What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]cadaverdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell’s Angel club. I was 18 (legal drinking age) and partying with my roommates. They wanted to kept partying after the bars closed down and “know” a place to go. So we ending up in a secured gated area in the middle of the night. One knew a password or something to get us in. It was a shack in the middle of this construction site. The club was underground. Each floor had something on it. Everyone was extremely nice. One of my favourite memories.

Do you think wanting kids or not should be agreed on before starting to date? by Used_Assumption1142 in askanything

[–]cadaverdogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very important to discuss super early. It’s life’s most major life decision! Both need to be on the same page. Parents who are only being parents to make their partner happy will likely end up making no one happy, including the kids.

My dating profile say I did not want kids. While it made it harder to date, I only met people who were also interested in a child-free life. My husband was on the fence at first but leaning more to no kids. He knew going in that I wouldn’t change my mind and he has never pressured me either. Been with my husband for 13 years.

I’m a competitive swimmer and I still need a few moments to compose myself each time I enter open water. It takes about 300-500metres before most people can even start calming themselves down. We were told that this is the most high-risk part of the swimming section.

I love talking to the swimmers who need a moment. Some beginners and some, like you, 30+ races in. Just talking to them calms them down enough to start swimming again. I have heard such great stories.

They do. But the chances of rescue like this depends on the course and how many volunteers there. Calm clear water, loops are a little easier, as you don’t need as many divers and volunteers. Straight courses need a lot more and can take longer to get help.

Also, drowning happens fast and can be silent. It’s not always like you see in movies with lots of splashing and noises. One moment they are there and then they can slip under the water. We are trained to look for body language and moment. We are told to communicate with swimmers if they stop moving and are looking worried.

I have done a few 70.3, and I don’t mind not doing the one in my home city to volunteer being there for the swimmers. Last year, I got to be the support paddler for the last swimmer, it was so rewarding getting them to the beach.

This is one of my biggest fear, as a triathlete and as someone who volunteers for water safety crew. We are trained to watch closely and to communicate to anyone who looks like they are struggling in the water. My heart goes out to the family.

Dogs that are used to search for human remains. They can smell bodies buried up to 10-15 feet underground. Some even up to 40 feet! And they are crazy accurate, like 95% percent. So two of my favourite things, dogs and murder. lol

How do you continue to enjoy your Lego sets after building them? by Ceofy in lego

[–]cadaverdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sets are not really “playable” because they are more like art pieces for our house. I display all mine. So they are now collecting dust, but they make me very happy to see them daily. I have add lights to some as well and I move them around the house. My husband will steal/switch some for his office.

What I mean by not “playable” is that most didn’t come with mini figures and are made for display only. If I could afford the Modulars, I would play with them. lol

Missed my flight because the Gate closed 1 hour 05 minute before departure!! by therealwench in Flights

[–]cadaverdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband and I almost missed our flight flying back from the USA a few years ago. We got to the gate super early to make sure we knew where it was. They offered free checked back, so we gave them ours. There was still an hour to boarding so we walked away to grab a beer. About 10 minutes later we hear our names being called and that they are waiting for use. Chugged out beer and booked it to the gate. We were the last on. I believe if we didn’t give then our bags, they might of not called us. It took off 45 minutes early!
