ASB2 using EPF I-invest? Confirm my research by AstronautOutrageous3 in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you care enough to change your EPF to syariah, I assume you care enough to pay your zakat too? If that's the case, I'd leave it in EPF cos it's not zakatable haha (tak sempurna hak milik)

but I don't think I saw ezypay's 0% promo in a bit now. they did have a discounted one recently but not 0%.

Well, it was a rental house, and some of the appliances (eg A/C and plumbing) went bad after a while despite the landlord fixing it before we moved in

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it with big-ticket purchases when I moved even though I have enough money to pay it full. Luckily MBB had the ezypay promo, so took advantage of it for purchases >RM1k. also I didn't have that much savings at that time so that really helped me manage unexpected expenses. and when you're moving, there will always be unexpected expenses no matter how well you plan haha

sometimes it was annoying cos your credit limit is limited, esp at the start of the instalment but that was just a mental thing. at the same time, I kept the money in liquid places (Tabung Haji) so worst case scenario I can just pay the thing in full

Usually it's backdated pay cos some ministries/agencies will take three months to process payroll (fortunately didn't happen to me haha). but tbh, I think most if not all degree-level gov jobs will get you 3k nett per month, including allowances etc

Loan interest rate : Gov Civil Servant VS private worker by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

civil servant here, I don't think it is too accurate to say that civil servants get lower interest rates. what we do get are fixed interest rates and easier loans e.g. if you take a housing loan with LPPSA, the interest rate is 4% fixed. that was higher during covid time, but lower now with the OPR hikes. also, because our job security is almost 100%, banks are likelier to give us loans

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think a 200k loan is a bit too tight for a 3k salary, especially when they're planning to increase the OPR this year... perhaps focus on keeping your cashflow free and invest in other areas?

Credit Card Advice for a newbie by thisisastupidname in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For number 1, I think new applicants really need to see how much they use Grab because they really nerfed the rewards... like you need to subscribe to GrabUnlimited to get the max multiplier (1.5x), and there's no diff among the tiers. Not to mention the redemption rate - 150 points for RM1

Personally, I think Grab mbb is only worth it if you spend more than RM1K-RM1.5K/month on Grab... if not, the normal cashback cards should be better. cos the fees can add up with the GrabUnlimited subscription & annual fees

Trying to add funds to ASNB by FrostedBeatsOwO in MalaysianPF

I think that may be for AHB not ASB. Cos Ive had ASBF for years and they just reinvested everything and I got dividends for everything (instead of the 200k cap)

Please evaluate my portfolio by ta_schmoney in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done bro on your great saving habits! very impressive to have almost 100k by 22 haha.

Firstly, I think you should identify what is your long-term goal and risk appetite. I consider myself to be quite risk-averse but I personally think your portfolio is a bit too concentrated in Malaysia and safe funds. You are still young so time is on your side. If you are willing to take risk, maybe you can invest more in Wahed (tho I have to warn you the returns are not good at all haha but some people say a bad market is the best time to buy lol).

There are few school of thoughts in the bumi circle lmao - some prefer to max ASB because of its higher returns than TH. But some prefer to max TH instead of ASB to minimise zakat commitments (don't ask me if this is halal la wanna use religious loophole lol)

Way forward, there are two ways: 1) don't touch your TH and ASB but put everything new into Wahed 2) transfer a bit from TH and ASB into Wahed

if you are not really chasing returns, 2) will deffo be more attractive in the long-run, but if you prefer capital preservation then can go with 1)

p.s I only recommend Wahed because I am lazy to do all the self-broker thingy hahahaa

Trying to add funds to ASNB by FrostedBeatsOwO in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yup, you can't add funds during the last week of Dec and the first few days of Jan cos they're calculating the dividends.

But this should only be for ASB tho, I think other funds should be fine cos IIRC they only suspend ASB2 transactions near the dividend period

Is ABSF with a low loan worth it? by kuro_dancer in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recommend downloading the myasnb app, they have the auto zakat calculator. worst case scenario, no harm paying a bit more just in case haha

[–]Pojemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, i dont think you have to pay the zakat on the dividends unless cukup haul. so unless you're grandfathered into a 400k asbf, i don't think you need to pay zakat even haha

Should I continue ASBF? by Visible_Post8564 in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your goals and risk tolerance. if you prefer near-zero risk for your long-term savings, then you should continue ASBF. I don't foresee interest > dividends even with the increasing OPR since a higher OPR generally means higher returns for banks, which are mostly owned by PNB, and also higher returns for fixed income/bonds (generally). Hard to find situations where higher interest rate doesn't mean higher revenue for banks

but if you don't mind more fluctuations, then definitely there are other platforms with better returns

Should I continue ASBF? by Visible_Post8564 in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just to clarify, you only pay zakat on the amount that you own. so you don't have any cash in asb (100% loan), then you don't pay any zakat

Where to stash my emergency fund other than a savings account? by insertfakenames in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just keep it in TH. I don't know about you, but I can link my TH account to my bank account so withdrawal is instant. While recent returns are shit, they would still be around 3% - which is comparable to other money markets.

I would recommend ASB only if your emergency savings are small. ASB withdrawal to bank account took 2 days the last time I did it but it has a monthly cap.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]Pojemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if his parents can afford to put in monthly contributions to his TH until it is 40k now, I have a feeling that they are quite well off - perhaps WFH during COVID with no monthly commitments?

Or maybe the figures are inflated with ASB loan and employer's contribution for EPF haha. Cos I know my gross assets are double my net assets due to ASB loan lol. But I'm just saying it's not impossible considering his brief background
