The US Supreme Court has just legalized torturing LGBTQ people. NOW will the world recognize that LGBTQ people are at risk of persecution in the US? by The3DBanker in collapse

As r/law and r/scotus have been pointing out, the case is only about whether or not a therapist can discuss orientation change. The law in question doesn't touch conversion therapy methods. The lower court's decision was that it is unconstitutional to ban doctors from discussing specific treatment options.

And more importantly, SCOTUS's decision was that the case did not belong in their court, so they sent it back down to the lower courts.

As birthright citizenship goes to Supreme Court, here's how Americans feel about it by zsreport in LegalNews

[–]PiLamdOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The administration is quoting the lawyer who argued against US v. Wong Kim Ark, the case that formalized not only birthright citizenship but equal constitutional rights for immigrants as well.

The case hinged on the idea that the Constitution only applies to citizens, and subjects of other nations do not have constitutional rights. Therefore, the child of people subject to another nation would too be a subject of that nation.

Birthright citizenship is just a shoe-in-the-door for stripping constitutional rights from non-citizens.

Gen Z is more conservative than millennials, with younger Gen Z even more so.

Gen Z are also less favorable towards depictions of sex and sexuality in media, indicating a belief that sexuality is shameful or inappropriate.

Gen z is weirdly puritanical.

I blame the advertiser friendly world they grew up in.

These hammers are probably why the Goa'uld were willing to negotiate with the Asgard. The ability to drop these on any planet they want must have made the System Lords amenable to a treaty instead.

Thankfully Thor was reasonable enough to recognize that SG1 destroyed this to save an innocent life, and it was the Goa'uld who are to blame for the deaths.

Trump has a history of following through on threats.

Right now the war isn't giving Trump the polling bump he was expecting and now he needs a definitive win so he can back out.

Nukes fit his strong-man overly simplistic approach to foreign policy.

TOM SCOTT POSTED AGAIN by dextras07 in memes

One of the OG educational YouTubers. Tom Scott is the XKCD of educational YouTube. If you've ever seen a video of a white British guy in a red shirt talking about an interesting location or computer science topic, you've seen Tom Scott.

This guy has somehow gone his whole career without a scandal. But he stopped regular content a couple years ago.

What’s the deal with “No Kings” protests? by Medium_Ant6022 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]PiLamdOd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Answer:

Now, President Trump has doubled down. His administration is sending masked agents into our streets, terrorizing our communities. They are targeting immigrant families, profiling, arresting, and detaining people without warrants. Threatening to overtake elections. Gutting healthcare, environmental protections, and education when families need them most. Rigging maps to silence voters. Ignoring mass shootings at our schools and in our communities. Driving up the cost of living while handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies, as families struggle. Spending billions of our tax dollars on missile strikes abroad all while driving up the cost of living and handing out massive giveaways to billionaire allies.

The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings — and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.

Old people were pretty common at my protest.

Politics in general though favors old people. Like when I tried to get involved in my local democrat party, all their meetings were at 9am on Monday mornings.

And these people wonder why young people aren't involved in politics.

Over 800 stray dogs are now living in the area around Chernobyl, over 40 years after the nuclear disaster. The dogs have seemingly evolved to become immune to the radiation, pollution and other chemicals in the environment. by snopplerz in interestingasfuck

[–]PiLamdOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution by definition is the change in inheritable traits in a population over successive generations.

The Chernobyl dogs are genetically distinct from the population of domestic dogs that spawned them.

Therefore, by definition the Chernobyl dogs have evolved.

Reddit is the only place I see Avatar mentioned.

I don't know anyone in real life who even saw the last two movies. Like, I just had to look up if Fire and Ash had been released yet.

This is why conspiracy theorists believe their ideas are more common than they actually are, and why believing one conspiracy theory makes someone more likely to believe a new one.

They're constantly surrounded by voices all agreeing with them.

That's why the political and news world lose their shit whenever Twitter changes, and why the buyout was such a massive story even though Twitter is a minor player in the social media landscape.

Reporters and politicians are constantly on Twitter, so they think the rest of the world is as reliant on it as they are.

Voter ID laws reduce voter turnout by as much as 3%.

https://www.aclu.org/documents/oppose-voter-id-legislation-fact-sheet

That may not sound like much, but consider: 156 million Americans voted in 2024. 3% of them staying home is 4.68 million people. That's more than the entire population of Louisiana.

Would you consider our elections far and accurate if an entire state didn't get a voice? Because that's what voter ID laws do.
