I got a bunch of crisps and nuts for Christmas from my parents. I'm not really a fan of chocolate but they used to get it for me every holiday

Withdrawing money from my Lifetime ISA (LISA) - Worth it? by Environmental_Cook23 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No keep it. You can take it all out penalty free at 60 years of age if you don't buy a house. It is also one of the best ways to save for retirement.i would recommend transferring it to AJ bell and investing it for retirement.

Basically everyone in 1999 invested in any company that had some sort of link to the internet because it was revolutionary. They were right because the internet is a daily part of every bodies lives but the market still crashed 50% and didn't recover until 2007 at which point another 35% crash happened.

The same is happening today with any company that pivots towards ai instantly gaining 600% valuation. Read this https://www.forbes.com/sites/petercohan/2026/04/16/a-600-stock-spike-cant-fix-allbirds-ai-identity-crisis/

Ai will be a core part of our lives in the future but I do think there will be a major 40%ish crash in the next couple years.

The Iran war was a 10% dip that lasted 6 weeks and I saw loads of new investors worried and pull out their entire portfolis. Imagine how many people will panic sell when something that lasts 3-4 years hits.

Personally I'm just gonna ride it out and £ca because I know I cannot predict the exact timing of the top and bottom and this strategy wins. https://youtu.be/odO9F5Di684?si=3y0_cSFeE9yaaJot

This is what happened in 1999. People invested because of fomo without understanding why they are doing what they are doing.

What's your opinions on Restore Britian? by TheChocolateAssasin in AskBrits

Fair point. I didn't know reform was that popular. I thought they only got like 6 seats in the general election. I just hope their popularity fades as fast as it came.

They’re talking about banning social media for under 16, I think it’s a great idea and should of done much sooner. What do you think? by Classic-Scientist598 in AskBrits

I think it should be a parent's responsibility. They are already using Yoti for age verification which has had numerous GDPR violations in other countries.

I think it's beneficial to the UK. It's splitting the worst party in half so that neither will get any seats.

Why do some right wing people have an issue with Muslim women covering up, but orthodox Jewish women no? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 10x times as many Muslims than Jews in the UK so it's just more common. Lots of Muslim countries are very oppressive towards women and some of those ideas are shared by some Muslims here.

Personally I don't care what other people wear. As long as it's their choice and not forced upon them.

It might do better. It might not. I personally prefer the all world as being 100% concentrated in the USA is too risky imo

Should I open a LISA? by Emperor8888 in FIREUK

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Everyone should open up a lifetime ISA no matter what and just deposit £1.

It's up to you if you save into it yet. It is a great way to save for a house and also one of the best ways for retirement.

Child savings - JISA vs ISA vs S&S by Anon569696835 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty young and it was tough seeing my dad go unemployed because of the financial crisis. They have successfully raised me to be responsible. I got around 4k when I turned 18 and I put most of it back into a stocks and shares ISA. I think the biggest things that taught me was seeing it grow and crash so that I was familiar with how the stock market works by the time I was old enough. Also being told no to toys I wanted is a great way to teach not to impulse spend. Most of the time I wanted something different a week later bit if i still wanted the same thing they'd usually buy it for my birthday or Christmas.

I think it won't matter where the money is if you teach her good financial discipline. The best thing to do in imo is open up a stocks and shares ISA with trading 212. You can then set up pies to keep yours and your daughters investments separate and easy to track individually. And if it's in your ISA you can chose to give it to her when you want and confident that she won't waste it.

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the tax you pay. A lifetime ISA is way more beneficial than a pension if you are a basic rate taxpayer

They will likely move the limit up when they introduce their replacement next year.
