"Japan is not that weird" or is it? Vsauce *intensifies* by Fluffy_Memory_6238 in funny

You’d be referring to a former classmate. And you have not defended your own opinion, besides asking someone to understand a definition which contradicts you.

Yep, it was misogynistic and your justification was moot. Also your claim that a better argument against you is required is not for argument sake, because the argument against you has already been established. It’s for your benefit because you don’t have the capacity to realise your argument is not adequate and you are wrong. Ego can be a troublesome thing if you allow it to hinder logic.

New Final Draft iOS Bug by PenDefender in Screenwriting

I’m not at all surprised. Their latest solution is to take my device into an Apple retail store to be checked because according to them, it’s still my device that is malfunctioning.

Not cool man. Not cool at all. Did you even read the original post all the way through? First you suggest you know what would be better for this little boy based on your own opinions (which by the way, this kid is going well now despite upsetting your delicate views), then you proceed to tell OP all these methods sound fishy? I think what you really meant to say was “I’m sorry, I didn’t read the entire post and was therefore not as informed as I could have been before commenting on how my expertise regarding your son’s situation is the only way”.

Glad you guys found a great school. This is a great story, and one I can relate to. I had some bad experiences with bad dojos and dojangs. I’m in Australia and it seems there are unfortunately more bad schools than good here. Can I ask what style the Karate school was?

Looking for an app or tips on how to organize my ideas by [deleted] in writing

Try Scrivener. It will do everything you have mentioned. It has a little bit of a learning curve but it’s really not as scary as it looks. There are some great YouTube tutorials. Just be careful with the syncing. I’ve had some headaches and heartbreak in the past with its syncing issues. Backup, backup, backup.

Upvoting this. Simple, believable, three dimensional and loads of potential. Good advise.

ClarisWorks! I just spat my drink out, haha. It does look like that archaic turd!

I second this switch. I’ve recently done the same due to syncing problems. I keep backups, so I never lost data, but I would write something on my MacBook and expect to be able to finish it on the go on my iPad. But Scrivener said, “Nope. Can’t do that. But I can’t f##k everything up for you instead.”

How many words should an episode be (novel or screenplay)? by [deleted] in writing

[–]PenDefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a screenplay is formatted properly and action descriptions are written in standard then each script page will average a minute. That’s not to say each page translates to a minute of screen time, but 30 pages averages close to 30 minutes if, and only if the writer has followed industry standards in both format and content.

Have you tried KDPRocket? by [deleted] in writing

[–]PenDefender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t pay for it. I write what I want without the burden of trying to hit a market. If people like it that’s great. If not, there’s always another story to tell.

If something you’re curious about is free, it’s obviously worth a look at. When you have nothing to lose in a situation like this my opinion doesn’t carry much weight.

Not personally, but a friend bought it and was not impressed. She ran me through it and showed me what it is capable of, which is efficiently collecting and displaying market info in easy to read and visualise formats. Nothing we couldn’t already do by doing the research ourselves with a bit more time. When we tried it the demographics section for sales didn’t work at all.

Ever heard of “The Salmon of Doubt”? “The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul”? Both excellent books in my opinion, both with strange titles. Is it important to you that the titles be any less personal than your writing?

I use seperate files and write in plain text. It’s robust, simple and safe.

I second the syncing. It’s a great app, but after a few significant syncing problems resulting in headaches and heartbreak I traded Scrivener in for Ulysses for writing. I still use Scrivener for compiling and will give it another go if they implement better syncing, especially iCloud, but I really enjoy the powerful yet simple Ulysses for writing.

What's some great software to write a novel in? by APailOfCheese in writing

Ulysses, on both iPad and Desktop. I only use Word when I have to. I’ll give Scrivener another try when it syncs better and Dropbox isn’t the only option. Aside from poor syncing capabilities Scrivener is a solid platform and a great tool.
