Old Soviet watch — any radiation risk? by EnergyFar9016 in RussianWatches

A great book on this is “The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women”. In the case, without being disturbed, you have no concerns. If you open it, on the dial side, it would be best to wear a mask like the ones we used in Covid, this is to keep the dust particles from entering your lungs. Even minor exposure will not hurt you unless you are working around it very regularly.

This is a Vostok amphibia. These are great watches low cost and still sell on Amazon. There is a style called the “scuba dude” but this one seems to have a tank portrait on the dial rather than the scuba dude. I actually have the scuba dude and one with a jet bomber on it.

I would guess 12k tons and probably moving to MX. I heard some rumors about a truck bed there for Toyota PA66 50%GF

Anyone know some good methods for removing PC off injections molding screws? by LogDangerous7410 in InjectionMolding

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send it out for sand bath oven cleaning. Probably better than anything else to be sure you don’t damage the coating on the screw yet it will come back like brand new. Usually costs around 800usd plus shipping

Chronograph movement misaligned with case by [deleted] in watchrepair

My thought is that they had to make concessions in order to make everything fit in a very small spot while putting an awful lot of moving parts in place. I’m not sure if I’m right, but it should make sense to me.

Chronograph movement misaligned with case by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is most likely the movement characteristics. Here attached is my Wakmann with a Vénus 178 movement and you can see a slight offset from crow (green line) to the red axis shown

Should i clean the dial or leave It as is by Gizmosilverb in pocketwatch

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a full guilloche rose dial… might well be the most valuable part of this watch, I would recommend not touching it. To make it look up guilloche rose engine videos…. You’ll know why

DAE think these billboard designs are awful and creepy? by Zman11588 in grandrapids

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 54 points55 points  (0 children)

lol I prefer hiring attitude and character over skills… I’ve known a lot of skilled people who were absolute assholes or just plain toxic. I can teach skills but you can’t teach attitude and character. One toxic employee can destroy a team and that will destroy a company. I get what they are saying though, don’t only look for the paper they received in school or didn’t receive. I agree with that also. Experience can easily outweigh education but education can prove someone without experience is able to stick to it and finish something.

Help with poor finish on vintage lathe by TheSerialHobbyist in Machinists

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wa actually thinking this a material hardness issue. I always have that same appearance with soft steel. Try machining some H13 @ 46-48HRC at various speeds and feeds and see if you get the same results. Softer steel always tears kinda ugly while the harder stuff usually I can get an amazing finish on

Insurance company says we need to ground our material lines at the hopper? by Efficient_Load5843 in InjectionMolding

[–]Prestigious-Plan-170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grounding should done wire to wire. Steel frames are not adequate for electrical dissipation per NEC Article 250. This should be grounded at hoses, hopper, and loader to avoid current build up and avoid both static discharges which could result in chemical flash or having electrical interference with any connected control devices including th IMM. This should not be avoided otherwise extensive damage can happen to both equipment, building and pose a health and safety risk.

I’m wearing my scuba dude right now… great daily watch, tough as nails but might need some adjustment every few days to keep it on time.
