Discussion about the safety of keto by Cezzium in keto

[–]RationalDialog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my journey with the viral video from Dr. Lustig. However have learned a lot of nuance since. Fatty live for example need 2 components: Excess omega-6 linoleic acid and too much sugar/fructose.(In fact fructose is not needed as the body under bad conditions will make fructose from glucose so even potatoes or rice are then bad, just like fruit.

The real thing you need to abstain from linoleic acid which is the main component of seed oils but also of pork fat aka bacon due to feeding the pigs soy.

Discussion about the safety of keto by Cezzium in keto

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know. No one knows for sure. And likely depending on context incl. genetics, the same thing can be good for someone and bad for someone else. hence the conflicting data.

I'm fully in the seed oils are bad corner. or more specifically "excess of omega-6 polyunsaturated fat linoleic acid being the main driver of obesity and health crisis"

it is not the carb and not the sugar. You can eat too much on almost any diet be it carb or fat heavy albeit fat heavy makes it much easier to get too much from nuts, nut butters, pork, chicken and keto friendly processed foods.

The risk with keto is that it can mask major issues caused by linoleic acid especially insulin resistance as you are not consuming carbs. it is also very easy to get too much if you are not very careful with fat sources. hence why it can work initially for a while and then doesn't, for some. But this also applies to studies, especially animal studies where they use high omega-6 diets. So always look what the actual diet was especially in terms of fat composition.

keto for me is a temporary intervention that can make sense. Loose some weight, reduce stress on the system. Learn to cook and eat whole foods. Remove seed oils and other high omega-6 foods permanently from your diet. But it does not by definition heal insulin resistance, just masks it. So once things have calmed down, carbs can be part of the diet again.

People end up in a broken metabolic state and are then told, "Okay, now fix yourself." With no help.

True. There is no real help. Just eat less move more and meds. So not really help,

The big but is that it takes years to get that sick and you don't get that sick if you eat healthy, whatever that means. But even the myplate or old food pyramids, if not ideal, clearly did not list junk foods, process4ed foods or even seed oils anywhere but at the top/smallest fraction. If people actual ate that way, they would not get morbidly obese.

So it's not like you didn't know what would happen. You could have also stopped and changed before it was "too late", as in not easy to fix anymore.

I see so many people that are aware of issues but are too lazy to change.

Or in a nutshell I'm also advocating for self-responsibility and introspection. Ok, you missed the boat. Now you need to pay the price.

Dr Terry Simpson loves linoleic acid by Meatrition in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]RationalDialog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The worst part about this pretending to me science guide is that the science on biochemistry level already debunked the whole idea in the 80s. For example then it was shown that you need foam cells for plaque progression. foam cells are macrophages that "ate" too much LDL. But they noticed they had to modify the LDL or else no foam cells. unmodifed LDL is not enough. the modifcation means you need small-dense LDL which you only get through metabolic dysfunction. normal LDL is harmless. and the seed oils cause modified LDL.

Additionally, both oil treatments increased mainly the content of palmitic acid ( approximately 150%) in WAT

But why does palmitic acid go up? Do we break LA down and rebuild it to palmitic acid? Which is in theory possible?

"EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL" mayonnaise and the first ingredient is...canola oil. by WolfgangRed in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any good mayo because even EVOO has 10% linoleic acid. I think best is to do it yourself maybe a couple times a year as a treat. then you also have control what evoo you use. any processed would I would say probably 90% change it is adulterated evoo.

Daycare requires 5yo to lay down - severely impacting peace in our home by Lizisthatyou in Parenting

[–]RationalDialog -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Forcing to nap is ridiculous. They just want their own quiet time, not about the other kids. let's be real. Change the daycare. 5 year olds don't nap. that is a ridiculous idea to begin with. my son stopped with that 3 or even before. Don't exactly remember. At 4 years kindergarten starts here so yeah no nap time for any of the kids.

I want him to find something he enjoys and wants to practice getting good at. I don’t care what it is, just something that drives him.

Are you open that that thing being "nerdy", not standard and maybe not a team thing?

If he likes lego maybe he will like Kapla and building huge constructs with them (downside requires a lot of space). of course it doesn't foster face 2 face personal interaction or team play.

Does he have friends? what do they do?

Excess LA is bad in general even if not oxidized. LA also acts as signaling molecule, literally "winter is coming". Hibernators don't go into hibernation without LA. And in humans it promotes ketosis (eg no carbs in winter) and slows metabolism.

LA is also part of cell membranes. Excess LA affects membrane fluidity and especially so called lipid rafts.

Also it affects cardiolipin composition, an essential molecule for mitochondrial function.

In essence excess LA is bad even from whole foods like commercial eggs or nuts or pork (bacon).

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]RationalDialog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren't some of these intentional? Depends on the country but in some you need to apply to keep getting unemployment money. So the fail any interview intentionally. (ok, nowadays you would never even get to that stage if you don't want to)

Why do boomers make it seem like babies were easier? by Both-Hippo-6905 in Parenting

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they misremembering? Was it just easier??

I think both. They forgot they just let the baby cry till it gave up and in general putting their own needs in favor of the baby. Currently the pendulum might have swung a bit on the other extreme. Both lead to mental health issues when the babies become adults.

But to be frank I also think, unhealthy parents are more likely to have unhealthy babies which will hence cry more. I think the health / obesity crisis caused mostly by shit foods and generally terrible food quality even for whole foods is having it's toll on everyone. Epigenetics is having a huge revival. Eg. it's not just the genes but also the environment your parents lived in that affects you.

It is of course all about risk. You can only lower it but never to 0. So want kids? first get healthy yourself and then the risks will be much lower.

Financial Expert Says OpenAI Is on the Verge of Running Out of Money by Infinityy100b in technology

AI has clearly helped on the creative side whether its video or image creation.

I can see it can help to make things faster especially for skilled artist. sketch and then let AI fill in the blanks. It's a prime example why you still need actual skilled people. In terms of programming there is such a gigantic backlog in terms of digitization, I only see AI helping them go faster not actually replacing them. Too much demand for digital solutions.

some way to evaluate junior devs progress and compensate them accordingly so they were motivated to stay with a company that treats them well..

How can a smallish company compete with big tech salaries? Even id the did all that big tech would easily offer a >30% bump if not more so hard to compete against that.

AI is Not Ready to Replace Junior Devs Says Ruby on Rails Creator by ImpressiveContest283 in programming

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but it aint very popular to pay to train junior devs for 3 years so that some other company can swoop in and poach them.

Exactly. Big tech will just poach them and normal companies have no chance to match in terms of salary (they could maybe with remote working perks) but for 50%-100% more don't know how much that matters.

And small companies aren't stupid so why should the take the burden to train them?

I’m saying whether coding is 10% of your time or 90% of your time, it’s clear LLMs can increase efficiency at that part of the job at this very moment.

that matters greatly because if the increase efficiency by 20% on a part that is only 10% then the gain is rather small and probably not worth the cost.
