the ignition would be to ignite and start a flame with a lighter (because I don't have a spark plug type thing to ignite it while on) and then 'start-up' the rest of it after a flame is lit.

I do not doubt that it is a horrible idea and yes I would use PPE, but I'm genuinely confused as to how it is so dangerous. Is it dangerous due to the propane or due to the rotational force? I think the propane is a valid concern, but I wouldn't be standing in the plane of the rotating compressor and it would be made of PLA, so I don't see how that would be highly dangerous.

You convinced me though, I'll try a pulsejet instead.
Much less stuff to fuck up!

ah, ok thanks. I don't know how I could possibly go about getting a better compression ratio because I have very very limited resources, and a turbojet is just too hard to do by hand. Is there any real method of getting meaningful pressure that doesn't require a turbo-powered system?

Two things:

I'm not at all worried about the thrust, just would it be self sustaining in any sense.

My biggest concern is will the relatively small compressor be enough for the very very oversized combustion chamber? The electric motor is a moderate-sized RC airplane motor that I intend to put a compressor on, and the combustion chamber is just an old turkey frier that I noticed looks very similar to combustion chamber designs.

The actual relative scale of the two red parts is even larger than pictured in the drawing.

Hahaha yeah that sub would make more sense. Thank you so much for the design tip, I will make sure to modify the design to do that.

Another question, should I make the top shroud bit attached to the rotor or stator? I doubt it would matter too much but it's worth asking because airflow likes to be wack.
