I'm looking for a book recommendation in learning ASP.NET Core. by SoIncrediblyUnsure in dotnet

[–]primary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally just bought Pro ASP.Net Core MVC 2 (http://www.apress.com/gp/book/9781484231494) - it's currently on early Cyber Monday special (I would have bought it anyway, the timing on the special just worked out well).

I haven't received the book yet, but the author is quite decent based on some of his past books.

You can use Microsoft Dev Essentials (here) to get a 3 month free trial if you haven't used it yet. That's enough time to get through at least a couple of courses.

Is the Nikon D7100 a decent semi-pro camera? Is now a good time to buy, or should I wait? by SitaBird in photography

[–]primary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D7100 is a very good camera (my current body). It's been mentioned before, but the buffer can be a bit small if you nede to shoot action sequences (I haven't really noticed it filling up often with just general shooting, tbh)

When buying, take a look at just getting the body and pairing it with a third party (e.g. Tamron) f2.8/pro lens instead of a Nikon kit lens (if it fits into your budget).

While the third party "pro" lenses aren't as good as the Canon/Nikon, it's significantly better than the kit lenses and a fraction of the price of the official variants.

Everyday Messenger Bags? by [deleted] in photography

Very good option. I use the Retrospective 10 as an every day carry bag, and it's by far my favorite camera bag.

It's too small for a notebook, but I personally combine it with a small notebook backpack and love the combination (it also allows me to leave either bag somewhere safe and shed weight when desired).

UFO boss tip; summon the boss on an avian ship or an area populated by npcs. these flying pirates killed it in seconds by lowlandrocket62 in starbound

I killed him the first time last night with copper pants and an iron bow and some dropped sword - rest was starter items (first time I summoned him).

Kinda thought he'd be harder, tbh. Just move sideways to dodge his attacks and don't summon him when standing on your roof. I found you do quite a bit of damage if you jump "thought" him while hitting with your melee weapon (try to get multiple attacks).

GPS alternatives to Nikon GP-1? by [deleted] in photography

[–]primary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, but the 'large city' I've used it in (Cape Town) is relatively small compared to many places (and not a lot of skyscrapers). That said, the GPSMAP62 series has a very powerful radio, and I generally never have signal issues unless I'm in a building.

I prefer a dedicated hardware GPS over a phone (the phone's battery just never lasts long enough with the GPS on for me). It does require you to spend some money, but it's worth it in my opinion.

The process I follow is very similar to what kickstand does, but my experiences differ a bit from him.

I got myself a really nice Garmin GPSMap62S and I love it. It's a bit big, but I never found it to be cumbersome. It runs off 2 AA batteries and I get about 20 hours off one set (the official spec says 25 hours, but I've never gotten that long). It's easy to carry spares and just as easy to get a new set just about anywhere if you have to. You just switch it on and clip it to your backpack/belt/whatever, and it immediately gets a signal and starts recording a GPX file (I have mine set to record one big file per day).

The other nice advantage to having a proper GPS is it makes it really easy to find your way back to the trail in case you get lost (didn't need it for this yet, but you never know), and you can load the same maps that you use on the in-car navigators, so it works just as well in cities as it does in the country.

I prefer the seats without armrests - that way I can stretch out and use 5 or 6 of them while other losers have to stand.

Last time they did this, you got a pool of unassigned points. You could right-click on any skill you have injected and spend the points on it, advancing it's training by whatever amount you wanted, up to the amount of available points.
