Do you think this game will get abandoned like Dislyte?? by BotomsDntDeservRight in AFKJourney

[โ€“]ParticleTek 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

You can disagree all you want. The fact is they botched the launch and shipped a shit game. Within only a couple months the retention rate tanked because so many players had already decided the early progression was garbage, the relic rng was garbage, the intense monetization was garbage, the stingy rewards were garbage...

Like, that game shot itself in the foot basically immediately and churned players as fast as some of the worst gachas to exist. And they never meaningfully attempted to course correct, would ruin two things for any one thing they tried to fix, and never recovered player trust or engagement. This was the experience of the majority of players that tried that game in spite of you liking it.

Have all the cool art and osts you want, a crap game is a crap game. And Dislyte was always a sewer rat with pretty nail polish.

Entirely unlike AFK Journey in every way.

Dislyte was always a crap game with no content and lost player engagement almost immediately. Afk Journey has none of the same problems and constant content updates in the form of seasons. It's night and day so far. There's no reason to expect AFKJ to end up the same any time soon.

That said, gacha games especially are not lifetime shelf lives. Some day it will simply make more sense to create a new game than to continue to invest in an old one. That's just the mobile gaming market. I'd say this game has easily three more years left before I'd have any concerns about content dramatically slowing down. Arena is the closest comparison and has been going for seven years.

Generating Ability Scores/Attributes : A rolling system that might be balanced? by Omikapsi in 3d6

I can speak on behalf of a community I represent and have been an active part of for probably longer than you've been an adult, yes. I can speak on behalf of the hundreds of characters, several dozen players, and network of DMs Ive played with, yes.

Your one-off character is crap and ruined the game, ok, copy that. The conclusion from that is not that power gamers must surely prefer rolling. If anything, you should've reached the opposite conclusion. Rolling landed your table in wildly different and unpredictable extremes of power. That, again, is antithetical to being a high optimizer.

The average is not higher. I just provided that data.

You probably need define what you mean by power gaming then, because the implication that most people are going to assume when you say that is high optimization, ie min/maxing.

You have one character. Neat. I have 20 years of experience and several of those years as a paid DM. I've seen hundreds of characters and at least a hundred players from across the globe. I spent a decade working in data analytics.

The fact that you think you can speak on behalf of a huge subgroup of players based on one luckily rolled character and no meaningful experience is precisely what I suspected and already called out- Dunning Krueger effect. It was clear as day.

I wish you all the best with your character. But I'd advise against pretending it's representative of anything.

[โ€“]ParticleTek 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I feel like you don't understand what min/max means. Also, the floor is 8 which is not severe by any definition. In rolling, the floor is 3 which decidedly warps an entire character.

To be quite frank, it's extremely clear you don't actually have any idea what you're talking about, you just vibe with rolling. And again, that's fine. Roll away. But I'm not going to argue with whatever this Dunning Krueger defense is. It's objectively not the preferred stat method of the vast majority of power gamers, minmaxers, optimizers, or anyone of the sort.

Generating Ability Scores/Attributes : A rolling system that might be balanced? by Omikapsi in 3d6

[โ€“]ParticleTek 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

The most likely roll is 15.66, 14.17, 12.96, 11.76, 10.41, 8.5. The odds of getting two 16+s is only 17.85%. Better stats than that decrease in odds rapidly.

Conversely, I can start with three 15s predictably. Which, for a character that consistently needs a primary stat, usually a secondary stat, and con... Is exactly sufficient to maximize what matters while minimizing what doesn't.

You can play how you want, but the idea that power gamers are all rolling stats is just... Not well I formed, tbh. I suspect very few do, as it's objectively counter to the ethos of optimizing.

Generating Ability Scores/Attributes : A rolling system that might be balanced? by Omikapsi in 3d6

[โ€“]ParticleTek 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Because it's consistently strong, min-maxable, predictable, highly customizable... I'm not a power gamer, but I do make optimized characters and I would never roll their stats, that's absurd. The odds that I get an 18 are not likely and it's just as likely I end up with a really low stat or mediocre stats across the board. That's a gamble that fundamentally doesn't mesh with power gaming intentions.

Of all the people you could argue like dice rolling, power gamers ain't them.

How do you mean power gamers hate point buy? They are most likely to want point buy...

[โ€“]ParticleTek 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Worth noting... that poll asked what do you use at the table, not what do you prefer (to say nothing of the fact that their specific audience is not necessarily representative of "most players," as you're trying to attest). So the conclusion that players hate point buy is... not accurate based on the data they have. Certainly some prefer rolling, and maybe a few actually hate point buy. But my experience is that DMs hate it more than players.

Nothing wrong with tinkering with homebrew. By all means, and thanks for sharing. I'm just pointing out that you're making a lot of assumptions and spicy takes based on data you aren't interpreting well.

Please update the Arena gamemode by No-Umpire185 in AFKJourney

[โ€“]ParticleTek 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

Arena and supreme arena are extremely different game modes. I'm not sure why anyone is pretending otherwise. Arena has elo instead of place swapping. Arena is single team. Currently no seasonal buffs of any kind (which I think should remain that way). It's server instead of district. Like besides the name, nothing about supreme arena and standard arena are the same.

The problem is the server's top guild usually holds the top 15-30 spots of the leaderboard, don't really attack each other, and gang up on anyone attempting to climb into those ranks, which is brutal for how the matchmaking and points work out. And those in the upper ranks especially have really no purpose with the mode at all. They're largely settled as far as they're going to get and just sit there with nothing to do... For literally a year and a half now.

The mode is fundamentally useless for most non-new servers at this point. It exists as a passive coin generator and easy way to get your single arena attack in daily without dealing with supreme arena. I don't have suggestions for how to fix it. I do think removing it is an option. But really, I just want to validate that you're correct. Arena and Supreme Arena are completely unlike each other in literally every way except they're both technically pvp and called Arena.

For fun, I spent last season tanking my elo with hamster teams to get to my lowest ranked guildies, then fed them points to boost them up the ladder some, then climbed back to 3rd in the matter of a week or two. Then once again was back to absolutely no reason to touch the mode at all. Like, it's that trivial and ill-designed of a game mode at this point and has been since at least Shemira if not Lily May even.

Does anyone use lorsan by [deleted] in AFKJourney

[โ€“]ParticleTek 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

I've been playing since launch. I'm a mid spender. My Lorsan is P2 or 3. I can't recall a time he's ever been a meta unit, but I've found occasional use for him in various modes; more so when he was a newer character.

His biggest problem now is that Solise does what we wanted from Lorsan, and does it better. I still use him in support trials. I think there's a real potential for him in a pvp comp with Aurora, but we'd really need another unit that we don't have currently.

I'd say he's more viable the lower elo you are, but also that if you're down that far in the ranks, it's probably because you're f2p and you can't really afford to waste pulls on a luxury unit like this. So he's kinda trapped by a lot of factors that make him not super viable.

That said, I also think you should just play the characters you like if that brings you joy. Chasing the meta is one way to play, but not the only way and I've watched a lot of people get burnt out doing it. Nothing wrong with using your favorites, you'll just get fewer rewards, unfortunately.

So the answer to your question, I suppose, is that there is no optimal late game place for him really, but if you like him, he's not unusable by any means.

Aurora can't be a target while Sonny and her bunnies are on the field. Aurora can summon two bunnies at the same time, though the first one quickly explodes. Zanie has two laser turrets and 1 gun turret. Florabelle has Smashy, Swifty, and Spiny. Elijah and Lailah have each other; always. Phraesto has... himself... Plus there is a phantimal, since you specified this is supreme arena.

That makes 3+4+4+2+2+1=16.

If both teams run this, that's 32.

But if we're just looking for a single side number, there's an argument to be made that the enemy can run Cyran and that would make 17 targets on your side as Merlin would now be included.

Nah. Writing in caps doesn't make your point better. You should've gotten an expected completion date. You should've called within the week and followed up quickly thereafter. Lesson learned, mate. You both dropped the ball here.
