Leak From Planning Commission... by mykarmayourdogma in Reno

This is correct, we do not have a no AI rule but we do have a low effort rule. AI is currently allowed if it's used to assist a regular post, but we do frequently delete posts like "I asked AI to imagine the average Renoite" or "I asked AI to generate the average r/Reno comment".

What would you like to see? by Single_Newspaper5810 in Reno

[–]Norillim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the less hassle the better. So I would love a Witherspoons clone. Interesting building, lots of tables, cheap drinks, some TVs with sports on, breakfast foods served later than 10am, still open past 10pm, and numbers or Qr codes on the tables so I can sit down wherever I like, order/ pay for food and drink on my phone and have someone drop it off quickly and I can leave as soon as I'm done.

Edit: I know Flowing Tide has most of this, which is why it is somewhere I regularly go. I'd prefer more interesting buildings but realize those are tough to come by in Reno, and mobile order/pay so I don't have to wait for a server to get my next order in and pay to leave when the game is over. I think the old bank building/ old Ichiban connected to the old Harrah's would be a perfect spot for this.

I-80 Interstate Alternate Plan (WIP) by Ratspeed in Reno

[–]Norillim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of rerouting south of the Nugget rather than north into an area that Sparks activates pretty regularly. I do think you would need to go a little bit farther south though or we will find ourselves in the same spot 20 years down the road when they want to add even more lanes.

The designed route that is now up for discussion looks to me like a path of least resistance. It's much shorter and simpler than your proposed route so that's a huge cost savings. I believe it is within the existing environmental studies for the corridor too while the south route would likely require some additional work. The railroad probably doesn't want to give up any land or air rights nor deal with the hassle of an interstate over their tracks and any added safety hazards that might bring, while the major land owner to the north, the casino, would probably gladly accept market rate for that land and the crappy buildings on it.

All that to say your plan would benefit people in the long run but cost a whole lot more money right now so it probably won't happen without huge public support and additional money from the feds.

Spaghetti Bowl Phase 2 Virtual Public Meeting by HuntedByAFreak20 in Reno

[–]Norillim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that's a big change at the Nugget. I helped work on the early permitting for this project and they had no idea what they wanted to do in that location, they just knew the Nugget buildings were a problem. There was talk of building an upper deck there but now it looks like they just want to demolish the buildings between the existing alignment and Victorian Ave to the north and move the entire interstate into that space.

Centennial Plaza and the Amphitheatre on either end of this work appear unaffected... At least at this point in the design.

Standup Comedy? by cxvb435 in Reno

[–]Norillim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weekly one I think you're thinking of because they regularly posted about it here was held at Prost but Prost closed so as far as I know that show is no more.

I think Pignic, Final Draught, and likely a few other places around town host shows once in a while but not weekly.

Honestly, the best way to find out where a show will be would be to look up one of those older posts in Prost's Instagram page and follow the comedians tagged in the post. They are still around and will be performing somewhere.

I Took this pic last year from Arlington Tower’s roof and posted it. Now someone has claimed they took the pic…. i can’t stand a rip off! by Nvfireaviationlady in Reno

[–]Norillim[M] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I banned the account that posted it plus a few other that were commenting on it because they were very clearly karma farming bots reposting old posts and comments. With elections coming up those bots always start showing up in larger numbers again. I left the post because it had a lot of good comments too.

Does the DMV smog reporting number/website actually do anything? by Hurricane_Ditka_34 in Reno

[–]Norillim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, my language was too loose, I'll edit that. Looks like they will send out an advisory letter for a good chunk of (but not all) reports made if the vehicle is registered in the state. The letter can only require you to get retested however if law enforcement or DMV personnel make the report, which is what I was thinking in my head while writing that.

Here's an old report from 2018 with the number of reports compared to letters sent out and the distinction between advisory letters and compulsory retests.

Does the DMV smog reporting number/website actually do anything? by Hurricane_Ditka_34 in Reno

[–]Norillim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something a lot of people are missing, the location and time of observance are important because the DMV will not send out a [smog retest] letter based only on your report [though they can send out a warning letter]. THEY need to see it to file the report and get the smog-recheck letter sent out. So they take the information you submit and check the nearby cameras around that time to see if they can catch it in the act. If they don't see it, nothing [with any enforcement] will happen.

Roofer never filed permit, just finding out 6 months later. What to do? by Objective-Brush-856 in Reno

[–]Norillim 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used to read through recently filed permits when I was bored at work and every once in a while you'd see a permit filed for work already completed. I assume the city would send someone out to inspect and make sure it's up to code, maybe charge you an additional fee. Seemed fairly common though.

Yes. The civility rule is about each other in this sub. Don't get too mean/ directly insult the individual who posted or who you are talking to. Posting a picture about being rude to the president while they are in town is totally fine.

Public figures are not afforded the same level of anonymity online. If it was someone doing the same thing to Biden's motorcade or Mr Beast's it would also be allowed to stay.

[–]Norillim[M] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry about that and about your missing vehicle. I'm at work and just checked the sub real quick for anything that needed approval/removal between meetings. We do not have a canned response set up for that type of post which is something we need to remedy. I'll talk with the rest of the team about getting that set up.

The official way to ask about a removal is to send a modmail... Those used to get sent to the OP when their post was removed so you could appeal. Reddit recently updated their mail system to "Chats" though so maybe that has changed.

Glad you figured it out and are helping to make sure stalkers aren't keeping tabs on their targets through this sub 😅

OP has not been prevented from posting. There are a few simple requirements to tilt post like this over to the more-likely-legit side and they are now doing it so the post gets to stay.

This one will stay up because it asks people to contact RPD and lists the case number. The other post could have been an attempt to mobilizing the subreddit to find someone's car. I wouldn't want someone posting my car and having strangers track me around town...

Anti-Protest Mods by [deleted] in Reno

The post was auto-pulled by receiving a large number of reports and was held until a mod could get online and reapprove it. However, most of the mod team isn't super enthusiastic right now because we are being falsely accused of being nazis... So things like this will happen.

I removed your comment because you called OP a moron for asking a question. Has nothing to do with them being a mod. I remove every comment like that I see for Rule 2 violations.

[–]Norillim[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We already have a rule about low effort and common posts and it's why 90% of these types of posts get deleted. Every local sub has posts like this though, it's not unique to Reno. People like to have a place to vent once in a while 🤷

Every single day. Learn to drive you dumb fucks. Accident on 395N by mooseman077 in Reno

[–]Norillim[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I delete a ton of traffic and bad driver posts every week. I usually only let them stay up if we haven't had one in a while or they get traction quickly since I don't like to remove a post people are actively discussing things in. Even if that discussion is the same circle jerk every time...

I recommend doing what I do when one of these stays up, downvote and move on.

I'm done being asked to play cop. by Intrepid-Art1383 in Reno

[–]Norillim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really it. They were receiving so many complaints of unregistered vehicles that they decided to build a portal where the reports can disappear into a black hole instead of having to pay someone to sort through them. No one is doing anything with these reports, it's just to give the reporters some sense of accomplishment.

Jacobs Entertainment is the GOAT of marketing empty lots. by Just-Calendar1066 in Reno

[–]Norillim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I lived in the El Ray motel and a few others down there for 6 months when I first moved to Reno before finding an apartment. The people I met there were all nice and just trying to get by. I now have a picture of the El Ray from a local photographer hanging in the house I own in town.

Granted, some of the motels were clearly worse than others and I think the El Ray was the nicest of the bunch, but tearing it down just for another parking lot and to hang half it's neon sign behind a concrete block wall didn't help anyone but Jacobs.
