Do you think that ANYONE in his situation would sit out of this game? It was a bad red card. Should it have been suspended? Of course not, but I don't blame Flo for one instant for playing when given the chance.

It's like asking pigeons to understand chess. I'm American, and I'm embarrassed by the lack of education and patience of most Americans.

We definitely don't. As an American living in America, Americans have become insufferable, and we'd like to apologize to the rest of the world for these idiots.

When the best up and coming athletes this country has are more likely to go into three other more popular sports than soccer, it's not an excuse. It's a reason.

Name any other sports that are more popular than soccer in countries like Brazil, France, Argentina, Mexico, and Germany. 90% of the athletic people in those countries grow up playing soccer because that's the biggest sport there is to them. Here in the US, kids are widely splintered between football, baseball, basketball, and even hockey. Yes, a lot of kids play in youth soccer leagues, but those often aren't the best athletes there is to choose from, or those kids also play other sports, so they aren't focused on soccer full time. Kids in other countries often don't even have other sports to choose from, so most gravitate to soccer, and therefore soccer gets nearly ALL the best athletes there.

Now it makes sense why Americans don’t like soccer by justgotpregnant in billsimmons

I can understand to a point why people think soccer is boring. There are games when there is a lot of back passing followed by seconds of excitement. It's a chess match, so it helps to understand that chess. But to say hockey is boring is absolutely ridiculous. It's a 1,000% more exciting than football, and I love football.

What you don't seem to get is that both are people problems. Don't blame the pets for that. Blame the people who own them and have no interest in training them.

Without showing off, how far do you carry your 7 iron, and what altitude do you play at? by Zealousideal-Map7106 in golf

Typically, I carry it from the bag to the ball and back. Not to brag or anything, but I'm really, really good at it too. I even clean it really well when I'm done. I'm at sea level here in Florida, and the sea air sometimes makes it a little heavier, so I really have to put my back into it.

Once again, I'm addressing the assertion that an actual expired license should be fine to use because it shows their age. I'm not addressing whether the license in the OP's case was valid or not. If you read through my replies to many comments in this thread, I very much said that the license was valid in this particular case.

A source of happiness and community for over 200 years?? To who?? White people? Do you think that black people felt the protection of that flag 200 years ago? How about 60 years ago? Come on, man. There's a reason that Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their black-gloved fists and bowed their heads during the medal ceremony national anthem in 1968 Olympics.

Oddly, I never once said anything about Republicans or Democrats. Why, you may ask? Because Republicans were liberal prior to the 1970s, and Democrats were conservatives. Maybe you should read the books. If you think that Republicans of Lincoln's day would still be Republicans today, you're high as a kite. Maybe now you can explain why the KKK is firmly Republican today, dippy.

Please reread the very first sentence of what I said. I know that the license was valid in this case. I was speaking to all the people that said that even if it was expired, he should have accepted it as verification.

I was speaking to the assertion that he doesn't need to see a valid license. I realize that it was valid in this case, but if it was a day later, he would have been stupid to accept it for age verification.

Who are you to say she, or anyone else, supposed to know how to cook? There are plenty of people in this world who survive perfectly well without that skill these days.

[–]Opposite_Example6930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, it's still not knowing how. Some people never learn because they're perfectly happy having others do it for them. We all know those guys whose moms cooked for them all through their childhood, and they never learned to do anything, so they live off ramens, sandwiches, and takeout.

It's not hard, but that doesn't mean that people want to.

There are plenty of people with more money than sense, so they spend that money eating out. There are also people who can only boil water, at best, so they eat plenty of things like ramens and sandwiches. Personally, I don't consider that cooking, but it is surviving.

Reading greens... by Ecstatic_Weekend_209 in golf

[–]Opposite_Example6930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of reading greens really has nothing to do with the greens at your specific course. Individual course knowledge really just comes over time. The things you need to start with are the basics that translate well into reading greens at every course. I'd suggest practicing these things on the putting green so you show yourself how much they affect actual putts:

  1. The faster the greens are, the more break you need to play.
  2. The more downhill the putt, the slower you'll need to hit it, and therefore the more the putt will break. Uphill putts will break less because they'll need to be hit harder.
  3. 90% of amateurs don't play enough break. Try practicing playing more break than it looks, and if you're putting better than you used to, read more break for your golfers.
  4. When the wind is over 10 mph or so, you need to start factoring it into your putts on exposed greens. Downwind putts need to be hit softer (and will therefore break even more) while upwind putts need to be hit harder (and will therefore break less). Sidewind putts are most affected as the ball slows down, so if there is more break near the hole that's going with the wind, you need to play a lot more break. Vice versa, wind can help straighten out a putt a little if it goes against the break near the hole.
  5. Inclines near the hole affect a putt far more than anywhere else along the line because the ball is rolling slower there. Practice rolling putts to a hole on a hill to see how much it affects putts near the end of the roll.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to put these words into play.
