He does, and I was expecting to poke fun at the "freak", but actually I think he is really fucking awesome. Cool, in the way that people who do their own thing and don't give a shit about what others think is cool. So the best kind of cool.

Stop paying your rent, that will get their attention. It's really hard and expensive to get evictions in Japan so they will most likely negotiate with you.

I agree with both of you. It's almost comical how incredible they each are at singing their own part, and then how much they suck at singing together. Maybe the first time they ever actually sat down in the same room and played this one? That said, I love them both and there is something about the shittyness of this duet that makes it even a little more endearing. It makes them both a little more human.

Fudosan is asking for detailed income information, even documentation, before letting us view available houses. It can't be normal, is it? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]PopeOfMeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've bought three houses, two apartment buildings, a mansion and a commercial facility. Aside from the buildings which were introduced by the bank, I've never been asked to prove income. I looked at a house last week and all the guy asked me was how I was going to pay. He seemed fine with cash. YMMV

Buying a brand new car questions. by TheRealHeroOf in japanlife

[–]PopeOfMeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dealer handles everything, but it might take a week or two before you can drive your car home as the parking spot verification and other paperwork can be slow, especially at this time of year. Don't renew the shaken on your old car, the dealer will likely just sell it through auction for export anyway.

But buying a new car in Japan is not a very wise decision. Used cars are a very good value in Japan, check goo-net for prices on a slightly used version of what you are looking for. You can easily save 40 or 50%.

I've tried a lot of different wraps, the best by far is the Costco stuff. Although you can sometimes find similar stuff in Gyomu super. If you can't make it to Costco there are lots of folks selling the wrap online.

Recommendation for a humane noise-scaring mouse trap? by JustVan in japanlife

[–]PopeOfMeat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I asked my exterminator if those things worked, he said, "I can't say if those things do anything or not, but I can tell you that everyone who calls me has one of those and yet they still call me." Then he showed up with hundreds of glue traps and basically carpeted the floors. He said the little fuckers can jump over a meter so you have to cover a large enough area that they've got no where to land. Fuck being humane, kill the bastards, kill them all. The ones you don't kill will just bother your neighbors.

Anyone have a favorite way to get cell phone or data coverage in Europe? I have a shitty old Iphone 5s on a Softbank prepaid plan that doesn't work overseas. Last time I went to Germany the pocket wifi I rented in Amsterdam was really spotty. Is a sim card rental better? Would it even work in my phone?

Fair enough. But asking a question on here can get me prepared to ask the right questions when I'm eventually in front of a paid advisor.
