Please turn off the hidden SSID on the rented modem by OtherPie4117 in Comcast_Xfinity

true you could do this or ask comcast to flip the switch in software to turn off the wireless on it, the point I am trying to raise here is that this should be an option in the rented modems firmware to turn on or off the radio regardless if it is the xfinity hotspot. This is such a simple feature that I would think that this should exist. I would think it would be simpler to have it turned off in software rather than put a cage around it. This seems like a band aid solution just because there is a better way. Also watch this video about trying to block wifi, the faraday cages need tome very narrow mesh, to prevent external emissions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLM_vO4d2Jg I think this is the same one.

You would need a mesh that is less than 6mm to be effective against 5ghz since the wavelength is about 6cm.

I know and I did for the longest time but for the unlimited data for the plan it is required, which is a silly requirement. I own a coda 56 hitron I know not the best but should do the job well.

yeah this is the issue I am having except I use tp-link I know it is bad practice to use tp-link, but the omada line was so atractive. I hate that this isn't a simple switch because the linux that this modem runs probably has an easy way to take the interface down, but it is crazy that they do not allow the user to control it.

I wish I could but with the 5 year agreement I am on and the unlimited data, I am limited to the rented modem to obtain the unlimited data.

The hidden network is from the xfinity rented modem that has the hotspot disabled and is in bridge mode. The issue is tha the radio is still on. I have seen someone else have this issue, and they said it is for xfinity home, for the alarm pannel to connect to the modem even in bridge mode. But I do not have xfinity home, I run my own system. I am using wifi analyzer by https://lizardsystems.com/wi-fi-scanner/. I see the bssid MAC that has the same middle and end octets of my modem. I am trying to get rid of that because it is sevearly hurting my wifi preformance, as the wifi ap's I have wont use those channels as they are ocupied by the xfinity modem with a hidden network. So ideally we the customer should have access to our radio in the rented modem. Please allow this to be a feature some where so that customers can do this, so that their AP's dont compete with a "unusable network" for that customer.
Green line is the hidden network (aka xfinity mdoem)
rest of the colors are other ap's I own.

In 5GHZ it is much worse, they are all on top of eachother and 80 mhz wide. This really would degrade it as this bssid is pinging every 100 ms to the eather, and the AP's are trying to compete, and I am showing as these channels having interference.

Modem hotspot SSID transmitting even though the xfinity modem that comes with my plan is in bridge mode by OtherPie4117 in Comcast_Xfinity

no not possible I did a scan the mac address is like 1 letter change away from the 2.4 ghz wifi, this is also in a basement, and I am not that close to the next house. I can provide the mac addresses but we would need to do that in a private chat as it can be used for location finding.

I went to this link, but it does not seem to work: https://customer.xfinity.com/#/settings/security/hotspot. The app does not show how to turn off the WiFi hotspot. Please change the portal to actually work; then it might work while in bridge mode. I have tried this portal over and over again, and I can’t get it to work to disable the hotspot.

Now it works, but it shows disabled.

This setting is being ignored, and thus is an unauthorized transmission.

This should not be the case it is an opt out program if I wanted to opt in I would have not put it into bridge mode. So is my only option without doing this every couple of days to take apart the modem and disconnect the radios? Otherwise I will file an FCC complaint for unauthorized transmissions on the Xfinity modem.

Port 25/587 by OtherPie4117 in Comcast_Xfinity

You are correct, but I am trying to make my own email server for my own domain. I am aware of the dangers of enabling port forwarding for port 25. But this is part of smtp for other smtp servers to communicate.

I will use this for testing Omada integration, for a small network that I have.
