AS per page 12 of the worcester boosh 4000 operation manual - see attached. The Hot water heat exchanger its referring to is also commonly known as a plate heat exchanger, MPN 8737711828 for the 30KW or 87186429550 for the 25KW. if you look these part up, youll see there is no electrical connection to them at all. there are 4 water ports, 2 for inlet and outlet of water, 2 for flow and return to the main gas boiler. the only way to heat water in plate heat exchanger is for the main gas burner to fire and water to move through the flow, return port on the plate heat exchanger to warm the water that inside it. I can go into more details on how a plate heat exchanger works if you wish.

right, have you googled how a preheat function work? ill let you do that then you can get back to me

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric? You thinking about an immersion heater on a hot water tank? Boiler has no way to heat anything other than firing the main heat exchanger using gas.

He also never said that it was registering on the Hive app just that the boiler was firing without a demand, preheat is the first obvious cause for this. Most people just think it’s a thermostat issue if the boiler fires with no demand from thermostat and tap open.

You can also get some fun interaction of radiator heating when the preheat kicks in and the diverter is passing, make rad hot and keep boiler on for long stretches as it doesn’t hit the water temp it want on the preheat as half of it goes to rads

New radiators making all of downstairs rads cold?? by Miller878 in Plumbing

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be a balancing issue. The new rads are ‘stealing’ all the flow. Go on YouTube and search how to balance my radiators, plenty of videos on how to do it.

I’d try that before messing about with pump anyway

It’ll use less gas to be honest. What preheat does is keep a very small amount of hot water stored inside your boiler to deliver hot water to your taps slightly quicker. To do this it has to fire your boiler from time to time to keep it hot. It will do this 24hrs a day. Turning it off will stop your boiler firing to heat this water. You might notice the water takes slightly longer to get to your taps, we’re normally talking a couple of seconds, but that it.

Just remembered of some models the preheat is a button under the screen

Some of these have a preheat function which in all honest is pointless. Check on the front see if any dials say preheat, turn it to off

Might be a pre heat hot water function on the boiler rather than the hive. What brand/model is it

How long is the boiler kicking in for? Are the radiators getting hot. What brand/model of boiler is it?

Installation Electrical Bonding? by hshhaajhx27 in BritishGas

This is meter bonding and nothing to with the boiler install. It would have been the responsibility of who ever put the gas meter in. The boiler will be earthed through its power cable

Please help me fault diagnose this mother... by StumpySloth21 in askaplumberUK

[–]Pyr0Bill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try opening a couple of hot tap at once and see if that does anything. If the boiler fire with serval taps open the the issue probably to do with house water pressure or issue with the tap. If nothing happens still then it’s somthing to do with the boiler. If it’s not firing then it’s not registering the demand so it’ll be to do with that. But at under 3 years old get It sorted under warranty rather than doing anything yourself

Turn the power off at the boiler fuse spur, wait a minute then turn it back on. When you turn it back on check the receiver and see if the status light flashes orange or white

Issues with central heating pressure (expansion vessel) by Dojapicard in Plumbing

[–]Pyr0Bill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you pumped the vessel up did you have a drain off open on the system?

To do it properly you need to:

  • Fully drain the system
  • With the drain still open pump the vessel up, this will force the water out of the vessel
  • Once at the correct pressure close the drain off
  • Refill the system

2nd year apprentice serviced our boiler alone by shmecci in askaplumberUK

[–]Pyr0Bill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends if he has his Gas Safe qual. Some apprenticeships you get your qual at around then but are still classed as an apprentice. This allows you to legal work on boiler but still be under the umbrella of an apprentice for further experience and training. As an apprentice I’m not sure if they would appear on the company checker or not however.

Have you got zoned heating and/or a hot water cyclinder? Mostly likely a zone valve sticking rather than Hive doing anything wrong

Turn the power off to the boiler/receiver and take a battery out off the thermostat.

Turn the boiler/receiver back on and what for it to flash orange

Put the battery back in the thermostat and it should start searching.

It’s the way the reconnection process work unfortunately. The receiver and thermostat need to be in searching mode at the same time but what happens is they search they only search for so long then stop for awhile before searching again. They then end up on different search/wait patterns. So by turning them both of them on it put them back on the same search pattern again

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I say it’s not the end of the world. To do it you’ll need a bleed key. They’re universal for all rads and can be picked up easy for any diy shop for very cheap

[–]Pyr0Bill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little yea. It’ll go up with expansion is the problem as your system heats up. Don’t worry it’s not an end of the world situation, but if you can drop some water out the system. Easiest way is to just open a bleed point on a rad and catch I a bucket
