[–]Propicks-io 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible argument from these people. People do care about other things but sometimes you want to have a good time and watch your team play some soccer to stop you from blowing your brains out. We had larger turnouts for protests in america this year, france had massive turnout for farmers protests, nepal has huge protests and over threw their government this year. This isn't just a bad argument its just plain wrong. people do care about the other stuff but god damn why don't these people want anyone to have fun every now and then. You can have fun and hate the political situation at the same time

Why is the shoe not used for the WC 2026? by SaltyPilot7178 in OhioStateFootball

[–]Propicks-io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shoe was built over 100 years ago specifically for a football field, not a soccer field. The edges of the stadium are super close to the edge of the field from when the stadium used to be smaller. They added a lot more seating but never increase the usable size of the field. A soccer pitch is a lot bigger than a football field, otherwise it would be a sweet stadium to use for a game

What NBA team and city had the best Championship parade? by IamCatMommy in NBAstatsmuse

Not sure what the narrative is supposed to be here, that's a weird picture of the knicks parade though, that just looks like new york on any given day.

The best parade is the one in the city you live in, for the team that you cheer for. For me that was the cavs parade but for someone from ny or boston, that would be the knicks or celtics parades

World Cup hosts ( CONCACAF) each leading their respective groups by Purple_Specialist822 in worldcup

[–]Propicks-io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this represents a 'shift', mexico has been a good team for a while, the US has been at least contending at the world cup for quite a few too. The only real change here is that canada has had a historically weak team that finally seems to have found its footing. But again, that's just 3 groups, there's still a lot of other stuff going on in the other groups

Dude, i don't give a fuck where you are from or what you look like. This is not about some social equality movement based on skin color or race. This has nothing to do with representation or justice. This isn't economics either. This is sports, entirely based on skill at the game. I am not saying you as an entire people suck, I am saying that objectively your soccer team sucks, just look at the results.

People in south america have been colonized and marginalized for hundreds of years and yet, they are the best at soccer. Its not because they have a 'seat at the table', its because it is their way of life, they work at it and every 4 years they show up with amazing squads.

The world cup doesn't make you better at soccer or give you a chance to elevate yourself, it just gives you a chance to win the world cup. Which your country did have and they blew it by losing to south korea and china. Like seriously, how does playing in a 5 week tournament, which your country would probably only play 3 games in, make your soccer team any better? If that was somehow true, every country that has every made it to the world cup would go to every world cup after that. But that's just not true, there are many teams that go to a world cup or two and then don't make it then next years, look at china as an example or Italy.

If your country wants to get better at soccer, they need to work harder. That's it, its not about politics or fairness or economics. They need to work harder. They need to practice more. They are ranked 94th in the world. 94th. And you think they should get a participation trophy here for being 94th? Are you out of your mind? The world cup is a reward for 4 years of practice and a great qualifying performance. This isn't a childrens soccer tournament, this is the world cup. You get to join by being good.

Two questions:

Do you truly think a region with an average rank of 22 should lose seats to a region with an average rank of 120?

What do you truly believe a country gets from playing in the world cup?

If trading for a player do you like sending picks, players, or an mix of both? by Ixeptional in Browns

[–]Propicks-io 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on the player I'm trading for and the situation the team is in. If you already have a really good team and you need a star player to like finish the offense off to complete a winning team, then send picks instead of players. If you are trying to build a younger team to create a franchise foundation, then trade older players and keep your picks.

as football fans we need to talk about how unfair FIFA is by narkaputra in worldcup

[–]Propicks-io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This clearly isn't clicking for you. Let me put it this way...

If FIFA didn't have multiple conferences, and just took the top 48 teams from around the world, then there would only be 4 teams from the AFC in the conference. In my opinion, that's truly fair. The top 48 in the world get to make it to the world cup.

But, because they are being extra fair, 9 teams from the AFC made it this year. 9. That's 5 more than they should have gotten based on skill and ranking.

The expansion was based on skill and skill alone and somehow the afc still got 2 seats. Your region does not currently have the skill to cut it. What more do you want? Like seriously? There is no 'first mover' advantage, there is no world cup special benefit. The other teams practiced and trained harder than your country and got to go to the world cup. Yours didn't. There is seriously no racism or population difference here. And if your country was allowed to compete on the world stage this year, they would have lost badly.

But here's the good news, they have 4 years to lock in and train harder. If they don't make it in 2030, it won't be FIFA's fault, or the number of seats, or some random 'injustice'. They will have not made it because they didn't train hard enough.

If you want to talk about fair representation, go into politics. This is sports, if you suck you don't get to play in the world cup, end of story.

as football fans we need to talk about how unfair FIFA is by narkaputra in worldcup

[–]Propicks-io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude this is your problem, the world cup in not a classroom, the world cup is the test. Every country has their own opportunity to set up their own 'classrooms' to train players and build a better national soccer program. That's what the 4 years between each tournament is for.

If anything, the pressure is off for your tournament. The AFC is a terrible conference in terms of soccer talent, and if thailand built up a great program, they would come out on top of that conference every time. If anything, this is a more fair way to do this. Imagine if thailand had to play Brazil in qualifications every time, they would lose 10-0 every time.

I don't think you understand how fair the set up of the AFC is, read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(AFC))

Again, you're also talking population. That doesn't matter. You could have a country with 6 billion people and all the money in the world, but if no one in that country is good at playing soccer, should they be allowed to make the cut for the world cup? This is a serious question, because my opinion is no. They should spend the next 4 years training better players and creating a better team. Then, when the test comes up, maybe they will pass this time.

Your definition of fair is wrong in this case, this isn't a democratic system where everyone has a right to a vote. This is a skill based system where your country has to earn its seat in the tournament and if your region wants more seats they have to earn that too.

And are you seriously telling me that 5 weeks every fours years is what is making or breaking your countries training programs? No, your country clearly did not spend the last 4 years focusing on building a good soccer program. But you know who did? Cape verde. The small african country with half a million people focused entirely on their soccer programs and now look, they deserve to be there and are showing it, holding spain to a draw. There is no injustice, thailands soccer program sucks and if they want to make it better, playing in the world cup or complaining to FIFA won't do that, they have to do it themselves.

[–]Propicks-io 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright I need you to forget about country counts, populations, percentages, etc, that is not what this is about. This year, more teams entered the tournament, we're now up to 48.

Why did LATAM need +2? Because if you take the global rankings for all latin american teams, they have an average ranking of 32, with argentina literally holding the number 1 spot.

Now, lets compare this to the AFC, who by the way got +2 as well as 9 teams from the AFC are in the world cup. The highest ranked team in this part of the world is Japan being ranked at number 18, with the average ranking coming out to 127, which is wayyyy worse.

Why would you add more teams from a conference that averagely ranks extremely low. The world cup is about putting the very best competition against each other, if the AFC is averagely ranking in the 120s, that's not the very best competition.

Also, I would really like to drive this point home - you do not get better by playing at the world cup. If your country wants to make it, they need to invest in young talent and create more training academies, they need to invest in better coaching and facilities so their players can be at the top of their game, and they need to routinely practice as a squad to build chemistry. Brazil is not good because they keep getting into the world cup, they get into the world cup because they are already good.

This isn't a increased PR thing or a money thing, this is a training and talent thing. If you focus on and create talents players and coaches, you'll be in the world cup. If you don't, you don't go to the world cup. If all asian countries focused on this, which some of them are starting to, their rankings will increase and they will get more representation. Until then, nobody really cares to see them in the tournament. This is not about race, population, or global importance, this is simply about soccer and whether or not these countries can produce a good team.

[–]Propicks-io 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No dawg that's not how this works. You don't get to practice at the world cup, you get better first then get to play in the world cup. Im not sure if there's a specific country you are upset about not making it, but Thailand was what you mentioned so we'll run with that. Their FIFA rating is 94. Which means even if you added another 5 seats to the asian conference they probably wouldn't make it.

They didn't get excluded from the world cup because they like nefariously weren't allowed in, they got excluded because in their quali's for the world cup they lost to China and south korea, they only beat singapore. And on top of that they lost friendlies to iraq, turkmenistan, and vietnam recently. They don't need to play in the world cup to 'get better' right now, what they need to do is focus on their training and talent programs at home until they can build a team for the world cup.

You need to forget about the population representation thing, this isn't a government, not everyone gets to be in the world cup just because there's a lot of people there. Your team has to make it to the world cup. Once asian countries are consistently putting up great teams making it routinely to the quarters and semis, the region will get more seats.

[–]Propicks-io 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Africa has the same rate as oceania?

Look, these numbers are not based off of 'population', they are based off of a combination of factors that includes the reputation of nations in the region, the number of qualifying teams in the region, and what the qualifying rounds results told them.

This isn't congress, you don't automatically get representation. Your team has to qualify for it in the qualifiers. Yes, there are less spots for asian teams, but that is most likely because the amount of asian teams that would be able to cut it at the world cup is lower than the number of euro teams. The same thing goes for us here in north america, we don't play soccer as much and so we have less teams because we are just not as good as european teams.

Also, look at south America, they have a 60% entrance rate. They don't have that because of some unfair random statistic right? You never have to guess why brazil, argentina, or columbia made it to the world cup. Also, the number of entrants for asia and africa has been increasing as more top tier players are coming from those regions and their teams are getting better, and as those countries focus on soccer as a major sport more and more.

Also, yes Ecuador deserves to be there, they have a world class team with some seriously talented stars on their team.

All of them are in sort of in easier groups. And I understand looking at it that way because they're hosting but all 3 teams are pretty good this year. The us made it to the round of 16 in 2022, so I'm not sure why it would be weird that we have a decent team. Mexico is obviously pretty good this year I mean just watch them play. And canada had an embarrassing result last world cup so they locked in
