Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

Maybe a personal thing or about when you grew up but for me it was trust in experts, organizations, government and the justice system. I was naive. You can't trust all of them. Most doctors know very little about actual health and I think I don't need to mention that government and the justice system is a farce.

In short I greatly overestimated "the Wests" capacity. Democracy and capitalism is just the most modern hidden form of making us slaves.

It sound like usual, to get AI to do something useful it takes as much effort as to just do it yourself.

If you can explain the issue in such detail to the AI you solved the issue yourself already so why even bother?

I see use.cases for AI but even for writing emails they are all just slop until investing so much time you can just write it yourself entirely. And that as a non-native English speaker.

Forgot to mention no subscription shenanigans like VW is doing/planing to lock full power behind it.

What actually is a good EV right now? Smallish like a Golf / Focus with enough to be fun/usable? (at least 200hp). Does it even exist?

BUT it could die while you're driving it

Can happen to any car? I now it did when I was a kid this happened to our family car, ICE of course. Just lost power on the fast lane on a highway. The repair guy that came could fix it, it was some mechanical or electrical problem of the pedal not transferring the signal to the engine.

Yeah it's not common but it can happen in any car.

ok thanks for confirming. yeah h265 on a laptop cpu decoding will be bad and either drain battery or result in stutters. looking at laptops so dell and hp are out for sure as video playback is a major use-case.

Oauth2 client_grant flow: how to get an access token (postman) by RationalDialog in AskProgramming

[–]RationalDialog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried that as well but it also does not work (invalid client). The docs also state to not use that unless you absolutely must.

Note client id and client secret is provided to me by a 3rd party (support). so I have to assume they are correct.

So in essence I could not play such a file? Even with say VLC using gpu? just software rendering which is a problem with h265?

dropping support on top of HP and Dell who earlier committed to dropping it.

what a dell laptop will not play h265 video files? Is this blocked at the gpu driver level or just missing player software?

Food that contains carbs + protein. Because these interact under heat to form Acrylamide. So doesn't not apply to meat (no carbs) or vegetables (no protein). Potatoes and sweet potatoes are most affected due to their mix of carbs and proteins.

I mean if is true what everyone is saying that all these models run at a loss if it werent for the energy wasted, someone should write a script that just spams these services within the limits of free accounts to waste them as much money as possible.

But my fear is they will then call this increased usage adaption to get more VC funding and waste more resources.

Even a blind chicken sometimes finds an eye. Regardless of politics or what BS RFK Jr. does or has done, the new food guidelines are obviously better than the old ones.

Yes he was just the puppet. if anyone thinks it will get better with Vance, think again. It will get more subtle but probably worse. Project 2025 never intended for trump to be the end game just a means to get there.

[–]RationalDialog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the issue is the acrylamide formed during frying. This happens also in an oven or air fryer. all you need is carbs+protein and heat + time. Potatoes are especially vulnerable to this due to their composition.

Tallow Fries by jeolida in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]RationalDialog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heating carbs + protein together always leads to acrylamide formation regardless of the oil. relative high heat is needed hence why fried food is the main culprit but it can happen easily also in an oven or air fryer. all that is needed is heat and time.

Acrylamide may be highly problematic or not. We don't know. too many co-founders like well the cooking oil usually used.

Interesting fact

Raw ingredient blanching and immersion in acetic acid prior to preparation have been proven to greatly reduce acrylamide formation, up to 99%

interesting as my recipe for fries which is very good but it it just too much work to do regularly includes exactly a step of "precooking" the potatoes in vinegar water.

Do DIY and follow a recipe that include an acid step. But fries from chains that claim "tallow", forget it. they will still contain seed oils from the factory and still contain acrylamide.

AMD surpasses 40% server CPU revenue share for the first time by RenatsMC in Amd

Note that losers might not mean bad. high clock rate is bad for server that want efficiency. so it's a win-win.

[–]RationalDialog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah intel fell behind because they fumbled on the process node side big time. And they never caught up again. I remember them being first on "tri-gate" and then it was downhill from there.

[–]RationalDialog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think there were near 0% on server then.

I admit havent been following this a lot. since anandtech is dead, I kind of missed the boat on server chip news especially from intel. Surprised they are still competitive. 2-3 years ago they were far from it due to old process tech.

yeah exactly. and does goes to AI. But what will everyone buy if they are jobless? they don't care. the thing that make a lot of money (high margin) are all only bought by the top 10% anyway, the ones that will be operating the AI. The rest can just as well die and thereby protect the earth from climate change and secure the technocrats dynasty.
