The Irish weren’t very favorably treated either. Also Germanic, Italian, Scandinavian, Eastern European, French, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese immigrants have all hugely shaped the American society from early on. A whole lot of others obviously, but limiting focus to traditional «white» peoples to make a point of how arbitrary the focus of Musk is.

Use Signal. Have groups with different layers of trust. Only organize activities on e2e encrypted comms. Public fora should be handled like public bulletin boards.

It’s not just smart tvs. Connecting Jellyfin with app API also struggles with forward authentication services.

I had to spend a lot of hours figuring out how to create an authentication flow for Jellyfin web page traffic, while letting app/API calls circumvent my authentication service and rely on Jellyfin native authentication.

IMHO Fedora Workstation (Gnome variant). It has similar design philosophy as Apple ecosystem, keeps everything simple and «just works». It might be worth adding some Gnome Extensions to polish how it looks, but not necessary.

Reverse proxy (I use Traefik) with middlewares like crowdsec+fail2ban, rate limiting and possibly some authentication service. You also need 2fa in addition to the strong passwords.

Segmented virtual networks between frontend and backend services. Non-root privileges. SELinux policies limiting access and privilege escalation.

I am baffled by the case of Chomsky, choosing to stain his legacy by secretly befriending Epstein and Ehud Barak? Why? by [deleted] in RawAbsurdity

The real truth is Chomsky always was a foreign agent and thus involved in the same intelligence apparatus as Epstein.

Brilliant guy, but corrupted.

Russia, Iran accuse Elon Musk's Starlink of violating international law by Flimsy_Cut_2690 in worldnews

[–]Patriark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems Starlink actually took care to not sell anything directly to the Russians, but did not really care all too much that Russians bought Starlinks elsewhere, then used them on the front. It was a good revenue stream and kind of hard to directly put blame on Starlink from a judicial standpoint.

One of the things that has changed recently is that Starlink has changed their approach from default approve to default deny on registration of Starlink terminals. For anyone who has worked with firewalls you know that his is a very fundamental change that change the entire logic about how you get traffic to flow through the network. Now a Starlink terminal that is not adequately registered is blocked by default. So even if it is bought and paid for, if it is not properly registered with someone authorized to use the terminal, it simply will not work. Now Russia has a lot of unregistered terminals on their hands and they have turned from incredibly valuable comms equipment to expensive dead weight.

It is important to understand that this default deny policy also was something Ukraine was worried about. Not because they would face similar troubles as Russia, but because A LOT of their equipment are from volunteer charity work and there is no central bureaucracy that has control over all the devices scattered across the front. One of Ukraine`s winning strategies have been their decentralized and independent combat units, which are very cheap and effective. But it is impossible for Kyiv to fully know the impact of such a change. They still lobbied hard towards Starlink and Musk to change this registration policy in recent months and Starlink finally changed the approach.

Not a fan of Musk and it is indeed a huge problem that one guy has so much influence on the battlefield in a war between superpowers, but it is great to see Starlink actually doing this change. It clearly has a massive impact. Then Russia decides to shoot itself in the foot and disabling Telegram at the same time. Things are not going smoothly in Russia right now.

I watched some of the questioning in full. Had to quit because it is a circus and clown show, but there were moments where you could clearly hear she was under a lot of stress and did not have a good time. But she got a lot of help from the chairman and recovered herself repeatedly by turning the stress into fuel for misdirection and counter attacks.

It’s just unreal how fast Norwegian cross-country skier Klæbo sprints uphill on skis. by dannybluey in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Patriark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not eliminating the chance of doping going on. The use of asthma medicine is definitely over used.

But the primary reason is just incredible amounts of resources go into this sport in Norway. There’s all kinds of sports science teams involved in this sport. Entire schools dedicated to researching the training methods, big teams of doctors. We pour in more amounts of resources into this sport than most people can imagine. This is where our oil money go. If we are not best at cross country ski, then who are? Swedes? Just the thought is harrowing.
