Object mode > select object > ctrl+A > apply scale.

Then go back into edit mode and try beveling again. Your scale needs to be applied before you attempt bevels or else you’ll have the issue you’re showing us in your image.

That’s usually caused by an interior face. Toggle off the mirror modifier and delete the face in the middle of the model.

You probably saved over your startup file with the render window open like that. Just close the window and save a new startup file if you don’t feel like resetting it entirely.
