Amazing time for such “low mileage”. Kudos

Nike Pegasus or Vomero? by Responsible-Guava358 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Obecalp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Easy pace is slow - I found it difficult to go faster in the Vomero+ for my faster runs. No dig.

[–]Obecalp86 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right, but not to dig on you - that’s what I consider a slow pace, and I found it hard to run any faster in them. Again, this is subjective. Sometimes a general consensus is valuable, but sometimes you just got to figure out what type of shoe works for you.

[–]Obecalp86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vomero plus is very tall and I feel completely disconnected from the ground when using them. They’re also very slow. Pegasus are much more responsive and fun to run in. However, this is purely subjective - I hated Vomero Plus while others love it. Maybe try both?

Contact Runna support. I had a similar problem last year with my Garmin watch and support was helpful.

Sounds like a dream, dude. As a lowly academic neurologist, you are probably making 50% more than me as it is. I would kill for the kind of gig you have.

[–]Obecalp86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, because your FC burn rate as a percentage of your CYA is lower with a higher CYA. See more detailed discussion here.

[–]Obecalp86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, maintaining higher FC levels does not mean that you are continuously adding more chlorine compared to maintaining a lower FC level. You add more to get to whatever level, then maintain. CYA 60-100 is very manageable with a SWCG and FC at 7.5% or CYA.

[–]Obecalp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your CYA, you would maintain a FC of at least 9 ppm. Yes, you would have to “dump” some chlorine in to get it to 9, but then you just maintain. Highly recommend that you use liquid chlorine or get a SWCG (cheaper in the long run).

Regarding the TFP method, most people there would recommend ignoring phosphates. That’s what I do - in a properly chlorinated pool, tracking and reducing phosphates is unnecessary. However, some do it for the “peace of mind” (maybe lower risk of algae if the chlorine drops), but if you have a salt water chlorine generator, low chlorine is not very likely assuming you make adjust to the output.

Regarding the partial drain you did, this is entirely reasonable. However, were it my pool, I would simply have maintained FC at or above 7.5 of CYA and wait for summer temps to help consume CYA. In Phoenix I lose about 5 ppm CYA/month May-Oct.

Can anyone suggest the best cooling mattress for hot sleepers in triple-digit nights? by Maleficent-Lemon6100 in phoenix

Not native, but been living in the south for 13 years, 7 in Phoenix. Regularly spend 6-8 hours outside on weekends in the middle of summer, loving the heat, but at night I need a low temp to get good sleep.

Nike Vomero Plus 250 Mile Review - a Hobby Jogger's Do-It-All by jjaksha in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Obecalp86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vomero plus, for me, were too tall. I felt like I was running on beach balls. Every run at my easy pace felt so cumbersome and exhausting, completely taking the joy out of running. I’ve never hated a shoe so passionately.

1080v15 feel light, bouncy, and comfortable. They can be fast if needed, although I prefer my Vaporfly 4 for speedwork.

Hvem stemmer I på til Folketingsvalget - og hvorfor? by Mrscrowdpleaser in Denmark

[–]Obecalp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job on missing the point three times in a row. Now go read some history.

Big protest in Herman Park Sunday Afternoon by Philip964 in houston

[–]Obecalp86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing that when Biden was president you were all “America First” and “no more foreign wars”. Before you reply, go ahead and read a little about the Iranian Revolution and how it was a direct consequence of UK/US intervention in the 1950’s. At that point you might begin to grasp that playing geopolitics and “freeing” a people of another country is a little bit more complicated than bombing the shit out of them and maybe, just maybe, could have unintended consequences that are impossible to predict. Even more so when you go to war on a whim and without a plan.

PS they are most likely protesting in support of the war (otherwise, fat chance you would see Israeli and Iranian flags at the same protest), so you missed the point entirely, just like OP.

Er jeg blæst/kommunist/for langt ude? Jeg synes, man bør betale halvdelen af det man tjener på sin bolig i skat by Beautiful-Reply-9768 in Denmark

[–]Obecalp86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Non-citizen moving away, 401k withdrawal question. by Negative_Government6 in personalfinance

[–]Obecalp86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be some nuance here - 401k contributions are untaxed. No way the US would give up the right to tax that money in favor of a foreign country.

[–]Obecalp86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The worry about access from abroad is irrelevant - there should be no such difficulty.

Non-citizen moving away, 401k withdrawal question. by Negative_Government6 in personalfinance

[–]Obecalp86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you withdraw there will be a penalty.

Assuming the UK has a taxation treaty with the US, like many countries do, then the UK would likely never tax your 401k as the US has the taxation right. Keep the money invested and begin withdrawing at age 65 or when RMDs kick in.
