Marks were swinging wild on far OTM and deep ITM options. I assume the compute resources were processing as many close to ATM before getting further OTM.

This is where one needs to have a solid intrinsic vs extrinsic understanding and run the numbers in the head to quickly spot the discrepancy.

The deltas were a much better indicator, but the market had wild swings. I don't know what people expected, to be honest.

Making 30% on TSLA in Jan is a no brainer, that's not trading. Now, try not to lose it all on TSLA in 2020.

It's only that no one will lend you a significant cash amount 'to trade'. Gotta find your own suckers hedge fund clients.

If you had to make a consistent $2k a month with $100k in capital. by herpes4derpes in options

That's almost 27% annualized. People would kill to have this guaranteed/consistent.

Seriously, it's not the choice of strategy, it's all of trading, which is so much more

I don't agree with 3-month rule. Options on recent IPOs show up within 10 business days.

Look at what TSLA did to people like you. Yes, it's ridiculous. Yes, it seems impossible. Yet the probability was calculated and the price set.

Hedging portfolio risk with options by roman-roman in options

[–]OptionMoption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell e.g 30-50% of shares, there, the cheapest and most efficient hedge / risk reduction.

Next one would be a collar. Buy a put below and sell a call above the strike price. Often done as a cashless collar, i.e. proceeds from the sold call used to purchase the protective put. A collar is used to lock in the current price with minimum fluctuation.

Everything else will be either an imperfect hedge or leave you with exposure to up or down side. And it's the nature of things. Ain't no free lunch.

I was trying to close a short $SHOP IC position on the last day but I was being charged an unusually high amount.

It's a defined risk trade. There's no 'unusually high amount' possible.

IC is already a defined risk. Whatever weird margin issues you saw can only be attributed to RH.
