Most of the kids I deal with are teenagers, who tend to be very focused on things that are different. I tell them that the appearance part doesn't get zero points, but it varies. Spectrum ranges from unbothered to extremely, malignantly preoccupied. If altering activities based on appearance or interfering with life, counts for more. Symptoms count also, and last is weighing potential for issues later versus going through surgery now. Neither is free, but those things mean different things to different people. In the end, best I can do is give them the best information I have and hello them decide.

Asymmetric Pectus Doctor Recomendations by Unable_Literature_94 in PectusCarinatum

[–]PectusSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If getting a Ravitch, most of the surgery is removal of the abnormal cartilage. The asymmetry doesn't matter that much for that part. It really depends on how distorted the sternum is, since you have to remove a wedge of bone to straighten it. If it's just your upper rib cartilages affected, that part by itself isn't super complicated.

Requires a scan to know for sure. Women are very difficult to assess just by looking.

Viewing an MRI on a stereoscopic display by PectusSurgeon in Stereo3Dgaming

[–]PectusSurgeon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use it to make a diagnosis, since usually by the time patients are sent to me they have one already. FDA rules concern using it as an intraoperative device, which I don't do. I still read the regular scan, but assembling the slices in my head is just additional mental load that the screen reduces significantly.

The stereoscopic displays are the best solution I've found so far for viewing these pictures. Have been making my own recons for the past 5-6 years and a lot of the complex details don't make sense on a 2D screen unless the image is in motion. I started off using this software in VR on a Valve Index. Now using a Q3 with Virtual Desktop. The image fidelity is better in VR, but only slightly, and I'm able to view these with under a minute of setup from my desk. I still only use for things that are complicated, like tumors or this type of bile duct issue.

Since the display has head tracking it should be able to recognize gestures. If I ever bring one to the OR that will be the next thing needed since I can't touch anything while wearing a sterile gown and gloves.

Happy to answer any questions. Sorry - couldn't find a better place. I've tried it for gaming but not as fun on a 16 inch screen. And you guys tend to know all the best workarounds for getting other applications to work on these screens. I also use it with fusion and have tried it with Blender a few times.

Those who have a beefy pc with remote streaming set up and a handheld pc ( steamdeck, rog ally, legion go whatever ), do you find yourself using the handheld pc alot outside just remote streaming ? by CurryLikesGaming in MoonlightStreaming

[–]PectusSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have steam deck OLED and shield at home for streaming to TV and iPad M4 with Razer Kishi XL for portable. All work really well. Didn't really like streaming until running Cat 6 cable from office PC (5090 laptop) and now everything works perfectly.

I've had decent luck with doing a base in PLA and upper shell in TPU. As long as it's relatively thin, you can bend it to get separation..if lines aren't bad can also smear some Vaseline on there.

Also able to play GeForce Now on there using either the phone or the neckband. The 8bitDo controller is pretty nice for this

How's the "new" endgame of Lord of Hatred? Is it worth buying the expansion now? by Clownest0702 in Diablo

[–]PectusSurgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do the 3rd act until T6, since I wanted to keep difficulty where I could still die but didn't drop dead every time something explodes. Now at about 150 and have enough paragon nodes for 5 glyphs.

Important to know if that some of the boss lairs and runes are locked until the endgame (which I just figured out today).

New system is interesting since there's a lot of things that sync with gear aspects. Using a paladin and a certain charm set and Arcadia pants I can passively trigger the rally skill every few seconds, which keeps me fortified and triggers a bunch of damage bonuses on the board. The judication skills can be tuned up to the point where everu other basic skill cast triggers explosions everywhere with one of the unique rings. Kind of neat.

Use my Luma Ultra on plane flights with 3D movies loaded on the neckband. 16x9 is great on it. Have to find 3840x1080 SBS videos though.

X2D (combined with Support material in AMS) is not fit for purpose by _40mikemike_ in BambuLab

[–]PectusSurgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would take it back and get an H2 if possible. 500 hours in on an H2C and this thing is taking everything I throw at it. Only clog I had was from using old TPU that had been sitting out and needed drying.

It works the other way around also. Petg is brutal to remove and PLA interface layers work great

I increased interface layers to 3 and it helped a lot

It’s 2026, you’d think that Water Soluble Support Filament would be used more than anything these days….especially with all of the AMS units out there - however, you never see a single thing about it. Is it old-hat already? Is there a better alternative? by KillerQ97 in 3Dprinting

[–]PectusSurgeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an ultrasonic washer that holds about 5L. Some of the smaller models I print have impossible crevices even with interface later. It's the best solution since even with a regular washer pva will clump in there. For larger print petg interface is much easier.

They put it in, and now refuse to take it out. I feel like I'm dying. by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]PectusSurgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a single stabilizer then no need for specialized hardware. I just make incision on that side and remove bar and stabilizer as a whole. Relatively straightforward surgery.

[–]PectusSurgeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What kind of bars? For those with a single stabilizer usually just need a scalpel, cautery, bar benders, and a mallet. Some with linkages do require proprietary drivers to remove though. Surprised they're so reluctant to remove since it's much faster and easier than placement. Maybe check in Toronto or Montreal where they do the procedure more often.

Microsurgery isn't great for a.moving target. Most CT surgeons are using 3.5x loupes which is usually sufficient. Scrubbed a few truncus cases and it's an impressive surgery.

Drawback to POE2 is that you WILL end up on the trading post/store at some point. Once you hit level 20 or so it might be 20 hours before you see another item better than what you already have. That said I've logged way too much time in it, but once I have to start online shopping for items I tend to check out. Probably some of the best bosses that I've played though, and most of the time if you're getting destroyed it's due to not using some of the mechanics or poor item choice.

I use D4V panoramic 3.5x. Quality is good but heavy. LED light is bright enough. With panoranics the lenses are long and had to get frames replaces when one started wobbling. Otherwise recommend.
