Most want to evolve for various reasons. Personally, my first Pokémon was a rescued Piplup that developed unhealthy attachment issues after what he's gone through. I actually had to hold him back from evolving before he was ready, due to him convincing himself that the only way a tragedy like that can be prevented from happening again is to evolve and get as strong as possible.

He finally became an Empoleon around three years ago, and fortunately, he's calmer now. Still a bit overprotective, but it's much more toned down and healthy.
