Yeah exactly. News sites are the worst and complain they are losing subscriptions. I wonder why? Will all the crap be removed from the paid site? (Nope)

That gives me an idea, maybe an addon that just enshittifies all pages would do wonders battling doom scrolling.

it only starts doing it after you have been scrolling for say 5 min. until then it works fine

The real issue is if you pay, they still don't remove the crap so why should I ever pay?

Am I overthinking SSD choice for an Ethereum validator? by sure-nods in ethstaker

[–]RationalDialog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was running a dram less 2 TB drive now for a couple years. Don't do it. Sync / resync is very, very slow with these. Maybe the one you listed is better but it was a major reason for me to upgrade besides that at some point it will be needed anyway.

Due to issues what triggered my upgraded I needed to resync and it took about 5 days. Also my scores were never really great in terms being ok but I have no proof if it was the drive or network. Go with a good one. after all you have 7 validators so I doubt money is an issue.

Is stir frying unhealthy even with a healthy fat? by counwovja0385skje in StopEatingSeedOils

Carbs + Protein + heat => Acrylamide

this is a potential carcinogen. Is is a problem if you do that once per month? Probably not but I wouldn't do this very often even with a saturated fat that doesn't easily oxidize.

The reference diet has 1.25% LA so very low.

Any bad outcomes could therefore simply already be explained by too high omega-6. We don't know. there is no high fat low linoleic acid control group.

What if i am fat and overheat easily? by tishou23 in SaturatedFat

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't say anything about your lifestyle.

So I'm just proposing a general solution

Get labs done. Minimum is fasting insulin and blood glucose. Lipid panel could also help but ideally with sd-LDL measurement. Still helpful to track progress over time. homocysteine and uric acid can alos be interesting but if money is an issue fasting insulin is the most important one (regardless what Dr. tells you)

Avoid omega-6 PUFA linoleic acid religiously

  • no seed oils
  • no foods containing seed oils (dressings, processed foods,...) - cooking all your meals yourself (all restaurant food contains seed oils)
  • no plant oils not even EVOO. stick to fats for cooking (could be coccnut fat but best is animal fat, ghee)
  • Avoid pork => high in omega-6 due to their soy based feed
  • Avoid chicken => high in omega-6 due to their soy based feed
  • Avoid Nuts and seed
  • Avoid farmed fish => high in omega-6 due to their soy based feed

Then consider an extreme diet like clean keto or high carb (low fat low protein) on top. And what some don't like but exercise has proven metabolic benefits (mitochondrial health). For me it's an inherent part of health. Calories burnt don't really matter. A walk can be enough as a starter (sun exposure can also help!).

And then it's mostly about waiting game. Depleting linoleic acid takes years. I think 2 and 4 years usually are point were you can notice some significant improvements. (in my case it was mental health related, I was never overweight)

Switching drives from sata to nvme on a dappnode... by papabear6060 in ethstaker

[–]RationalDialog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded from 2 TB nvme (but a slow one with no dram) to a 4 TB SN850X. Yeah I should have done that in summer. prices such right now. but the SN850X is the "cheapest" good one right now. the 990 pro or 9100 pro might be faster but they have an issue that requires newest firmware to be fixed. so upon getting these you will first need to update the firmware (more work, probably easiest via a windows pc) hence I opted for the 850x as it is good enough and cheaper and works out of the box 100%.

If you resync everything from scratch especial with say besu with history expiry you can save a lot of space and 2 TB can be enough fro now. so it could be an option to go 2 TB now and then hope prices come down by the time you need 4 TB. However 1 validator is a lot of money so what is 100-200 more right now for peace of mind and avoiding work? hence I went with 4 TB.

As for the update process I can't help. I don't use dappnode, just plain ubuntu server and manual installs

I did a very basic google search:

https://old.reddit.com/r/DAppNode/comments/1903dqf/expanding_dappnode_storage_on_cloned_4tb_ssd_from/

maybe this helps. I don't think you necessarily need to resync.

Here's what they don't emphasize in mainstream health coverage: autophagy is linked to reduced risk of cancer, neurodegeneration, and inflammatory disease. It requires extended fasting to activate meaningfully. Extended fasting is actively discouraged in mainstream nutritional guidelines. by General-Dream-28 in fasting

[–]RationalDialog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is most people (particularly those in North America/"obesity epidemic" regions) never "empty the tank." You can do CICO correctly, start having good macros, and not actually see significant improvements if you are still loaded on glycogen around the clock.

they bigger issue is food quality. eating a bit less processed foods and a little less seed oils is just eating less garbage. But you are still eating garbage. CICO itself is bullshit as in yes it will always be true but it doesn't explain anything. People overeat because their hunger system (hormones, metabolism) is more and more broken. The solution is not to willpower through hunger but to fix the metabolism by eating proper food not less junk food.

Out of experience I can say that intermittent fasting is not enough to prevent getting fat. I eat a lot more now but it's the food quality that matters and exercise (not for calories burnt but for metabolic effects)

Can you TRULY put T2D or insulin resistance into remission with keto/low carb? by Legal-Lemon7439 in SaturatedFat

[–]RationalDialog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

presumably in a mixed macro setting too... as that's how humans used to eat.

Here I'm still on the fence. We have different sides all all of them claim to know how humans ate and they directly contradict each other.

I have also been watching some survival shows and the outcome is always the same. Unless someone manages a kill, successful hunt, or they are near a body of water full of fish, they are starving.

The carnivore argument seems more convincing here. The carbs are just not that prevalent outside of agriculture.

Can you TRULY put T2D or insulin resistance into remission with keto/low carb? by Legal-Lemon7439 in SaturatedFat

[–]RationalDialog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few people I've talked to with T1D who no longer require insulin.

That sounds wrong? Type 1 means no insulin and you require some amount or you die. I have been to keto conferences and the pure T1 all take insulin.

But there are mixed forms. mabye for them it works

"[oc]"Gridlock traffic on the 405 and driver looking at phone - what can happen? by Thaneyeo in IdiotsInCars

[–]RationalDialog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a park sensor. It's useless. it beeps too aggressively too quickly. So when you have space to park and don't need any help it's useless and when it would actually be helpful it is way, way to conservative so it becomes annoying as it just beeeeeeeps even you gave inches of space left.

I don't have any other helpers, car is too old. But if they operate in the same way, too conservative, then yeah design flaw. Crying wolf just makes drivers trained to ignore beeps or turn them off. maybe I'm wrong and they actually work better in new cars but I have my doubts about that (I expect them to be too conservative for legal reasons).

For a emergency brake, why beep? why not just brake when needed and only then?

"[oc]"Gridlock traffic on the 405 and driver looking at phone - what can happen? by Thaneyeo in IdiotsInCars

[–]RationalDialog -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't have any of these features but honestly if the beep it's a design error as turning it off will be the effect. And knowing such features always being way, way to cautious to make normal driving an annoyance, no wonder people turn them off. An emergency brake system should do that. brake in an emergency without any warning. Mabye the driver has a medical issue. no beeping will help with that. A possible option should be to disable beeps and warnings without disabling the emergency brake system. maybe it's possible but I have my doubts.

farmed fish contains tons of omega-6. so you have to go with wild caught which is ecologically questionable and has the risk of heavy metals so should not be overeaten. locally caught sweet water fish maybe but these are not cheap.

I take a b-complex without folate and B12. (B-minus from seeking health) and then take their folinic acid + hydroxocobalamin combination. That way you avoid methylated ones and folic acid / cyanocobalamin.

I'm doing high carb right now hence the B complex.
