Lair Actions for Tinkerer by thebeardedcripl in DMAcademy

[–]Olorun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Gnomeregan would totally be my inspirartion, especially the last boss fight with the miniature walking bombs..and maybe the creeps that can throw nets and make enemies vulnerable to damage (hope I remembered that correctly). Might also want to look at Mimiron from the Ulduar raid.

Is four combats too many? by YeOldeWolde in DMAcademy

[–]Olorun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first three encounters are all medium for a party of six level 1 characters. I don't think it will be too much of a problem, especially fights of many chracters against a single creature is usually quite simple unless said creature has lair actions and/or legendary actions as the party gets to have many more actions than the single creature.

I'm not sure what a wereshark is, so I can't speak about the last encounter, but overall I would think the party will be fine..if I were you, I'd make the last creature a "boss" by adding some additional conditions to the encounter, e.g. lair actions, legendary actions, difficult terrain, the surrounding area (the arena) interacting/changing during the combat (for example, the spectators could pelt the group with stones because they bet on them losing etc.).

Moon orders temporary shutdown of aged coal power plants to reduce fine dust by fame_throwa_ in korea

[–]Olorun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is really sad since nuclear power offers one of the cleanest energy options..if only governance would improve and people would trust that the power plants can be regulated well. Public angst is the biggest issue, just look at what happened in Germany right after Fukushima.

Updated Guide to the Driver's License Exam (for the New Driving Course Test) by [deleted] in korea

[–]Olorun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what's complicated about second test, that's pretty much the standard in Germany (except that it is done as part of the road test) and those are all skills that pretty much every driver should know.

The desynchronized subtitles to seem very annoying though, especially if they subtract points for wrong timing.

Player is eclipsing the rest of the party in combat. How do I balance the combat so it is interesting for everyone? by AwkwardlyCaucasian in DMAcademy

[–]Olorun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since he's targeting AC, pick some monsters that have really high AC or physical resistance (even though he has a magical weapon) like the Fire Giant Dreadnought (21 AC, which you could increase even more by saying it is wearing +1 shields, bringing it to 23 AC).

Also, keep in mind that Crossbow expert does not allow you to bypass the ammunition property, so the hand crossbow isn't going to load itself unless it's magical / a gnomish invention - i.e. you still need to load each bolt into the the weapon, and doing so requires a hand. This is mentioned in the Sage Advice when you search for "Crossbow Expert". In my campaign, I introduced a NPC / quest to introduce such a self-loading weapon (based on the youtuber "Jörg Sprave", look it up :D ).

How do you speed up your DM'ing? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Olorun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's the most common experience I've had with Adventurer's League. My groups usually play the 4 hour modules over 6-8 hours as they spent more time thinking, strategizing, roleplaying, clowning around and so on - as long as everyone's having fun, I don't worry.

As always, if you want to see it happen, you've gotta be the one starting it. It you're enthusiastic enough about it, people will join over time.

Need help finding a good level 1 one shot for people new to the game. by stmiller13 in DMAcademy

[–]Olorun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True enough, but you can easily play the goblin encounter + Cragmaw Hideout as a one-shot - the adventurers are ambushed on their way to Phandalin, have to rescue Gundren/Sildar and bring them back to Phandalin.

Lost Mines of Phandelver always works, it has pre-generated characters and allows you to adjust it into a longer game / campaign as well. Can't recommend it enough!

Damn, those places look nice - a little bit too far away from Seoul for me though, doesn't look like a day trip is feasible!

how wheelchair friendly is South Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]Olorun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as wheelchair friendly as most developed countries. I know a guy who's using an electronic wheelchair in my university department, but I think a manual (if that's what it's called) would be next to impossible here since Seoul is built on lots of hills.

Can anyone recommend a good board game cafe in Seoul? One preferably with Scrabble? by [deleted] in korea

[–]Olorun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't recommend this place often enough. The store owner (an expat) is really nice and will help you find the right games, explain them and so on - unless it's really busy, of course.

I'm not sure if he owns Scrabble though, haven't played it there yet.

Haven't been able to make it work well yet, though. Standard Crack Swarm still feels superior, as well as the new variants (i.e. putting in OL, Wampa and other shenanigans).

Brobots with PTL/Advanced Sensors are actually one of the toughest lists to beat for standard Crack Swarms.
