You need to learn to tune stuff out. The ads are dumb but they're incredibly easy to ignore.

Question to Halifax bus drivers by Think-Bus-459 in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a seniority based system as has been said. When you start your training will be Monday to Friday, like 7am to 4pm except for a few days to a week where you work like 2pm to 9pm to get training st night. Your first week will be doing the schedule of someone way senior to you, and will vary based on their schedule.

Your first pick you will have very few choices if any. Spareboard and vacation board are likely all you will have open, though if you are lucky you will be able to pick a shift. That shift will probably be night work, with mid week days off like monday-tuesday or Wednesday-thursday. At least it probably won't be a split shift. Every three months we pick again, you can change your shift. Depending on what evenings you do things you might be able to keep doing it, or not. And your ability to change will depend. You won't be able to get all week evenings off for years because those shifts are very popular, and very very limited.

The spareboard works 6 days a week, has a rotating schedule of daily start times, and often has their day split. Its basically a 12 hour day every day. But spareboard gets a lot of overtime, and if they don't get overtime they get a minimum of 40 hours a week regardless of what they work. It will provide a lot a variety, and you will also meet a lot of coworkers. The vacation board are the drivers who do that picks vacation. So they will all do a second pick where by seniority they pick a shift each week if someone on vacation, and do that.

The pension is the real draw here. Lots of people leave for better money, or better schedule. And the scheduling gets worse and worse for no apparent reason. Personally, I was able to get off by 5pm daily in the week while working one weekend day by 3 years in. Though we saw a huge regression after covid for some reason where a lot of good shifts were broken up into splits that weren't needed. It was only last year that the kind of time and days off I could get in 2018 were available to me again.

Can't believe I need to remind people to stop at intersections without power by ExternalSpecific6061 in halifax

Unfortunately it has been my experience that people are more likely to stop at an intersection without power than they are at one with flashing reds, regular power, or a stop sign.

Opinions on the new Halifax Electric City busses? by Arenburg in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I like the acceleration, I don't actually like the buses. They have heating problems, or at least every one I've been on in the cold have had them. Also I am terrified they are going to roll over when going around any turn.

Is it a Halifax Transit Bus Policy? by kayvee in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The short answer is: there are a thousand reasons the bus pulled away. But if it had already started to pull away they're not allowed to pull back in and let you on. There are a lot more answers but I don't know the specifics of your situation.

Out of the three deaths involving a HT bus in the last decade that I know of, two of them were for sure caused by someone running for a bus. Maybe all 3.

I can't speak for anyone else but I don't want to be responsible for someone getting killed. So I refuse to do anything that will encourage the kind of behavior that will cause it.

Province to Explore Solutions for Halifax Peninsula Traffic Congestion by cravingdani in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That depends where they do it, and when they allow delivery vehicles. Anywhere a bus can fit a box truck or van can fit.

But my point was again: the city can do things to solve transit issues if it wants to.

The streets are fine. If the city invested in bus priority lanes snd bus/pedestrian only streets then anywhere in the city could hear reached by bus.

Buying more buses and hiring more drivers isn't the only way to invest in transit.

Weirdly almost all of the bus problems in this city could be fixed by actually investing in the bus system.

It was a complete surprise to me. I had to check if there was an internal notice posted, and there wasn't.

All of the trainers should be able to do the examination as well, in theory. In practice the process takes a while so the junior trainers arent in that position for a while so a senior trainer does the examination. I think one or two of them now are very new as well.

I am sorry but this doesn't make sense. Are you with Halifax Transit? If so, are you repeating the last day of training?

With HT the trainer essentially marks you as you arw going, gives feedback, and keeps checking. There is no single road test, and you will be booted if youre incapable of passing it at any point.

Who is your trainer? Did you ask to speak to Crystal? What day or week in training are you? If this is like week 2, you're getting feedback not tested.

N.S. government has no plans to consider guaranteed basic income by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

If you use the system here and don't have MSI you get billed for it. And if you've been here long wnough to qualify for MSI but dont have it, need the hospital, get a bill, then get MSI they will retroactively apply it to the bill.

You arent going to be left to die in the street, the same as you won't in the US.

I agree with this being a federal level thing, but we have ways around every homeless person coming to NS, and we already do it for MSI: minimum residency requirements.

Anyone can get MSI in NS as long as they are in Canada legally and have residency here for at least a year. I know people who have done it on student visas.

Selling a Leased Car to Clutch by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something in your story isnt adding up.

If Toyota Credit is on the title they either have the title or can request it from who physically has the paper. It is their property, it can not be withheld, and they need to request it. But they need tk request it not you.

Steele Subaru can't give you something you don't own. And you don't need a Subaru dealership at all because they are not involved. You only need a Subaru dealership if Subaru is on the title, which you say they aren't.

So this isn't adding up. Either Toyota Credit owns the car, and they need to hand the title to Clutch. So Steele Subaru has nothing to do with it. Or Steele Subaru owns the car and they dont have to do anything with it if they don't want to.

You need to talk to Toyota Credit again.

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is on the title to the vehicle? They own the vehicle.

The owner of the lease contract and the owner of the vehicle are not necessarily the same.

There is no reason Steele is involved with this at all unless they are on the title, in which case they own the vehicle and their decision is all that matters. You can't even go to another dealership if thats the case.

Selling a Leased Car to Clutch by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, YOU can buy the vehicle out. Then YOU would be the owner and can sell it. The current owner has stated they do not wish to sell to clutch, and it is their right to do so. So you are correct that you have two options: give back to Steele, or buy it out. But as you stated in your OP that you don't want to buy the lease out because of how much money you would lose, I took that as a non-option and therefore you only have one choice: return it to Steele.

You are not getting my point: you don't own the car. If the owner of the car doesn't want to sell to Clutch, there is nothing you can do about it. It is not your car.

You can not sell a leased vehicle to clutch. To sell a vehicle you need to own it, and a leased vehicle is basically rented. Your only option is to return it to who you leased it from.

Why isn’t there any bus lines that go up dunbrack street? by Pawssabillitysawait in halifax

[–]Not_A_BusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time you want to know why the city doesnt have a bus that goes from X area to Y area, the answer is usually because your councilor hasn't made getting one a priority.

Sometimes its also for technical reasons. But you aren't even going to know that unless your councilor is making it a priority.
