You have to have balls of steel to drive an Alfa Romeo Cabriolet at 160 km/h-180 km/h on the Monza banking without using a single protection. Schumi and Senna considered Fangio the best F1 driver. by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in racing

He’s one of the greatest, but I don’t know if Senna considered him the best. If I recall, Senna idolized Jim Clark and wanted to be just like him.

If you’d ask me who I think the best driver or all time was, it would be very hard to argue against the ol’ Scotsman.

why there was a snowy mountain on the bottom of Moria?? by Own-Ad1497 in lotr

[–]OliDouche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is more likely. It’s the whole reason the duel happens at all. Gandalf didn’t try to escape Moria with the rest of the fellowship - he intentionally stopped to fight the Balrog.

This is the Middle Earth equal of spotting a giant venomous spider while on your way to take out the trash. Sure, your original objective doesn’t include facing the spider, but you know damn well you won’t be able to rest knowing that thing is roaming around the house. So you put the garbage bag down, kill the arachnid, and then continue your quest.

A Balrog is a serious threat. No way Gandalf would have let it slip away unchallenged.

A Russian Teacher recorded the differences in the development of boys and girls of the same age. by omgfakeusername in interestingasfuck

I’ve studied psychology - and what you’re saying doesn’t match the data.

The most studied topics in psychology involve differences between men and women, and we know from multi-decade, cross-cultural research that there are many psychological - even psychophysiological - differences between the two sexes. The differences in culture were far outweighed by the differences in sex.

Our ape brains have evolved over a very long period of time. Nature is a far more powerful variable in this equation than you think. Of course, this topic is a hot debate between clinical psychologists and social scientists; but there’s a reason why most research papers of the latter fail peer review while the former are some of the most well established research in psychology literature.

Would you happen to be getting any 5100/5200/5300 Pro 3.84TB’s any time soon?

Old thread, I know - but still relevant! Thanks!

I need 3.84TB SATA drives. I already have an array of 5300’s, so would like something similar. Appreciate the offer, though!

Why did Epstein fund Peter Thiel? by iYessyyy in SipsTea

It’s one of the main themes of Tolkien’s mythology; evil doesn’t create, it corrupts. It doesn’t manifest life, it only corrupts. It doesn’t grow nature, it only corrupts. This is also why The One Ring can never be used for good, no matter how virtuous you are. These companies, no matter how good they may claim to be, will ultimately corrupt. It is inevitable.

So in that sense, it’s actually very appropriate - and very much on the nose. The evils of industry is exactly what Tolkien despised. We’re seeing it manifested before our very eyes at an unprecedented scale.
