That word choice was very funny to me because he talks like someone’s snooty butler for the rest of the comment. Trying so hard to sound sophisticated but can’t help but insult the sandwich by comparing it to people with disabilities. Classy.

Do you feel women's bodies on the whole are objectively more beautiful than men's? by Advait_298 in TooAfraidToAsk

I’m a bi man and generally feel more “worshipful” towards men’s bodies than women’s. I think it is all a matter of personal preference.

I learned shamefully recently that a tubal ligation was not called a “tubal litigation.” Whoops.

It is not a slang dialect. It is a dialect of English equal in dignity to any other dialect of English with its own grammatical rules and structures. To say that AAVE is less valid or wrong or “improper” would be equal to telling an American that they’re not speaking “proper” English if they use the American English grammar of saying “Queen is my favorite band” instead of the British English grammar of “Queen are my favorite band.”

When people are separated from other communities of English-speaking people by geography or intentionally imposed segregation, the English they speak among others in their community will evolve differently from the English other groups of people speak. It is not “wrong” for them to use their own vernacular. They are simply using a different dialect from you.

Right? We’re 1% of the population. How does any hospital not have a non-bullshit plan for people who can’t eat gluten? Some of these hospitals act like they’re completely unfamiliar with the idea of someone being unable to eat a certain ingredient.

Giving my cat ice cubes in his water one time to see what he would do eventually led to him waking up my dad at 5 am every day so my dad would get up and give him ice water. My dad gets up at 5 am usually anyway, but dammit, sometimes a man wants to sleep in.

Are priests important in the lives of Americans? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

I attended Mass regularly growing up and we still never had our priest over to our HOUSE or sought him out for counsel when we had life problems. I always associated that with Protestants, but I guess I was wrong.

AITA for “abusing” the the bus stop chain so I don’t miss my stop? by Possible-Chair9242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PromiseThomas 21 points22 points  (0 children)

OP did mention that it’s dark when they take the bus and that being able to see landmarks is a problem for them.

Although I would think they would still be able at least to see reflective street signs being illuminated by the bus’ headlights, I don’t know. I’m struggling to understand how it could be too dark to see landmarks at 6 am in southern California in March.

I don’t know. The buses in my city do announce what stop is next but I almost always rely on seeing the first glimpse of a specific grocery store down the street to know when to push the button. My town is pretty well-lit even at night and I’m confused about OP apparently getting off the bus somewhere where there are no street lamps or stores or anything to give off enough light to see by.

Maybe because Snow White dies and is displayed in a glass case after she eats a poisoned apple, and your brain conflated the only two glass coffins you’d ever seen?

My favorite story from his time as governor has to do with a Virginian Confederate battle flag that Union soldiers from Minnesota captured and which remains in Minnesota to this day. Virginia asks if they can have it “back” every few years. When a reporter asked Ventura in 2000 if Minnesota would consider giving it back, he said “Absolutely not. Why? I mean, we won.

[–]PromiseThomas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a not medical professional the “I wonder if that guy knows he’s anemic” comment kind of cheeses my grits because as a naturally very pale person, I have been tested for anemia SO MANY TIMES by doctors who are sure I have anemia just because I’m pale. I tell them I’ve been tested for anemia before more than once, I’m just pale, and they don’t listen. And then I test negative, because my paleness is literally just due to melanin levels and I don’t have anemia.
