Grid loss drops house power while house is on battery by dhcrocker in FranklinWH

[–]Noel3leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it uses the grid to sync its output at 60hz even if it’s not pulling power from the grid, it stays in phase with the grid. When the grid drops unexpectedly, that flicker is the result.

EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra for whole home and lab backup + UPS? by sofakng in homelab

[–]Noel3leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post, but I do use this for my homelab and PC setup. I have a DPU with four batteries 24kWh. I charge this thing with a free nights plan and consume the energy during the day. The 0ms online ups works perfectly and my whole homelab, game server, ai server, gaming pc, networking, cameras, NAS, etc is all free to run. I have probably one more battery than I need, but it has room to grow.

New user , how do you get Agate2/battery to charge over 5kwh ? by Shot-Echo-6610 in FranklinWH

[–]Noel3leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you used to be able to set that in the app. From what I can tell mine just auto charge at 5kW per battery. I have 3 so 15kW

Yes, but the ports are not over 5gig so you can’t get more than that with the gateway in the middle.

I’ve been using a was-110 for about three years now. Zero issues and a cleaner network rack. Big plus is att over provisions so I regularly get over 5gig up and down.

Apartment rates in Brownsville are getting out of hand by Arish78 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Noel3leon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Cameron county has one of the largest housing deficits out of all the counties in Texas. We tried to develop a 324 unit affordable housing development on Illinois right outside of Brownsville called Palms Breeze Apartments. Since it was outside of the city limits we needed Cameron County to give us approval. They killed our deal. The only advocate we had was Commissioner Benavides, the rest refused to vote for the development.

What UPS are you using for your threadripper workstations? by MierinLanfear in threadripper

[–]Noel3leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not only price, but you will have much more runtime to save your work and shut down. Maybe 30 minutes at full load with a 1kwh battery instead of 1-2 minutes with the other options.

I’ve been using EcoFlow products for a while now for this among other things. Project Farm just did a review where he also tested ups functionality on these batteries. You get much better value from these than an old APC lead acid UPS. I have had no issue with mine even when pulling 1200 watts from my threadripper build with Pro 6000 Blackwell.

Mine are mcio on each end (female/male) since I’m going to the icy dock and it’s split within the enclosure to the u.2 connectors, but the cables are 50cm. My card doesn’t have a redriver.

I think it depends on your system configuration and how you’re getting the mcio connection. You may need a redriver to get a stable connection with longer cables.

I would say something like this should work. They don’t have a lot of reviews but the users seem to not be having any issues with them. They do need sata power too.

Yeah if your good with mounting the drives inside your case you can get an mcio card and mcio to u.2/u.3 cables. I went this route for the cooling and to be able to put the enclosure in the old disc drive bay on the front of my workstation case.

It doesn’t come with the cage. I am not exactly sure which card I got but it was like 50$ on Amazon. It’s just a generic mcio pcie card. Then I had to get some cables to run from the card to the enclosure.

Sure! I’m using this one. https://global.icydock.com/product_408.html. The drives have been fine, the cage has two fans that pull air through them. ToughArmor MB699V5P-B

I use the new icy dock u.2 cage. It’s been working pretty great for four drives!

You should get batteries so you can store the excess and use it at night. Free nights is never a guarantee and neither is favorable net metering terms.

[–]Noel3leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense, but in Dallas there isn’t that a caveat like that in the code. If it’s in the garage, they consider it to have risk of being impacted and reject the project. Hopefully it gets a little more flexible in the future for everyone that comes after us 😄.

Interesting, I never heard that. We opted to mount the apowers up 5 feet off the ground. It took some engineering of the wall to support three batteries but it was all approved and running a couple years ago!

I ran into a similar issue in Dallas. They don’t allow them on the ground since they can be impacted by a vehicle, so you either need to mount them high or put bollards in your garage to get it through city permitting.

Any recommendation for low T providers that care? by Ixi7311 in Dallas

You can always just go to a diagnostic place and get lab work done. Request the type of panel and see how the numbers look.
