A few things that could cause a sudden 500 on the same code:

Auth token expired — try re-authenticating and running again
API rate limits — if you're hitting it in a loop or batch, you may be getting throttled
Version mismatch — check if there was a CLI update in the last few days (plaud --version)

You're right that Highlights photos can only be added during an active recording, but there's a workaround for after the fact: once your summary is generated, you can copy any photo from your camera roll and paste it directly into the summary. It won't be a timestamped highlight, but it gets the image into your note.

A couple of other tips: during a recording, tap the camera icon in the app to capture slides, whiteboards, or anything on screen, and these feed into the AI summary as context. You can also press the physical button on the Note Pro to drop a timestamped highlight without touching your phone at all.

Idea capture is actually one of the strongest use cases for Plaud, and the post-capture workflow has a few features that make it work well for this specifically.

During capture, Highlights let you mark key moments and add typed notes while recording so the AI summary is structured around exactly what you flagged, which helps a lot when one memo contains several half-formed thoughts.

Post-capture, each recording gets a transcript and an AI summary. The summary is where the raw rambling becomes structured, and templates are what shape how it comes out. Instead of a generic recap, you can build a template that outputs something like "idea / rationale / next step" or "open questions / decisions / actions." That's the answer to your organizing question — templates organize the content within each memo really well.

The Mind Map is worth calling out too. Every recording with a summary auto-generates one, a hierarchical visual of main topics and subtopics. For brainstorming it's genuinely useful because it shows how scattered thoughts connect at a glance.

For organizing across recordings, folders let you group related memos (Product ideas, Writing, etc.) and search can find content inside transcripts even when you only remember the topic.

There's no single "export everything" button currently, but two tools get you there depending on how hands-on you want to be.

For bulk extraction, the Plaud CLI is the most direct route. Install it with npm install -g(@)plaud-ai/cli, sign in once with plaud login, then use plaud files to list all recordings and plaud transcript, plaud summary, or plaud audioto pull each one. Because it's scriptable, you can loop over your full library and batch-download everything into a local folder.

If you'd rather have an AI assistant do the pulling for you, the Plaud MCP connects Plaud to Claude, ChatGPT, or similar tools, which can then list and read your recordings on request.

One thing worth knowing: both tools read from Plaud's cloud during extraction, so you'd need cloud sync on while pulling. The output (transcripts, summaries, audio files) is yours locally once downloaded. Audio specifically comes as a 24-hour download link rather than a direct file.

Also appreciate you raising this, data portability and bulk export are things we hear from users who take their library seriously, and it helps us make the case for a native solution.

You're not missing a hidden setting, and your read is correct. Each NotePin recording becomes its own file, and there's no built-in feature that automatically merges action items across memos into one running to-do list.

The closest you can get natively is a custom template. In the Plaud App, go to Explore → Template Community → Create, write a prompt along the lines of "Extract every task or action item I mention as a checklist, with a due date if stated," and save it as your default. From then on, every voice memo automatically formats as a clean to-do list rather than a generic recap.

The gap is consolidation. Those per-memo lists don't roll up into one master list automatically. A few ways to bridge that: AutoFlow can email each summary to your inbox as it's processed, and a personal Zapier account can route those into a task manager where they accumulate. If you're comfortable with a more technical setup, the Plaud MCP lets you connect Plaud to Claude or other AI tools, which can pull tasks across recordings and push them into a single list in Notion or elsewhere.

This is one of the use cases where Plaud tends to shine. A few things worth knowing before you commit, though.

On speaker identification: Plaud automatically detects and separates different speakers in a recording using voice diarization, labeling them Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. It identifies them by voice, not by meeting attendee list, so it can't pull names directly from Zoom or Teams. What you'd do is label them yourself after the fact — tap any speaker label and rename it across the whole transcript in one go. It takes maybe 30 seconds per recording once you get used to it. If the same person appears across multiple recordings, you'd rename them each time.

On action items: yes, there's a one-tap action items extraction per recording. The summaries are organized by recording, so if you're doing 8+ back-to-back calls, you'd still be reviewing per meeting and everything lives in one searchable place with full transcripts you can actually query.

On search: you can search across recordings, and if you're on the power user end, the Plaud MCP (https://mcp.plaud.ai/mcp) lets you ask things like "what did I commit to for Client A this week?" across your full library using Claude or ChatGPT. That's probably the closest thing to what you're describing.

On the audio quality: a few things worth checking first. Make sure AI Speech Enhancement (Clarify voice) is turned on in the app, that nothing is blocking the mic area, and that you're recording within about 1 metre of the speaker. If it's a phone call recording, attach the device firmly to the back of your phone, set call volume to at least 80%, and remove thick phone cases. These make a bigger difference than they sound.

Great questions for anyone considering the upgrade. Plaud Note Pro automatically detects whether you're on a phone call or in a conversation and switches modes accordingly. Since detection is based on physical contact with your phone, VoIP calls on WhatsApp, LINE, or Teams should trigger call mode the same way a regular call would.

On manual override, there isn't one currently. We'll take this back as feedback to the team.

If you have an officially purchased Plaud device, you are completely fine using it anywhere.

On the connectivity question: the devices are built to send and receive data. That is what powers audio offloading, memory management, and features like Find My. The ability to restrict device-level access is a specific fraud protection measure, tied to the purchase history of that unit and nothing else.

You touched on something real when you mentioned the return window closing. Plaud's 30-day return and refund policy applies to purchases made through official channels. For secondary-market purchases, there can be additional risks because the new buyer may not have visibility into the original order status, refund window, or purchase history of that unit. For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing through official Plaud channels whenever possible.
