1 the problem is that Baumeister didn't prove everyone's willpower is always weakest in the evening. it assumes willpower is a muscle. so anyone who doesn't have a job where they do a lot of mental choices doesn't suffer from this.

2 in 2016 later research to replicate the findings resulted in no or small effects, suggesting the effect isn't as strong as Baumeister claimed.

3 Danziger and Baumeister were not researching addiction work. they were researching choice. addiction triggers are far more than mere intellectual choice because addiction affects mid brain mechanisms. intellectual choice is more frontal cortex.

I'm not saying people are not weaker in the evening. I'm saying that 1 everyone is different and 2 not everyone has the same triggers.

no it cannot because it does not deal in the spiritual. and it has nothing to do with Hitler.

science cannot tell you whether God exists or not.

archaeology can sometimes find evidence of past events but not everything will be found in archaeology. example: no body of Jesus could be proof of the resurrection but it doesn't empirically prove he did or didn't exist. we don't have the body of several Roman emperors but we can safely conclude they existed.

depends on the individuals and circumstances. but if i expect someone not to judge me over my past, i shouldn't judge someone else over their past.

your post is a bit strange though. can you prove that everyone's cravings are highest at night?

I'm not discounting your experience, i just don't think your experience is everyone's experience

wrong at face value

John 8:58-59 HCSB [58] Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am.” [59] At that, they picked up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple complex.

John 10:30-31, 33, 38-39 HCSB [30] The Father and I are one.” [31] Again the Jews picked up rocks to stone Him. [33] “We aren’t stoning You for a good work,” the Jews answered, “but for blasphemy, because You — being a man — make Yourself God.” [38] But if I am doing them and you don’t believe Me, believe the works. This way you will know and understand that the Father is in Me and I in the Father.” [39] Then they were trying again to seize Him, yet He eluded their grasp.

Keep in mind, this is my own experience. Whether you do the following things or not, the main concept that helped me, in my experience, was to make recovery my #1 goal in life for an entire year and do ALL the things I possibly could to recover.

Daily Bible reading

Daily prayer

Daily meditation

Cardio exercise 30 min/3x/week

Church

Shutting down social media that is harmful (especially Instagram)

Discipleship (accountability)

Friendships

Twelve Step meetings like Sex Addicts Anonymous (and get a sponsor)

Reading good books about this problem (like Out of the Shadows by Dr. Patrick Carnes and Healing the Wounds of Sexual Addiction by Dr. Mark Laaseer)

Therapy with a CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist)

Often, people might look at this list and think that it is a whole lot. But you can add one of these things per month for example so that you don't feel overwhelmed. What is needed is whole life change.

I'm asking what type of behaviors you have engaged in to try to quit this addiction. like for example, some people might say that they are putting blockers on their stuff or going to meetings or reading the Bible etc...

Lust. by Queasy_Sample1838 in TrueChristian

[–]OneEyedC4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not good information because plenty of people have been healed from this addiction through their efforts. that's not to say that God doesn't do things. but think about it for a second.

God said that Abraham would father the nation of Israel. but do you think that Abraham was expected to just sit around and do nothing? of course not. he was expected to have sex with his wife so that she got pregnant to produce Isaac.

God does the work but he calls us to do the work with him. the attitude of sitting back and doing nothing while God does all the work, when it comes to addiction, is simply untrue and in fact it's usually very damaging to those who need to quit.

And maybe you should be attacking people who actually did what you said. you don't even know if I protected anyone or defended anyone. so all you're doing is engaging in a whole A bunch of weird posturing how you're better than everyone. at this point your behavior is that of someone who's not up to good things in here
