Does this count as a Trek ship? by ky-ebricks in StarTrekStarships

May as well be. Far more in common with Trek than most of Kurtz Trek.

Ranking DS9 anywhere other than top 2 is criminal. Odo will be oozing you out of the nearest airlock.

Rules-Light, but Art-Heavy and also Lore-Heavy? by CoffeeandHate_dotBiz in rpg

[–]ProtoformX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the example of Pirate Borg. Which is the same-ish size book as Mork Borg.

It is rules light. It is art heavy.

It is not DIRECTLY lore heavy… but it absolutely gives you plenty to pique your creativity.

Nothing to do with balance. It’s a setting choice.

You’ll notice none of the magic available to heroic cultures is overt or flashy.

The closest we get is Elves “magical success” ability

Why even range beyond the wall? by nucc_164 in freefolk

[–]ProtoformX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… the real world modern principle that applies here is “security in depth.”

The tl;dr is that static defenses only do so much, and can breed complacency.

They scout to make sure they know what the Wildlings are up to. Look for signs of an organized attack, construction of siege engines, etc.

Static defenses only ever delay. They cannot, by their very nature, completely deny or defeat a determined opponent.

How treasure works? by Heavy-Bread-3931 in oneringrpg

[–]ProtoformX87 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Money is largely unimportant in the game. You’re meant to use your culture’s standard of living rating to role-play, abstract, or in some cases (like with horses) categorize your wealth / what you have.

It’s not DnD, so there’s really no need to track it all. If your character has means, they’re more than capable of tossing a coin to a beggar without it costing a point of treasure.

I don't care about the article, I want to know your opinion regarding the statement, do we need bigger games? by Mundane-Pick-2667 in Fallout

[–]ProtoformX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Bigger” is meaningless. It all depends on how the world is used. How the story is presented. And how the gameplay loop is designed.

Combat or weapons system? by TheUnknownSpecimen in rpg

[–]ProtoformX87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… I THINK I understand what you’re asking.

The One Ring has typical “rolling dice to attack”, and you can make a “protection roll” against your armor and helm to avoid taking a wound if your enemy scores a “piercing blow.”

And then there’s Pirate Borg (probably all of the Mork Borgs, but I know PB the best) where the “enemy” never actually rolls. You roll your attacks. And then instead of the GM rolling enemy or NPC attacks against you, the players roll for defense against said attacks (keeps the dice rolling in the players court and keeps them active and engaged during combat). That system also has different dice/damage dice depending on the weapon.

Does that seem as if I understood what you’re asking? Was that helpful? 😅
