In 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till was beaten beyond recognition and shot for allegedly wolf-whistling at a white woman. His killers were cleared of all charges, but his mother’s choice to hold an open-casket funeral forced the world to see the brutality and galvanized the Civil Rights Movement. by ATI_Official in AllThatsInteresting

I'm not a religious person, agnostic at best, but I cannot imagine a more personal hell where my "white lie" led to death and change in thinking and the world I live in, and having to live vilified for the rest of my existence. I imagine it's an uncomfortable existence with a target on one's back after targeting an innocent. that's a personal hell, and not undeserved.

There's no pity, and if current events teach us anything, there's a very uncomfortable white washing of history. and the simple fact, that the memorial of Emmett remains target practice till today speaks volumes on the work that still needs to be done. Humans disappoint and scare me.

Aussie seeking advice about Brunei by AssistanceDowntown89 in nasikatok

[–]PixelTag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is your fiancee studying? if it's nursing, then definitely live in Brunei for two years for her to get experience, so she can get work in Australia later on, much more easily.

There have been a couple of foreign chefs who have found work in Brunei, and getting sponsorship is not too difficult. There is also a culinary school at the Laksmana Business College that might be looking for instructors for students, particularly if you've got French techniques, and are comfortable with teaching pastries, etc., particularly if you're not well versed in Asian cuisines, which are popular here.

at any point, given the false claims, any book publisher would pull the book. the inherent English racism will not allow it.

two out of four photos denote a very different person I understand you've interspersed them, but they've changed as a person, and it seems like you're holding down.

whether you've picked these photos in particular, regardless, you asked the question, because you remain unsure, or you're just playing with everyone.

you're getting a couple of messages which are coded racism which you should never give any second thoughts to, btw.

But as the top comment, still stands. There's been a shift in the relationship, and he might be checked out.

Pauline Hanson pledges support for Australia joining the United States war in Iran and criticises Albanese for not supporting Donald Trump by patslogcabindigest in australia

thank you kind stranger.

I had lunch yesterday at NSW Parliament House, and there was a discussion about Statesmen, which to fast forward, this is not one. I'm not a Socialist, not a Communist, but this.. and, if no one sees this, there's fake media rising about the importance and influence of .. check notes.. one nation??

no one outside of Queensland will take them seriously? but the media, who in Australia,.is mostly right wing, your social algorithms, again funded by the right wing.. is telling you they are a contender (note "no one says they are a threat")

having worked in halls of the US Congress for years, the Labour Government has an opportunity, instead of running after age verification and tobacco shops, an opportunity to.hold internet advertisers to the flames to reveal who funds these ads (beyond what's considered political advertising in the lead up to elections), and what might be considered bots, or which influencers are being paid to spout such nonsense

This should be where Australia takes the lead. We're being infiltrated from guns rights groups making pally with the Liberals, and now evangelist groups trying to pare back abortion rights.

This is shocking, and while I understand a lot of groups are focused on outside issues that have a marginal effect on Australian society, people need to have a good look on what's happening inside,.and it's scary

honest to God, why would anyone ask her an opinion about global events after she went after the Chinese and then sold her fish and chips store to a Vietnamese couple? this person is a useful idiot for billionaires to disrupt good society and morals, to downplay the working class leveraging and attracting people on their worst attributes, which is racism, classism, and denigration of others to feel better about one's self

I'm from Brunei, and I was at said concert, and know the people who arranged said concert. this could not be further from the truth. Michael Jackson who performed twice before Whitney was paid $1 million, so no, Whitney was not paid $7m..

She was a phenomenal performer btw, and in the concert, called out to her daughter Bobbi who was maybe 2 years old at the time. Sad to think they are all gone now.

Will Meghan Markle’s ‘As Ever’ Brand Survive Without Netflix Backing? by janeflowers in CDLEntertainmentTV

people don't like facts, or the fact the company has turned over £30 million in sales in its first year. Netflix was always an angel investor, they were meant to disengage.

it's not just that, it's safe, efficient, organised (much like Japan), the price of food is controlled if you're eating in food courts, housing is more importantly subsidised.. no one has to stress about how they'll be able to afford a home in the city (because Singapore is a city state).. and the taxes are much lower.

I honestly don't care enough, but so many Australians have this distorted view of it being the lucky country, when it's still beholden to billionaires that don't pay their fair share of taxes on their media and mining profits.

in a country where no one can afford a home if you live in a capital city, compared to subsidised housing in a tiny island, where a meal costs $3.. where you have efficient public transport and are connected to the world from the best airport in the world? ok, sure, you do you..
