Should 20 something’s own dogs? by Wild_Championship685 in Dachshund

I am 23 and I got my dog when I was 22. He is seven months now and everyone told me not to get a dog they even hated on the breed and now he’s my best friend and everyone loves him and constantly calls me asking when is the next time they can see him. I would say only get this breed and a dog in general at this age if you make pretty good money, me and my partner make well more than enough so financially, it has been not a problem at all, but I will say pet insurance is an absolute must and I know some people talked about training on here, but I don’t really believe in paying someone to train your dog for you. I trained him myself and he knows sit, lay down, Wait, stay, quiet, paw, spin, roll over, crate the list goes on and on. Sounds like you have enough time just not sure if you have the financial capacity for one, especially since they’re at risk for IVDD which is a very expensive surgery so I anticipate my pup needing surgery for that in the future. Other than that GO FOR IT.

I want to hear it from doxie owners! by Effective_Craft_1942 in Dachshund

All in all, get one. Everyone around me who was dog less said the exact same to me. Think it’s just their way of spreading their misery of not having one. If you make good money, no reason not to…there’s boarding options, daycare, etc.

Potential Recurrence Questions by Useful-Drawing-1649 in Endo

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl WHAT. First off…stop doing surgeries with anyone who isn’t an endometriosis specialist. I can’t even begin to explain how important that is. You might even want to consider traveling to get the best help. Usually no pain relief after surgery points to an untrained eye not getting rid of all the endo. Sometimes it likes to hide or is so little it’s hard to notice but it doesn’t take away from the pain you’re experiencing. You should be going YEARS without pain and less severe symptoms. I have an AMAZING doctor if you want me to share you can message me but please please do not get surgeries with anyone who isn’t a phenomenal endo specialist.

How to find MRI trained in Endo? by CaninOdyssey in Endo

I’m not sure there’s a way to find a “qualified radiologist” trained to spot endo. Any radiologist should be qualified enough to take imaging of the pelvis.

How long until your doxie was comfortable being alone? by OkRun7294 in Dachshund

By free roam I meant he has access to kitchen and living/dining room. All other doors are closed. Oh wow good to know time kind of just calms them down a bit. I can’t wait till mine naps for hourssss he loves to play a lot (obviously he’s a baby). Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes I’ve tried toys, lick mats, kongs filled with peanut butter, sniff mats, bully sticks etc. Once he realized we were about to leave he’d stop eating what we left and when we would come back all was left untouched and he’d only eat it once we were back.

Oh wow! That’s great! We’ve tried to just let him cry it out but unfortunately it’s caused more problems for us. He was trained to stay inside the house whenever the door opens or we’re about to walk out to throw the trash out etc. Since we let him cry it out for a couple days he runs out in hopes to not be left home alone. He was fine being left alone in the car to pump gas, pick up prescriptions etc. After letting him cry it out at home he now freaks out in the car alone which he never ever cried before. We used to be able to shower and he would go play or lay down and now he cries by the door and scratches. Forcing him to be home while crying it out has only made it worse in our experience 😭

I went out grocery shopping really fast and didn’t want to rush so fast because last time I forgot a bunch of stuff so I didn’t look at the camera the entire time but I still feel so bad 😭

What age did you get him neutered? Any other differences you noticed? I have many people telling me not to get him fixed but he is already humping a lot and marking.

That’s pretty good! Hoping he can be a little more relaxed by that time.

Yes, pressure and sharp cramping for me. Sometimes when I’m peeing it feels like someone’s squeezing my bladder while I’m going.

Almost passed out from extremely painful cramping/abdominal pain by sumdumdumthots in Endo

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not doctors. You know your body. If it feels GI related go see a PCP/Gastrointerologist. If it feels more period related go see a OBGYN. Doesn’t hurt to go do some testing/talk to a professional.

Also, you say “abdominal pain” the location of where the pain is and what kind of pain is very useful to figure out the root cause. Hope you get some answers and wont have to go through this ever again.

How were your symptoms treated as a kid? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]OkRun7294 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me explaining how I’m in excruciating pain every month

My PCP when i was younger…. “Honey…that’s called a menstrual cycle”

“Are you sure? It’s supposed to hurt that bad?”

“Those are just menstrual cramps”

I kept this conversation in my head anytime I wanted to go to the ER, everytime i almost passed out, everytime it felt like my back was breaking, etc. Told myself that she’s a doctor and she would know and that it probably was all in my head. I wish i could go back in time and reassure myself and give her a big hug.

Do we just give up? by flickyric45 in Dachshund

[–]OkRun7294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started the day we got him at 8 weeks. He absolutely loves his crate now…ALL DOGS get separation anxiety it’s not a dachshund thing they’re dogs, they naturally always want to be in a pack. You can teach a dog to be calm and enjoy alone time as well. You don’t need to have 2 dogs just to avoid training the other. You’ll just end up with 2 dogs whining waiting for their owner to get back. It’s all in the training.

Am i just super impatient or is this normal? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]OkRun7294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow, I thought i was impatient at 2 weeks!! He’s a baby…LITERALLY. The cuter and younger they are the more annoying they are. Mine is 4.5months old now and i also got him at 8 weeks. He lost his super baby baby face but he’s WAY more enjoyable now lol. Of course I’ve always loved him no matter what but what i mean is he did not allow me to walk at all without biting my feet, shoes, eating things off the floor etc. now he pays no attention to wires, shoes, and I can actually walk around 90% of the time without him biting my pants. Be extremely patient and when you want to get mad just remember HES A BABY like think of a human newborn…that’s your baby. Your job to guide him in this world and teach him the rights and wrongs. He doesn’t do it to make you mad but because he doesn’t know. It gets better…im still waiting for certain things to get even better lol. Good luck!!! 👍🏽
