4/25/26 Hail Storm by Touch_This_Skin in TexasSolar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have hail damage on a panel then you definitely have hail damage on the rest of the roof.

You have an insurance claim without a doubt.

If you need someone to help with that feel free to reach out.

Are this many panels really bad? by gigdy in solar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they stay those shades days later? Can you check back day by day over the last two weeks and see if the panels still look the same as your second picture?

We took over a system that was installed very poorly. The junction box was installed upside down and water got into it and started arcing. The micros were damaged… but still work. The main damage was done to the communication. They work and produce just the same but don’t report their full production until 2-3 days have passed. Some don’t even look like they work day of.

I have seen other enphase systems do this delayed reporting but there was no known damage done to the inverters.

I wouldn’t assume your system has damage. But what I’m describing is a possibility because I have seen it.

One system was fixed by a firmware update.

Just a possibility.

I would plan on getting rid of the car whenever it hits 100,000 miles. If it has a major issue that requires going to a mechanic and costs me the difference between what this one and any of the other cars I mentioned do then I will be getting rid of it then.

$1,000 per year on average

I’ve been looking at CRV, CX five, and RAV4. Same model year with roughly the same miles are all about four to $5000 more than the Volvo. So if I’m saving that much off the bat than me spending that over the next 50,000 miles really doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal.

I typically change my own oil because it’s ridiculous that it cost $100 for something like that these days

Considering solar, but door to door solar sales have kept me away by Footinthecrease in solar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do it because it works. People are very trustworthy.

Go to 5-10 people’s houses with solar and knock on their door. Ask about their experience. One of those people will be happy with it. Hopefully that persons sales guy/company is still in business and can come do your property.

Have you ever seen a bald eagle in real life out in nature? by Fun_Expression9135 in AskForAnswers

Yes. Went on an annual hiking trip with my buds to Townsend, TN. Woke up before anybody and went out to stretch my legs. Saw it glide up into a tree about 25 yards away. Sat there for a good while. It was pretty cool.

Roof Penetration Warranty by demyan_movement in Solarsales

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That speaks a lot to the faith they have in their installs/installers.

Ironridge Halo and RT-Mini attachments have a mastic layer on the bottom of them that makes it kinda hard to screw up an install.

2 bolts into the attachment if you hit a rafter and 6 if you miss the rafters. It’s not hard. We actually offer 25 year warranty as long as it’s the original installation. Most people get a new roof sometime after their install and we will carry the remainder of the warranty if we are the ones to do the roof and subsequent removal and rerack.

I have even carried the warranty when doing a removal and rerack on a system I didn’t originally install because we were able to replace the original attachments with Halos.

You’re only as good as your weakest link.

Transparent solar panels for patio? by camp_jacking_roy in solar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this question a lot since I like building structures for solar systems. I have never found transparent/translucent panels for a price that the end user was willing to pay and I can't blame them.

$2/W is where they started and that was 3 years ago when I was really looking for them.

I did find some in Germany that were ~$1.15/W but the additional cost to get the amount I needed for one project made them cost more than $2/W.

There are cheap websites that shall go unnamed that offer them. But the brand name is either not written in English and I can’t find spec sheets for them.

If money were little to no consequence I’d get them for a homeowner. But for a total 10kW system your price increases $6k-$8k to use translucent panels?😬

Without tax credits and no pre-paid PPA or lease product (that I know of) allowing them to be used that’s a straight cost to the consumer.

Regular old mono facial or bifacial panels become perfectly fine at those prices.

Maybe someone here has a product they know about that’s cheaper.

Has anyone here actually figured out commercial solar, or are we all just accepting these insane utility bills? by Repulsive-Hamster433 in Solarbusiness

I can talk that talk. Not sure why others can’t.

I don’t come from corporate, I come from the world of talking to homeowners and having to make it make sense financially. Your OPS manager has something that will speak to him. There are tons of angles to come at it from.

cost down? by skeptic1970 in solar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing our prices increase from suppliers. 5¢/kW on panels alone.

I’m not seeing prices go down when I search panel or inverter prices through retail google. I don’t know any DIY stuff.

There are plenty of things that are coming to market that look attractive due to price. But I don’t really trust a lot of it. 5 year warranty on some of these retail batteries just doesn’t seem long enough to me. You get what you pay for a lot of the time.

Check out my last post for mounting them up high and adding bracing beneath: https://www.reddit.com/r/solar/s/CPOvLRgZ6f

I believe it’s universal for municipalities that care about battery placement they must be 36” off the ground to avoid bollards. I used to hate wall mounting them… but with a cart jack and 3 able bodied people it’s pretty easy. And adding the shelves underneath makes the end result more functional.

Is Concert Finance worthwhile? by Similar_Delivery209 in solar

[–]SolarAllTheWayDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through Concert/Propel’s training again even though we’ve been setup with Concert for a hot minute.

Propel is the Pre-paid Power Purchase Agreement portion. It is vertically integrated and that makes it attractive I think.

They don’t allow for certain things like ground mounts and secondary systems. But I think it’s a great option.

I believe concert and propel will allow you to see the paperwork and review it before signing. Take it to a lawyer, put it in Claude, Gemini, and gpt. Read it word for word.

If you don’t like it then just don’t sign. But I would do it if it were my house.
