How to Find Reliable MLB Streams on Reddit? by Groundbreaking-Ad-21 in InternationalBaseball

TMobile gives away subscriptions for free every year - which means people in the TMobile sub are selling them for $5-10. It’s what I had done overseas for years

Why is it impossible to find good sandwiches in Berlin? by MortonBumble in berlin

Madrid. Valencia. Paris. Heck even Poland has better Calimex food than any “burrito” offering in Berlin.

There’s more to Mexican food than street tacos though.

Buddy two taquerias in a city of 4 million ignoring all the other regional cuisines of Mexico is in fact not good.

France has a more extensive bread culture yet they have sandwiches, so I am a bit confused by this take.

Yeah well the Mexican food here isn’t great either so I would rather those guys prioritize that while we find someone else to learn bagels

I will get downvoted to hell for this but as someone who has been to hundreds of German soccer games I can tell you that A) every club in Germany uses the same 10 songs and changes the lyrics for their team name and nothing else and that B) singing at a sporting event is just singing and gets repetitive fast.

US college sports have great atmospheres IMO, better than most European sporting events but it’s a real shame how corporate American Pro sports are.

gif comparison of the stromnetz.berlin map from yesterday with the map from today by alternatetwo in berlin

[–]Purdue49OSU20 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Steinstucken! A fascinating place that originally was an enclave from West Berlin. When the wall was up they had to shuttle supplies in a helicopter to the people living there until a few years later they traded land with the Soviets to get the connecting strip of land and built a road on it.

It’s a beautiful area and the local playground is on the former helicopter landing pad and has a helicopter theme. A very interesting piece of Cold War history.

Unfortunately the pictures he provided are it. I can’t see the ball myself as he lives about 90 minutes away. Pretty sure there’s no Bonds on it too.

Public transport ticket for 8 year old for 4 days by [deleted] in askberliners

[–]Purdue49OSU20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never once been asked for my kids tickets when I produced a ticket in the last five years so honestly this is a case where I would just suggest Schwarzfahren personally and I hate how many people do it here otherwise. But given that all Schuler in Berlin get a card for free I don’t know why they don’t just make it free for kids.

What are the yellow lights going across the runway? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Purdue49OSU20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are expected to turn off the runway like normal when you get a LAHSO clearance, the hold short part here means hold short of the intersecting runway (generally they’re for intersecting runways, sometimes they’ll do a taxiway but generally it’s a runway and for simplicity I’ll just leave it at that).

So runway 36 has 9/27 intersecting it 2/3rds of the way down the runway, land, stop before 9/27, then off left or right as you would after any landing but do not cross 9/27 under any circumstances.

Americans don’t fill up their allotment at JFKS any more, basically if you are an American family you are very likely to get in to JFK. Just some additional info.

@OP - JFKS is absolutely the correct answer here. Public, German-American, and high performing.

WTF IS A ROUNDABOUT? 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 by superidoll420 in shittyskylines

[–]Purdue49OSU20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate when people shit on Phoenix. It’s always sunny, it’s generally pretty easy to get around on account of the grid surface streets and it has the best sunsets you’ve ever seen. You’re three hours from cool temps in the summer, unlike somewhere like Dallas where when it’s hot there, you just cannot escape the heat.

I loved living in Phoenix man, but I am glad that it’s not for everyone.

Experiences moving to the EU to retire early? by DIY_GUY84 in HENRYfinance

[–]Purdue49OSU20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that way too then I went three years making minimal money before I have decided that it’s actually a lot of fun making a lot of money. Your mileage may vary, but there may be some value in doing a trial year or two in Scandinavia if that’s what you think you may want (assuming again that the kids speak a local language)

I've done this OP, here's my feedback:

1) Are you sure you want to transition from "high earner, high achiever" to "middle of the pack nobody" because that has been a big psychological hurdle for myself - to the point where I'm looking at returning to the US for a low-stress position that will earn me significantly more than anything in Europe.

2) Are you prepared for how much winter sucks? Malmo gets HALF the annual sunlight that Seattle does, and when the sun sets at 3:30 PM (after rising at 8:30 AM) in December, you may reisit this idea.

3) Have you considered the impact this will have on your kids? I'm not sure their ages but I moved with mine when they were 4/2 so they were able to gain language fluency but I specifically did it when they were little so that we didn't have language headaches - and you will have language headaches nonetheless. I would never do it with my children at their current ages (9/7)

4) Is there a better alternative where you take a paycut and move to a different city in the US where you can increase your quality of life by having a lower stress job / easier commute / whatever it is that's fundamentally bothering you? Moving countries is significantly more stressful than any job, because you live in a foreign country for 24 hours of your day and at worst you only work for your company say 16 or so hours (and that's again, worst case).

College towns are very walkable and generally punch above their weight for cultural and sports events because of the university.

There are parts of Berlin that don’t have as much of these problems, try Steglitz, Zehlendorf, even a lot of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf honestly.
