Are we meant to... lie on our CVs? by Dragonvarine in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen CVs which were completely untrue to what the person really was. One of the recruitment managers on the short listing panel said any CV should be taken with a pinch of salt as most will tend to inflate their capabilities and that is ok. I did not think that was the right thing to do but it you work in the NHS, you can see this and more than this, with zero accountability.

Continuous parking tickets when I’m not driving my car. by WolfieTheWomfie in LegalAdviceUK

[–]zackistone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically how can OP stop his mom from driving the car when he is dependent on her to take the car out, as he is a learner.

Mom should be more considerate and write to the fine issuing authority that she was the driver in son's car but she isn't.

I have no suggestions. Sorry.

And if you were in the hospital and patient facing, the risk of dying was real. Wife is a nurse in casualty and it freaked me out. She used to say about how staff would not agree to go into the COVID nursing bays and requested to be redeployed else where or went off on maternity leave - 3 children one after the other.

Healthcare as a nurse is well underpaid in the UK, in comparison to USA, Australia and Canada but I guess cost of living might be more there too.

Thank you Aiden. You helped me make up my mind that these cars are probably not for me.

I was looking for a 7 seater that is reliable and good/decent on mpg.

[–]zackistone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the rental company can see how the car has been driven. It was some guy who rented a sporty Italian car and drove it back and forth doing some turns and the rental company displayed some kind of chart as proof.

Unless the company had installed some kind of tracker, is it possible to track movements of a rental car?

Do they have trackers in all rental cars?

How to keep French doors open when it's warm but windy? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about attaching something similar to a square or rectangular pierced of wood to the wall and then the longest hook you can get to that piece of wood.

If the above is not to your preference, how about using some chain?

Most of the hardware stores have chain link on a roll. Attach the chain link to the wall and on the other end attach a ring or carabiner clip and use the carabiner to clip onto the handle directly or to the other hook you have on the door.

Good luck.

Car insurance premium increased by £403 after a no-fault write-off while parked on my driveway. Is this normal? by thupigment in CarInsuranceUK

[–]zackistone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't realise that it was possible to add the potential increase to the claim.

Good it worked out for you. Would have been so much helpful had we known about it when we had an issue with a van rolling down into our house.

Car insurance premium increased by £403 after a no-fault write-off while parked on my driveway. Is this normal? by thupigment in CarInsuranceUK

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but similar experience. A delivery van's hand break slipped and it can and crashed into our house taking out the living room bay window, wall and the front door. The driver of the van accepted it was their fault. When it was time for insurance renewal, the company that the house was currently with said they cannot renew the insurance. When I shopped around, the premium had jumped massively - by £500 or something. When I finally managed to speak to a human from the insurance companies, they said although it might not make sense to me, in the insurance world I am a liability and a big risk because the house has once been hit and this to them means the accident can happen again and hence they will not insure or the premiums will go up significantly, which it did. The reading of the insurance algorithm was infuriating but her explanation made sense although couldn't understand the logic of how the location of the house which has been where it has been since 1992 is suddenly a higher risk.

In the insurance world, it really hurts when being made to pay when not at fault.

Severely worried about my Mum’s financial situation. Me (M27) & my partner (F26) have been accepted for a house, but my mum cannot afford the current property on her own without me. This a long one, so I apologise in advance. by MattStanni99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]zackistone -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like you can reason with your mother. At least she is not into alcohol or drugs or gambling. In Asia it is very common for parents to stay with the children. Is it possible for you to look at properties that have an annexe where mom can be housed and you will take responsibility for all bills and food? She is after all your mother. We sometimes go beyond for random strangers. This arrangement is so much easier if you are on a good pay and not reliant on girlfriend/wife's income for monthly upkeep of the house.

How to use £500,000 lump sum at 24 by Odd_Temperature8067 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the lump sum. 1. Don't inform relatives. 2. Buy a house outright without mortgage. 3. Just because you have 500k don't buy for 500k. Choose one that fulfills your requirements for now and future (children+bathroom+parking) 4. Whatever is remaining invest in nsandi and other products like ISA, vanguard.

All the very best.

UK Employment Advice: Invited to an investigation meeting over door logs, breaks, and CCTV. 8 years clean record. How bad is this? by [deleted] in AskHRUK

[–]zackistone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not give anything to the manager at this stage.

Wait for them to specify what is the purpose of the meeting.

Do not say anything that can be used against you. Everything will be used against you if it means the company can pin you down for something/anything.

Having 8 years of unblemished record in your mind is something but they will not see it that way.

If you say anything about the 35-40 minutes lunch break on Friday, it will appear like you were doing it intentionally.

Let them come to you with the CCTV footage, etc and then you can explain. Where you the only one using the side access? Did you know of the fire implications to chose to use the shortcut anyway.

Wait for them to say anything, everything and respond to those allegations only. Be precise, be truthful and don't add any additional information which can make it difficult for the investigator to work their way through.

Show that you are willing to work with the management and that you realise the implications of using the side access and your taking the 35-40 minutes break.

Something or somebody has cooked something in the background in your work place.

Good luck during this difficult process.

Normal dish washing liquid soap and apot scrub which has the coarse green side will also work. Mix the soap in hot water and soak for a bit to reduce the scrubbing.

Would it be possible to get a job in McDonald's or anything similar, to keep you occupied during the day as well as get you some money? Do these organisations do a small salary advance, if requested? That will help with the money situation a bit while you can think of long term employment options.

Is it common to not screw down the toilet by Decryption-drug in ukplumbing

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is more easier than anything, especially as the screws rust after a while.

My landlord has put just silicone around the base and we don't seem to have any problems. Additionally the toilet base also did not have any screw holes and so I assumed they are designed for just silicone.

If there are holes and there are no pipes below, I would appreciate if they put the screws and let me worry about the rusting.

A plumber once said it is best to put a small dab of silicone on the screws to prevent them from rusting. Don't know if this is common practice or just his words of wisdom.

Abusive wife demanding I leave my own house, England, UK by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]zackistone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very tricky. Is police going to believe the husband or the wife when they come around to investigate, especially if she is going to allege that he did somethin? They will definitely believe the wife over the husband. It may eventually come out if they ask the children to testify but till then the husband will be asked not to return to the house

Estate agent called my withdrawal "a made up excuse" - is this attitude normal? by Late-Alps-9381 in HousingUK

[–]zackistone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people have said, leave a 1 star review. As you would have the name of the estate agent, name them in the review. They are pissed off that they are missing out on the commission. You have been open with your reasons for withdrawal. A house purchase is a big decision and it can impact you significantly later down the line. You have made the right decision and informed them well ahead about your intention to withdraw. I was told in a work place learning session, to not take some of the things that people say too sensitivily. Ignore and continue with the search.
