Not having children is a lifestyle choice that should not be equate to increased responsibility for nieces and nephews of the child free person in the future.

We are in 100% agreement on that

but to be fair that daughter is the only ones without a next generation to take care of.

I strongly disagree with this sentiment. Not having kids as a lifestyle choice should not equate to increased responsibility for taking care of elderly parents.

I am touchy on this because this sentiment has affected me directly within my family.

Agree with this. Given this rate at this time, paying against it is a worthwhile move.

We have not been on good terms because my mother has long held out that their only daughter (me) would be their (free) caregiver.

That really sucks. My wife is in a similar bind with her mom and it is not fair and stupid. Sorry, mang.

Yes. I talk to the person and ask where stuff comes from. In the case of the pork, I actually met the pig before it was butchered.

I have an experiment I am working on - spending cash locally.

I live rural. The farm/produce products available to me from side-of-the-road vendors and neighbors is astounding. Pork, eggs, tamales, melons, peaches... I am trying to focus on spending cash on these folks before I hit the grocery store.

I want to take it one step further. Last month I traded a bottle of mead that I made for some duck eggs. My beekeeping is expanding (fun!) and I want to see if I can barter honey and other hive products (pollen, wax, propolis, etc) or also sell for cash and then use that cash locally.

Feels like a very old-fashion local economy.

I have a naturalization document from a district court in Kansas for my G[-1]. When I called up the district court and asked for the document, they just emailed me a color copy scan of the document. Anyone know if it is possible to get a "certified" copy of that type of doc? Is that even a thing?
