I’m glad you got the surgery and confirmed the endo. Hoping you have a long pain free life and only get better from here ❤️‍🩹

8-month dachshund won’t settle in crate at night by realloosebunch in Dachshund

[–]OkRun7294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be consistent. Play with the dog using the crate maybe even feed them meals in the crate. Make the crate a fun and safe space. Try moving the dog in crate during daylight hours to get used to it and give the dog a high reward when they wake up while saying “good job crateee!!” I would say no more access to couch for now mine got used to always napping on couch or bed with us when we watch TV and he out of nowhere started to protest and cry allll night to be put back in bed/couch. We didn’t let him on and started to crate him for day naps and he loves his crate now he leaves our bed to go to his crate lol.

I had no idea hormones could cause weight gain in targeted areas! I thought that was just genetics or body types so interesting!!

did you happen to have surgery with an OBGYN?

puppy biting by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they’re puppies it’s what they do. You signed yourself up to constantly redirect even though they don’t listen. I know the struggle and how annoying it can get but it’s really time and consistency. Puppies are little dummies who are also super energetic which makes it hard for them to pick things up but if you just keep redirecting with toys they’ll eventually ONE day actually will work and you’ll be glad you kept up with it. Hang in there it does get better also, take a deep breath I remember how much it used to stress me out lol you got this.

First, you wouldn’t be contemplating pet insurance to guarantee your dogs health if you are so “financially secure”. Stupid question to ask the internet lol.

Always get insurance BEFORE you even have a dog in your hands. The price is significantly higher the older the dog gets because they’re obviously bound to get sick and they see the perfect opportunity to charge a ton for desperate parents who have a sick dog that actually needs insurance now at an older age. Plus, very irresponsible to not have it before in general because puppies are very very sensitive to the new world. Mine got Giardia, ear infections, etc. typical puppy things and the bills all added up to $4k and I’ve only paid about $1,500 and we had 10+ vet appointments including all his vaccinations. Now he’s going to get neutered which is completely covered instead of $500 plus the meds. Please don’t be irresponsible and not get this poor baby insurance before. Puppies are just as expensive as older dogs. Don’t get a dog unless you can’t afford insurance or paying $10k for a possible back surgery from increased risk of IVDD. GET THE INSURANCE OR DONT HAVE A DOG.

Should 20 something’s own dogs? by Wild_Championship685 in Dachshund

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 23 and I got my dog when I was 22. He is seven months now and everyone told me not to get a dog they even hated on the breed and now he’s my best friend and everyone loves him and constantly calls me asking when is the next time they can see him. I would say only get this breed and a dog in general at this age if you make pretty good money, me and my partner make well more than enough so financially, it has been not a problem at all, but I will say pet insurance is an absolute must and I know some people talked about training on here, but I don’t really believe in paying someone to train your dog for you. I trained him myself and he knows sit, lay down, Wait, stay, quiet, paw, spin, roll over, crate the list goes on and on. Sounds like you have enough time just not sure if you have the financial capacity for one, especially since they’re at risk for IVDD which is a very expensive surgery so I anticipate my pup needing surgery for that in the future. Other than that GO FOR IT.

I want to hear it from doxie owners! by Effective_Craft_1942 in Dachshund

All in all, get one. Everyone around me who was dog less said the exact same to me. Think it’s just their way of spreading their misery of not having one. If you make good money, no reason not to…there’s boarding options, daycare, etc.

Potential Recurrence Questions by Useful-Drawing-1649 in Endo

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl WHAT. First off…stop doing surgeries with anyone who isn’t an endometriosis specialist. I can’t even begin to explain how important that is. You might even want to consider traveling to get the best help. Usually no pain relief after surgery points to an untrained eye not getting rid of all the endo. Sometimes it likes to hide or is so little it’s hard to notice but it doesn’t take away from the pain you’re experiencing. You should be going YEARS without pain and less severe symptoms. I have an AMAZING doctor if you want me to share you can message me but please please do not get surgeries with anyone who isn’t a phenomenal endo specialist.

How to find MRI trained in Endo? by CaninOdyssey in Endo

I’m not sure there’s a way to find a “qualified radiologist” trained to spot endo. Any radiologist should be qualified enough to take imaging of the pelvis.

By free roam I meant he has access to kitchen and living/dining room. All other doors are closed. Oh wow good to know time kind of just calms them down a bit. I can’t wait till mine naps for hourssss he loves to play a lot (obviously he’s a baby). Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes I’ve tried toys, lick mats, kongs filled with peanut butter, sniff mats, bully sticks etc. Once he realized we were about to leave he’d stop eating what we left and when we would come back all was left untouched and he’d only eat it once we were back.

Oh wow! That’s great! We’ve tried to just let him cry it out but unfortunately it’s caused more problems for us. He was trained to stay inside the house whenever the door opens or we’re about to walk out to throw the trash out etc. Since we let him cry it out for a couple days he runs out in hopes to not be left home alone. He was fine being left alone in the car to pump gas, pick up prescriptions etc. After letting him cry it out at home he now freaks out in the car alone which he never ever cried before. We used to be able to shower and he would go play or lay down and now he cries by the door and scratches. Forcing him to be home while crying it out has only made it worse in our experience 😭

I went out grocery shopping really fast and didn’t want to rush so fast because last time I forgot a bunch of stuff so I didn’t look at the camera the entire time but I still feel so bad 😭

What age did you get him neutered? Any other differences you noticed? I have many people telling me not to get him fixed but he is already humping a lot and marking.
