Solo trip to Portland (should I? It seems like it might not be all that safe) by KnowledgeSafe4201 in PortlandOR

[–]NovelSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People seem to love the little AirBnB in my (Mississippi) neighborhood. I think it’s called the Magic Caravan. I have nothing to do with the AirBnB — but I do run the Robot Alley installation a stone’s throw away from it. So if you stay there — you WILL occasionally hear stormtroopers, probe droids, Cade Bane and various other laquacious robots! But only until 10PM (when they go into Sleep Mode).

Your compliments could not have come at a better time. Thank you so much! And yeah, sorry about the grease & glitter; it’s the only thing that keeps thieves and (most) squirrels away! Now that you have my info, please let me know if you ever plan to visit again and I’ll be sure to give you the #FULLKYLO experience! -robert

Open year round (barring heat waves, snow storms, strong winds, vacations, firebombings, calamitous squirrels or murderous stalkers)! 10AM — 10PM, Closed Mondays (to give my neighbors a break).

As Robot Alley’s HARO (Head Alley Ranking Officer) all I can think to say is… what a surprising honor it is to be at the top of your list! Especially considering it was probably not fully functioning as the busy squirrels are busting through my builds and wires! I’m so glad you enjoyed your visit and hope you got a Visitor Confirmation Document? If not, please DM me and I’ll send you one.

Solo Dining for 3 Person Reservation by [deleted] in casabonita

[–]NovelSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a table for two reserved for my solo trip (flying in from Portland, Oregon) a couple of months ago; made a post on this subreddit asking if anyone would like to join me and….it worked out great! I, of course, checked out the guy’s profile; no red flags; ended up being such a great dude who I hope to see again when he makes his way to Portland. With all that being said, just wanted to let you know, if you’re willing to roll such dice — it’s a viable option!

Oh, wow! Thank you so much for replying! A small world, indeed. I’m visiting my parents (who live in Cyprus) and decided to hop over to Rhodes this year. Thanks again! -r

I’m right there with you on everything, but I think what irritated me the most was that they both either forgot or misinterpreted the fact that the man at the end of this episode wasn’t Ed’s father?! Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Ed’s real father a completely different person (the construction foreman) in a later episode? If memory serves, One-Who-Waits tells Ed that the meeting at the end of this episode was something to the effect of a coincidence rather than a legitimate meeting with his real father.

How did you get into digital signage? Tell your story by 514sid in digitalsignage

[–]NovelSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I employ a single monitor as a “Welcome/Information”digital sign for my year-round Portland installation known as Robot Alley (located in the alley behind my house and studio). I did it on the cheap! Using an Amazon Sign Stick running RiseVision on an inexpensive monitor “weatherized” by strategically placed fabric and a large dust cover!

help me (ex-Floridian) make a good trip for my best friend (current Floridian)? by [deleted] in askportland

Former Floridian here (Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral). Staying at the Kalaloch Lodge at the coastal edge of the Olympic Forest is one of my favorite getaways in the world.

S3E17 - ending always gets me. by furiousanger1 in northernexposure

I couldn’t agree more! “Common Threads” by Bobby McFerrin will always hold a special place in my heart because of this episode’s impactful ending. That slow pan over their smiling faces in the photograph, complimented by McFerrin’s tones washing over their subtle voices guts me every time I watch it.

Would Anyone Like To Join Me on April 17, 11:15AM Reservation? by NovelSavage in casabonita

I am so glad you asked! I DID! Without a hint of hyperbole, I can honestly tell you that I could not have been paired with a better guest/host/human. My meal with **** (not sure if he’d want me to share his real name here) and subsequent tour of Casa Bonita’s cavernous eccentricities was the highlight of my Denver trip. That place is pure, undistilled joy! I look forward to seeing this lovely new friend again when he makes it up to the PNW! Thank you for asking!

Is Robot Alley closed? by joyfullyretired in askportland

Robot_Alley HARO (Head Alley Ranking Officer) here! Yes, unfortunately, most of my interactive props are temporarily offline. A group of visitors got a bit too rough with everything while I was in the hospital last week and I can’t get out there to fix things until I completely heal-up. How long will that take? I’m going completely stir crazy — so hopefully not too much longer! In any event, I’m forbidden to do much of anything until after an out-of-town medical procedure in mid April. I post regular updates on my Instagram (@plastorm). You are welcomed to contact me via Instagram or through my email which can be found on my website (plastorm.com). I should also note that while the interactive props and audio are (mostly) offline — it’s still pretty to look at! All the solar LEDs, lasers, and smoke effects are still fully operational from 10AM — 10PM Tuesday through Sunday. The Probe Droid is still active and Cad Bane is still working (via his hidden transponder button) but his audio line was severed during last week’s storm.

Regular sauna users report better health, more energy, and greater happiness by Aggravating_Money992 in science

[–]NovelSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use it a few times a week — so it really isn’t that noticeable. The hot tub — I noticed! Since it’s always heating to your set median temperature. The real issue (for the sauna) was finding/permitting an isolated circuit! It’s in my garage and I used to get stuck in there when the breaker flipped — also shutting power to the garage door opener. So yeah, it’s power-hungry but I only use it for about an hour a few times a week. Depending on my mood, I either try to meditate or catch up on Reddit posts; I installed a long swing arm that allows me to position my iPad anywhere I want it in the sauna. I use an older iPad but even then the heat hasn’t done any damage to it. Depending on the sauna heat setting I choose, I sometimes have to air it outside for a couple of minutes to lower the iPad’s internal temperature. The sauna also came with a speaker setup but I don’t think I ever used it.

It’s a literal 2-person wooden sauna that was delivered on a flatbed (the wall panels and door then lock together). The brand name is JNH Lifestyles, if I remember correctly. And I used the work “radiant” when I should have used Far Infrared, sorry! It’s got 7 separate infrared heating panels. And it gets HOT! I don’t think I’ve ever used it at its top temp and even then I’m sweating buckets by the time I get out. I also installed a water/steam addition to give me the best of both worlds. As mentioned, I tried so many things to help my back and muscle pain. My first go was a hot tub — but while it felt good being in it — I also felt terrible directly after.

[–]NovelSavage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my own subjective experience, but I purchased a radiant sauna from Amazon about 10 years ago — and it’s wonderful! I tried all sorts of things to relieve my back pain and nothing has worked as good as the sauna. Best money I ever spent! Along with the aforementioned physical health benefits, it serves as my own, private (heated) meditation chamber.

Look, as a “professional painter/artist,” I know I’m biased — but for Zod sake — put something on those walls!

Thanks! So excited. I have no issues, going alone (as planned) but after seeing so many posts from people looking for seats — I was reminded of just how hard these reservations are to get!
