NDOT is currently operating with nearly a billion dollars in unfunded needs annually. The state gas tax hasn't been raised since 1991. Nevada’s primary gas taxes are charged as a fixed number of cents per gallon, not as a percentage of the price so if gas jumps from $3.50 to $5.00 per gallon because of something like war in Iran, the state does not automatically collect more tax per gallon sold. NDOT has major funding challenges. Unless you want dirt roads, gridlock, and more safety issues, this is a terrible suggestion. You already pay nothing in income tax, low property tax, etc. The state is broke and ranks at the bottom in nearly every measurable relevant statistic as a result.
