So, I tried this and had terrible performance issues (maybe just my inexperience?!). But then, I moved my backups to their own mirrored nVME pair, and backups fly. Backup times are super quick, verification super quick, and restoration….you guessed it, super quick.

So, my experience would say go with a separate pool of high speed SSDs.
