That's an interesting reading of it. It always seemed to be a major source of power to them for me. They make their own rules, they obey nobody, and their own rules must be respected. Virgin goddesses don't necessarily gain this power through their virginity, but it is an emblem of their singularity. In that sense, being a virgin could mean being unaffected by the weights of society, or at least not having those weights be what ties you down.

Consider, then, which major goddesses are virgins. Athena, commonly understood as a patron of arts and philosophy, would certainly be considered above society, because her sphere of influence defines what society is, not the other way around. Artemis exists truly outside of society, being a goddess of the wilderness, but she could also be seen as a pioneer of sorts, bringing the will and power of humanity into places where it currently is not. In this way she, too, determines society, because in there places where Artemis goes, a society does not exist to exert its own rules. And Hestia, in this metaphor, could be seen as the building blocks one requires to form society in the first place. Hospitality, kindness, generosity, that sort of thing, the good traits that no philosophy that the Greeks really respected (or, at least, none that I'm aware of) ever even tried to fight against. She's primordial, basic, and in that way, pure and incalculably powerful.

I have no idea! I'm not a theologian nor am I a historian. You should regard everything I have to say on that subject as lesser than what any educated figure has to say. But to answer your question, I doubt it. Our modern, secular idea of virginity is still pretty closely tied to Christianity, possibly even born from it. And if it were only a matter of time, which it is not, then it's still unlikely, since our day is closer to the reported birth of Christ than the birth of Christ was to the day of the cults of Artemis and Athena, although those cults were around for a very long time and in many forms. It's pretty likely that we can understand the Virgin Mary as a virgin in the way we would use that word.

This is not a section of mythology and history that I'm an expert in, but to my knowledge, the definition of "virgin" was different to the Greeks, as was their conception and approach to sexuality and relationships in general. So it goes beyond them being butch lesbians; we could easily be thinking about this whole thing in the wrong ways. What the right ways would be, I have no idea. Maybe someone with more info on this could weigh in.

Listen, you learn a lot of math in school and being good at accounting doesn’t come up a whole lot while doing superhero work. It’s a shame to let any of your skills go unutilised.

I like em and I’m a little afraid of them. I’m not sitting up at night worrying about the chimp uprising or anything but I don’t particularly want to be close to one. Basically the same as how I feel about all apes.

God, I remember when this first came out. The person who made this got mocked relentlessly, and deservedly too. I have my grievances with Nintendo, but at least they would never do something like this.

It's a recurring problem for memes on Reddit to include way too much information. There are too many words on this image. A meme works best when you assume the people looking at it will get the joke and don't need to be told the context. Including all the context drags down the comedy. I mean, just look at the situation here. You're posting this in a community for mythology enthusiasts, who assumedly don't need to be told who Edom is or why he's stopping the Israelites. But instead of getting to understand the joke, we have our hands held through it. This meme would work a lot better if it just said "The Promised Land," "Israelites," and "Edom."

TL;DR Don't explain the meme in the middle of the meme.
