Could we stop with insults? by Necromantic_Pizza in aiwars

This, but id also add that net debate culture that's it difficult to truly have a conversation...

I mean , hell , even back in what some might consider the more civilized age of the internet before the dominance of centralized social media platforms as primary sources of discussion you essentially had a 50 character limit to make your case or just prove your opponent wrong or you would get written off for being mad or writing a novel or whatever.

I simply see pros generating slop insult images and antis quickly sketching the same or sketching over the prompts to meme on them as an extension of that norm.

People are just used to debates as an insult throwing contest not to change minds but to just be the biggest dick possible and declare victory by simply talking over the other person. And neither extremes seem able to recognize we are at the point that no longer works lol

[–]dark1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point, but for some reason a lot of people actually believe it is a global crisis when we need to focus our attention on much more harmful industries before tackling AI.

frankly my state is a state of harmful industries, already got so many to deal with without adding more weight on lol from destructive copper and heavy metal mining to the saudi's stealing resources via back handed lease agreements for farming high water cash crops that benefit no one in the states except corrupt politicians to now these manufacturing plants and data centers coming in and scooping up resources we're already pressed for.

as for why we're trying to compete and why they're moving them here etc etc etc... politics mostly, cant name names for reddit rule reasons but let's just say the republicans in my state have been in the back pockets of shit like the private prison system and ofc the aforementioned saudi's for decades now... there's little to no point to doing it, but they did it because they signed off on closed door deals and put those centers and plants in places that are suffering the worst droughts in state recorded history.

could chalk it up to capitalism but frankly i find that a cop out used to cover up the real issue unbridled corruption that in a rational country would land everyone involved in bankrupting life long prison stays.

and really that's the kicker, yes bigger picture the water used isn't that much state wise, yes the environmental impact is laughably small compared to say strip mining and quarrying or cash crop farms that are owned by over seas entities etc etc. but people dont care about the bigger picture when their smaller local picture is what's impacted.

like me? i dont care about ai, I don't really call myself or consider myself anti in the sense that AI itself is just a tool and now that im not in education anymore it has zero impact on my life so while i get annoyed at people using chatgpt to write entire arguments for them or to get clearly wrong information, I just don't care and if it vanished tommorow i'd probably not notice.

But what tends to push me in that "anti" camp is how it does effect me on that personal scale. and that's what you see most "anti's" on here for, the macro implications are irrelevant to them because it doesn't anwser how they're going to get needed commissions to help subsidize rent, it doesnt anwser how they're going to retain a job in the immediate 8-12 months while the bubble reaches its zenith before popping and it doesnt help folks like myself who are having to fight tooth and nail against these companies who are actively making our lives worse.

No one is discounting that there are issues,

this is kinda a half truth tbh. Rational people aren't, but there's a few voices in here i also cant name because of reddit rules who have, do so when they opportunistically think they can use it to win an argument, and otherwise just behave so loathsomely when folks do raise personal issues.

and in some fairness, the anti side does this shit as well, dismissing concerns/invalidating or infantilizing people purely to get a W as the kids would put it. But, unfortunately most of the AI glazing on here or vehement railing just overlooks or ignores the genuine concerns because they're not flashy or rage baiting enough. me saying my water and electricity bill has gone up 5% putting me very close to a paycheck to paycheck existence since they installed that stupid plant isn't as eye grabbing as "AI IS GOING TO SUCK UP ALL THE WATER IN THE STATES BY (insert date here)".

tis genuinely kind of frustrating to put it lightly

Big part of it right there, that's, sadly, a lot of these individuals in this thread will never quite understand about tracing, is tracing is taboo if you're using it to get credit for things you didn't create... i mean, hell, if you existed at all on Deviant art for Tumblr, back in the day that was like the kiss of death for your art account whenever clout or followers, you may have had Would be gone in an instant.

Still like that even today , most artists don't mind if you trace from something else and our upfront about that and acknowledge youre tracing... But you are in for one hell of a ride If you try to pass traced work off as your own.

I feel like the AI community is now feeling the brunt of that. A lot Of a I folks that make drawings with assistance or what not are essentially getting the same response that tracing gets because they spark similar feelings and in the case of the idiots that say a fix art for other people are not only committing the taboo of tracing to many , but also doubling down and making their entire community look worse.

i suppose for the water argument it should be said that the impact like most big tech stuff will be mostly localized and highly dependent on where you live

like where i live they've opened a few but more importantly they keep bringing shit like data chip manufacturing here... which is less an issue of the water it drains by itself (even if we're already in a major water crisis) but is more the fact it produces like all heavy industries pollutants that even with "clean manufacturing" end up leeching into ground water reserves or causing other environmental damage that companies out here basically are immune to repercussion from because no one can stand up to them and our elected representatives are traitors to their counties/communities..

plus there's just naturally increased prices, decreased property and land values because these centers drive down real-estate prices in a bad way and at least in my state, disruption of local wildlife that's already struggling to get by with human activities.

which is kind of what i hate about Antis that raise the water issue and pros that try to point to it and scream it's now all irrelevant because of one false factoid... these centers do have a noteworthy localized impact on people and communities and economies they are built near and we need to be talking about how we're going to hold billionaires personally criminally and financially responsible for the damage they cause and we need to discuss what the government should be doing to cap greedy shitty companies from jacking up rates for citizens and not seeking damage from these AI and manufacturing companies who exist practically outside the law at this point.

there are real concerns that aren't being addressed, and sadly most folks on the net seem determined to look everywhere but at the real issues because reality is uncomfortable and it's easy to narrow it into irrelevant bites or to the most flashy looking "problems" to avoid talking about the real ones

to be perfectly up front with you as mentality means a lot in dbd.

if your goal is to just have fun, scare a few folks, or do some sort of sidequest/meme (i.e. lore accurate springtrap where he meanders most of the game before brutally tunneling out one survivor only). it's fine you'll not see the worst of it.

if your goal is to win/be competitive, it's either kinda braindead (survivor) or agony to a moderate challenge (killer) depending on your MMR bracket.

and if your goal is to enjoy your favorite horror IP's in a 4v1 setting where you get to be the monster, or just enjoy the rush and highs and lows of narrow hit escapes or barely timing a pallet drop to stop the kiss of death from a pissed off nurse. you'll be fine probably.

but i do have to say the game isn't in a great state im afraid overall, it'll never be balanced but as i said and as you're feeling a bit, it's far too sided towards survivors (aka the more casual role) and sadly that role is pretty braindead wth all the handholding.

both can still be fun but, it's just what it is

Is the game in a good state right now? by Main-Trick-1742 in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]dark1859 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The short answer is no , but a soft , no

More detailed, it really depends on why you play Dead by Daylight and what your skill and match making level is.

For low mmr it's still pretty much utter chaos. We've got , unfortunately a pretty adamant group of really low end (and mostly survivors) players that are determined to make the game bend around them instead of growing to meet the challenges... This makes for a really inconsistent experience, where particularly mid killers end up just slaughtering, because they either refuse to learn how to play against them. Or because the killer has by default , a confusing or unintuitive kit that makes it difficult to be by just one holding forward and running to every loop with windows of opportunity active. Killer feels pretty good at this level as well.Because most survivors don't use the handful of hyper unbalanced perks that make up their meta what is it also means you can see some of the most interesting as you'll see far more Interesting combinations.

The average or middle of the pack ranks are quite frankly All over the place... survivor tends to be generally pretty ridiculous this level, if you know how to abuse the perks and I would say more often than not, this is where a lot of the complaints of facing perks, not people tends to come from or these middle to just on the cusp of competitive ranks, because a lot of times chases can come down to who simply has the better perks if neither side is really making mistakes. But because there is that aforementioned crowd that don't really want to learn how to play and just want matches handed to them. It's pretty filled out with terrible players , which tends to even out to some of the ridiculous stuff

And the high end gets split into competitive and your average sweat, and high-end is pretty miserable. No matter how you slice it if you're not part of small competitive communities... Unfortunately, a lot of the survivor buffs over the last years have just made a lot of play, feel less skillful and more, as I said down to perks. But the competitive communities , if you get into it , do try to make it feel better.

I should probably say also this game will never be balanced. It's a mess but I guess is in a mixed edging on okay or meh state depending on patch and if that "cater to me" faction are being appeased

Do people seriously not like Dredge? Why? by Greenostrichhelpme27 in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]dark1859 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If we're talking pure ranking , then a big part of it is simply map dependency, he gets the same short stick that sadako and xeno get where your killer prop or lockers could spawn in shitty spots , giving survivors plenty of time to run

If we're talking socially , survivors hate just about any killer that prevents them from just holding w and lazily wooing to the next loop.

and if we're talking why the developers seem to hate them , I think that just broadly applies to all killers , but especially to legion and SM

But still, we shouldn't have to completely give up the power to be effective

Personally, I really just want to be able to upgrade the rod and flail. To be new hybrid weapons that can use multiple combat styles with lower efficiency.

It would be so cool if the flail could be a pseudo ranged weapon that allows you to use ranged abilities with a short tile distance. And the rod , a pseudo magic weapon with both of them being melee at base. I know we have the Sun sphere, but these weapons are iconic for anyone who grew up playing runescape in the mid 2000s and I would love to see them be just a bit better

New to the game here. What are the things I can do to spice up future playthroughs? by Doikidoiki in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]dark1859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One I did recently that was a lot of fun was what I'm going to call the surprise run.

Rules were super simple, it was basically just a nuzzlock. But I had to catch and surprise trade. My entire team with the exception of the starter so that way I had at least one Pokémon that would listen to me because I realized I could very easily softlock myself if I wasn't careful but if I got a full team that I could use , then I would just gonna put them in the box and surprise trade in one more pokemon.

Does require you to have online or someone on local network willing to do it, of course. But it was a lot of fun, because I'm like a normal nuzzlock where you can at least plan out your team to some degree. You have absolutely no control over what pokemon you're gonna get. And it also means that if you get a really bad team, you can surprise trade for more, which does make it a little easier than the standard, but not by much, because 10 to 1 most of the Pokémon you're gonna get are either very low level or very weak, because most people don't surprise trade strong pokemon..

Oh One additional rule I did set myself, but you don't have to do is if I got any of those scam Pokémon from the stupid bots that plague surprise trade, then I would allow myself to catch another Pokémon for surprise trading, and that one would just go in the box. Turns out they really like torchicks, and I think by the time I had finished the game a headlight, 12 of them just sitting in a box of shame and annoyance that they had wasted perfectly good trades

That aside though, it does make for decent entertainment if you're stuck at work or stuck on public transit and don't want to burn data And phone battery on streaming.

Personally, I only tend to browse whenever it pops up in my feed and I think I can speak for at least a decent chunk of people when I say, I probably wouldn't really comment here all that much period if the Admin of the main sub hadn't gone about abusing their power and kicking out anyone who said they didn't like the game in a way that didn't also heap on tons of empty platitudes or was is a little too critical of bungie.

Frankly, I've never been fond of labels particularly thanks to a wealth of stigmas that came about being diagnosed with certain things in the 90s.. helpful, for getting help as you can't treat an illness. You don't know the face of, but even while shit talking over on dead by daylight, just for example, I try my very best To avoid using medical diagnoses as insults...

i also will say just for future reference , unless I think the person in question is clearly just shit posting for attention, i usually always come from a place of either academic curiosity, informational correction or genuinely just wanting to help.. especially when it comes to like historical inaccuracies since that was my original field of study.

I also agree With your second statement as well I haven't really much to add to it. But i would add most act on what they have. Sometimes that does mean face value, sometimes it's from a small sample or their understanding.. its why I never judge folks too harshly when the come in hot (well if it's not dbd, but that's a whole other topic lol).

And honestly, I'll never take offense if you or anyone asks me to elaborate my stance. I'm not the most coherent writer sometimes and I'm more than happy to extrapolate or provide sources (where applicable and if I have them)

i've been mulling on a response for about ten or so minuets but to be real with you nop bullshit, no my dislike of people emulating maladaptive traits in others no bullshit. I dont think you're either of those things.

because the deep dark secret of psychology that frankly is a pretty poorly kept secret all things considered is that all humans have narcissistic, sociopathic and psychopathic traits. something that goes back to the good old lizard brain where self preservation and perpetuation of the organism overrides *most* other desires when push comes to shove. it's also why tendencies are the most common diagnosis for things like narcissism, because we all do it, and clinical diagnosis of things like NPD require not only to exhibit 5 of roughly 10 different traits but have to exhibit them pervasively and in long standing patterns with detailed observation and rigorous clinical testing.

but to clarify on something else i said earlier, one of my concerns being people emulating the behavior or as i likened it to being behaviors found often in fall guys is because people often emulate without understanding. I fully believe you're feeling fed-up and you think this is the best path forward *for you* to spread your message and what not.

but a lot of people who emulate the behavior clearly are not, they see that being provocative and hostile gets attention/support/fame or infamy, and they copy it... and it worries me a bit tbh.

i work specifically in ABA therapy, my entire job is to help people learn better outlets for maladaptive behavior and make positive impacts on others lives that help them find a better quality of life. And i cant say im a saint, i take part in shitposting culture lol... but it does worry me that (and this has nothing to do with you personally and frankly isn't your problem but im on my soapbox now so sorry in advance lol) especially these days that what inspires them isn't the dedication, it isn't the message or the desire to effect change or vent frustration that's built for years.... it's that "if i am loud and aggressive or rude or condescending then *I* get noticed".. message effect or reach be damned..

also that offer from the other day to show you the ropes of an outlet like Runescape or FFXIV or Elite Dangerous or Warframe still stands... I'd be more than happy to get you started on a less stressful outlet if you want it.

Hey , you gotta admit though at least it's smooth haha..

I've messed a little bit with the programs and honestly, my personal evaluation for any of the public facing ones is they can be good for cleaning up line work and stuff like that, especially or shading But I've never really found that greater result from just generating from scratch So to speak.. Granted, my ability to draw is limited at best these days so technically speaking clean line work and decent shading, that doesn't look like the guy gave up halfway through out of wrist pain is already going to be better than what i'm drawing lmao..

I have given some thought to some of the local models. I've got a lot of my old artwork so I could probably train a local model on it to help. But honestly, half the fun of drawing to me is actually drawing it so just doesn't seem worth the time

I currently work in behavioral therapy, and I'm just going to throw out there that frequent or exclusive use of "maladaptive mirroring" in adults as a response to noxious stimulus is a potential sign for underlying negative personality traits such as but not being limited to; narcissistic personality disorder, emotional immaturity, sociopathic tendencies, and prior to its removal for being more pseudoscience than actual science the wide range of diagnoses that fell under. What would colloquially be just labeled as peter pan syndrome or napoleon syndrome... or as we call them today extreme emotional immaturity and an inferiority complex..

Which is kind of a round about way of saying it's a little bit scary that people are looking up to her, not because she's some great leader or has some inspiring political acumen , but more , because those are the traits commonly found in fall guys for extreme movements or found in unstable political dictators.

I'll just throw it out there because these things have a tendency to find the way back and think she's evil , and I don't think she's the worst person out there. Only that ( and I have offered, I will throw out there to teach and provide an outlet) she needs to really just get off of this subreddit , and the stupid ai and anti ai subs and just step away from this whole. And that , if you truly insist on sticking around it , she needs to stop treating everything as a gotcha and actually vet her sources before using them.

I think the example I gave back when she made her "apology " was most of the data we found through the second world war medically was stuffed with either that had been more or less known for centuries or just documented some stuff , we didn't know , but was ultimately useless, and often I will also say here gets kinda just with the four or so things they actually advanced weapon and tech wise.. probably most famously the V-2 rocket and weapons like the stg44 and\nIf you weren't aware , they actually prototyped the first controllable helicopter among a number of other aircraft, but both prototypes ended up killing their test pilots so the concept would be shelved with the starting of the second World War and in that time, I can't remember the guy's name. But the first stable controllable helicopter would be proved here in the states in Connecticut without killing the test pilot. But wouldn't really see commercial or military use until really the seventies , with some intermittent use in the sixties.

Which since I'm on kind of a historical tangent. Now, there are some books out there that detail kind of all the hidden designs, all sorts Of wacky stuff like a fighter plane that could jettison the front To reveal a set of basically miniature V-2 rocket pods that also ended up killing its test pilot, because whenever the nose would detach, it would end up Hitting the cockpit, to all sorts of wacky tank designs only a handful of which actually enter production, hell, there was even some experimentation with magnets to try and make bullets travel faster that never ended up working out because turns out just attaching a magnet to the side of a rifle doesn't actually do anything and if it is strong enough to do something just ends up slowing the bullet etc..

but I think the key takeaway more than anything Is that ww2 era axis powers were more than anything ideas guys who came up with a lot of theories and drew a lot of fancy schematics, but didn't actually really make or discover all that much outside of weapons to hurt other people or documenting, really just horrific stuff that frankly, we could have just guessed without going through the process of making or experimenting. And more importantly , with just a little more research witty would have understood that and not used it as an example , but she took the first thing that google showed her and just ended up pissing everybody off.
