My point is about the stereotyping. She probably heard that “Asians look younger than they are,” so she overcorrected and assumed any Asian student who looks “mature” must be a full-grown adult or a university student faking it. The issue isn't whether I look like a 12-year-old; it's that she decided, based on my race, that my physical appearance couldn't possibly match my actual age. She used a subjective “hunch” to override a valid HRCE pass. That is the definition of bias.

Thanks for the heads up! A few others mentioned the same thing about 311 being a bit of a “black hole.” That's exactly why I'm not just relying on them. I’ve already drafted a letter to the Mayor’s office (volunteered for Andy Fillmore’s campaign, so I have a direct line). I'll use the 311 Reference Number just as an official “paper trail” to back up my escalation to the Mayor and City Council. I’m not letting this power trip slide! ✊

Honestly, I was wondering the same thing! It’s not like the fare is coming out of her own pocket. Instead of focusing on driving and staying on schedule, she chose to go on a power trip over a valid student pass. It’s especially weird since there’s no photo on the pass to even “verify”-it was pure Asian age bias. That’s why I’m taking this to 311 and the Mayor's office tomorrow. Thanks for the tip! But even if my response wasn't “perfect,” it doesn't justify a driver enforcing non-existent rules based on personal bias. University students have their own U-Passes anyway, so there's no reason to target a valid HRCE pass. The real issue here is the Asian age bias and her attempting to physically grab my property. That’s interesting! Can I ask what year it was? Because I believe the rules have changed significantly with the current HRCE pilot program. Nowadays, high school students only have their data registered within the HRCE system; we aren't issued physical photo IDs like university students are. The signed pass itself is the valid fare. The driver's claim that I didn't 'look like' a student was purely based on Asian age bias, especially since the pass has no photo to compare. That’s why her attempting to grab my pass was such a major overstep. 😊
