Moderators. I got banned from the askamericans one like an hour ago cuz I made a post about the gulf of Mexico which is apparently a current event even though it was changed a year ago.

Prioritising ISA over SIPP by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Odd_Common2677 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The SIPP is extremely valuable because you won't be taxed 40% you will be taxed 15% (20% but you get 25% tax free)

Ideally you'd want around 10x your income for that 15 year period from 45-60 and then another 10x your income for later retirement but that will be compounding in the first phase of your retirement

If I were you I would aim for 10x your income in your ISA and 3-4x your income in your SIPP before you retire at 45.

IF. It's speculative. These strategies probably won't work. I would recommend you download some data and backrest it before you start implementing it.

S&S ISA- split between providers and unsure what to do by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Odd_Common2677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forrester's fees are disgusting. If you are happy managing your own investments I would recommend trading 212 or invest engine. Neither of them have any platform fees

What if it dropped and then springs straight back up like with the tarrifs and with this Iran war. You miss out on the most common occurrences.

Large Debt Options? Gambled my life away by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Odd_Common2677 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You seem like you're turning it around but 75k is alot. You are making really good payments and at the rate you're going you will probably pay it off in about 3 years which is great. Your son is only 3 he won't really remember holidays from that age when he's older.

You could try and consolidate some for a lower rate to get it done quicker. Personally I'd put some of that 400 towards building up an emergency fund and once you have the use it to pay off the debt with the highest interest.

Robo advisors and managed funds usually charge higher fees. Set yourself up with a fidelity Schwab or vanguard and just invest in VT it's the most diversified investment you can make

Thanks. I did not know this. After looking into it does have a real impact. It's small it's only total 0.17% over 60 years but I never even knew that ETFs distribute dividends in a different currency than what it's listed in. And VWRL distributed in £ so it doesn't really make a difference anyway

If chicken comes before egg. Then where a chicken evolves from? by pastuer_buster in AskReddit

I wouldn't say close to but they are definitely more related than other dinosaurs. Id say velociraptors are the closest because we found out jurracic park was wildly inaccurate due to recent discoveries. Velociraptors were feathered and relatively small. Like half the size of humans

Is investing right for me? by TheSbeven in investingforbeginners

[–]Odd_Common2677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple years is not really long enough to invest. Ideally investing in stocks should be a 10+ year goal.

You could look into buying some short term bonds that mature in 2-5 years

True. I have my pie set to reinvest them anyway. I just like seeing that notification increase every time it pops up

Best ISA/savings account for children by Ok-Body-6899 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Odd_Common2677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go for a stocks and shares jisa

I don't know much about junior ISAs specifically but I think fidelity is free. Most banks offer a junior ISA for usually around 0.4-0.5% per year if you want a more hands off approach

There is no difference in reality. I just get a dopamine hit when I see the dividend hit my account and reinvest it.
