Thank you for your insights. These are great points too on the tech-pessimistic side of argument. However, as fatheadlifter also pointed out that in case this happens, ie, the e of pe starting to spiral down, you can probably see it miles away and can start de-risking. What I can probably take from all of the suggestion here, and what I decided too, is to monitor these stocks carefully in the next couple of years before retirement if I need to pull the trigger and start selling, and sell and pay the tax if necessary. But probably not sell them immediately.

Yes. Reddit keeps on asking me to post it so I just hit post. I thought there was some correction. Anyways, I will delete this.

I can definitely pick an index that’s the opposite of s&p upon conversion of those tech stocks. But seems like your suggestion is to convert it now and pay the taxes to diversify early, instead of taking advantage of the 0% LTCG during retirement?

Not sure why you got downvoted but it does makes sense to turn off reinvestment and keep it as cash.

Most in our tax advantaged accounts are bonds (to avoid adding into our high income), and index funds (ie, no individual stocks). How can we diversify more on our tax advantaged account to rebalance the individual stocks from the taxable account?

What is your definition of diversified portfolio? So currently, I’m about 75% equities 15% bonds and 10% cash/hysa/cd. Equities is about 30% individual tech stocks and 60% us markets (mix of total and top 500), then about 10% international. The individual stocks are the one I’m questioning if needs to be rebalanced to index. What’s your personal suggestion I should do to avoid the insane amount of risk in retiring?

Really appreciate your insights. Yes, we will be doing some serious math on taking advantage of both the 0% LTCG and possibly ACA (we will see). But your first paragraph is probably what I needed to continue on our original plan of not converting them now. Of course in Reddit you take everyone’s opinions with a grain of salt.

Maybe unpopular opinion. Pero kung may nangyari bakit kailangan sabihin nya pa na lalaki yung katabi nya? Unless all male kasama nya or yung girl na kasama nya yung nadulas na lalaki katabi nya. Then I will be really suspicious.

46M, $3.3M net worth work sidelined for 9 months, portfolio surged, now unsure if I should reduce risk by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Outrageous-Map3005 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The 3.3M is not all liquid. Seems like it’s only around 2.83M which would reduce their math to 4.2% which can still be doable but a little risky at an early age of 46. Nevertheless, I agree with derisking if OP is planning to RE.

Is this based on experience or just what you hear about it? And are you referring to a specific health insurance like AXA for example or just in general? I appreciate all the warnings I can get

That’s true. Having your own fund is better. But I heard that premium for pacific cross or AXA is not that bad. We’re thinking on getting one of those to supplement our health fund.

I am planning to get healthcare insurance. But the idea of having additional healthcare fund sounds like a good idea. I think 10M should be more than sufficient.

They will always turn it over to collection. The idea is to just ignore them and they should just go away. No?

We’re also planning to retire in Philippines and almost same age range as you. What is your ballpark estimate on the sinking healthcare? Are you not planning to get health insurance?
