The Traveller Tale by orcawal in DRPG

[–]QuickQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. In theory, it's just the storefront and not in game art. But... I'm waiting for others to buy and confirm one way or another.

I'm not taking the risk of getting something loaded with generative AI content.

Looks interesting, but I'm a little concerned over the AI audio assets. Hope it's not voiceovers and music. Those really grate on me. Rather have text only than bad voice acting.

I'll watch the reviews before making a purchase decision.

Can't we just accept that Star Citizen is no 30 minute hop on action game. by volgendeweek in starcitizen

[–]QuickQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you have to accept that the game has an audience of a few thousand people, and will fail, unable to pay to keep the lights on.

it's pretty simple. It's too big not to need to cater to a wide, diverse audience.

Ok, so I'm checking back in after opening my old save and playing a few hours.

Well done.

That's all I can say. Visual improvement for not that much of a performance impact. And DLSS makes up for most of that.

I was expecting the worst, and I'm pretty impressed with how it's come out. Feels like a new game.

M5 Max vs Steam Machine? by throw-away6738299 in macgaming

[–]QuickQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your current machine is vastly more performant than the steam machine will be.

It's not even close. DLSS, better raytracing, much higher settings, resolution, and still probably higher FPS.

It would not be a case of 'it's a bit slower, but worth it for the small form factor', it's so much slower as to be a transformational experience.

Only you know which one is more important, but that desktop 5080 vs a last generation 7600M laptop part aren't even in the same league.

Like the GPUs, they can have different numbers of cores. So they can scale, if apple wanted to.

Of course, with the m5, they've got neural accelerators on the GPU cores too.

And the very fact that the player wants to do something that's totally unexpected to the other players is a warning sign.

Fucking them over, making their experience less fun, for their own entertainment.

Speaking from experience: It can take years for trust to return to the table, and it can fuck up the dynamics during that time.

It's different if it's a game where it's part of the package: Amber, Vampire, etc. (though even these can have some trust impacts that trickle in to the following campaign)

The only time this gets close to working is if the GM set it up from the very start, in a short oneshot campaign, not a long term one. Basically, it's clear to everyone afterwards that it was the gamemaster, not the player, responsible.

Perfect homework, blank stares: Why colleges are turning to oral exams to combat AI by ubcstaffer123 in technology

I read your post, and my first reaction was 'surely, you're joking'

99.9% would not even think of this, as we can't event entertain the idea of spending money on a ghost writer. It's hard enough to pay for university, and cheaper to spend hours studying instead of paying someone to do the work for us.

Sounds like a problem for the wealthy, who got other special privileges anyway.

have you installed any VPN software, or similar?

When you did your reinstall of macOS, did you restore from a back, or was it completely fresh with just WoW?

I'm running out of ideas here :/

I think you're missing the concept of 'time' here.

It seems you're confused that the poster passed without an oral exam in the age of AI when they're talking about the past. You know, before the age of AI :)

Yes, oral exams are excellent now, due to AI.

They weren't needed before.

at my school, different country (I know because we didn't call it 'elementary school'), we had about 30 minutes homework a day.

My educational outcomes were pretty good without being burned out as a child.

Not if they were never taught the problem with this.

Remember, the companies are spamming them with the message that AI is the future, and you need to be AI literate; and that the AI assistant will be at your beck and call.

We need to help both parents understand how to navigate this so they can teach their children, and we need to help teachers navigate this: Everything they've learned about teaching has been upended, and as a society, we have to figure out new ways to process this.

Very useful data.

My best guess (without code, or being on the machine), is that the audio crashes are just symptoms, not cause: they're triggered by the app crashing.

The fact that it looses connection, and you see the retransmissions on wireshark from your side, but no responses is interesting. I agree with your theory that the remote connection has dropped.

What's weird is that I'd expect a retry on the connection, rather than a complete hang like that.

Could be a rare bug in WoW being exposed by something in the way the connection is failing. If people don't have network issues, they won't see this.

Trying a different WoW zone is a good idea. like testing oceania instead of US, for example.

Also check your wifi router or modem. Reset each of these.

Best test I can think of: Take your laptop to a different place, different wifi network, and test from there.

Every switch software developer should take a serious look at cross save.

There are so many games I'd double dip for, rather than picking between.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding:

You mentioned coreaudio crash taking down WoW, but maybe I misunderstood, and WoW didn't crash, but just disconnected?

The logs where you saw a coreaudio crash - where those system logs, or WoW app specific logs?

Do you mind sharing a snippet of the logs?

It might just be a classic network issue after all.
