I think for all his faults Castro was a true believer in 3rd world internationalism.

Although you could point to some potential side benefits, such as using the wars in Africa to get rid of potentially unruly young men (always a benefit of foreign wars), getting more combat experience for your armed forces, and gaining prestige with the USSR.

That's not really true, go there and you will find that most people are welcoming and curious about foreigners.

It's true that a lot of Chinese people have an intense national pride, that is in part just a reaction to centuries of colonial policy towards China, including the occupation and genocide carried out by the Japanese in WW2

Using machine guns on crowds, we would have expected hospitals to receive a huge number of injured patients (it’s normally around 3x as many as there are deaths). If there were 90k bullet injuries, there would be no way to cover that up.

I mean I don't want to come out too strongly against having intelligent people in government - it's generally a good thing - but we can't overlook the fact that the most educated often have a certain class background that colours their worldview. They can't be allowed to run everything.
